Derrick Burgess a no-show at Patriots camp

Derrick Burgess a no-show at Patriots camp

Quote
Patriots outside linebacker Derrick Burgess hasn't been seen at training camp, and no one seems to know why.

Tom E. Curran of CSNNE.com reports that Burgess has not been seen at the facility, and that Burgess hasn't returned calls or text messages from members of the media asking about his whereabouts.

It's not clear whether the Patriots know where Burgess is.

Coach Bill Belichick was quoted as saying that "All the players under contract are here," but that doesn't appear to be the case with Burgess, who signed a one-year deal with the team in May.

Derrick Burgess considering retirement

Quote
We now know why Derrick Burgess didn't show up to Patriots camp: He's not sure if he wants to play football anymore.

Len Pasquarelli of ESPN.com reports that Burgess told associates on Wednesday that he was leaning toward retirement.

However, Burgess hasn't made up his mind yet and might still decide he wants to play. As Tom E. Curran of CSNNE.com pointed out when he first broke the story of Burgess's absence, plenty of veterans are in the mood to retire in late July, only to decide to play after their teammates are done sweating through two-a-days.

But for now, the 31-year-old Burgess is thinking about calling it quits.

Let me rephrase.......

I'm not sure he wants to retire, just maybe get guarantees.

He'll soon discover, cashing a check is the way to go.
