Did he hurt at practice?
My 13 year old is an up and coming player here in Colorado. He's 6'3 210. High Schools are already on to him. My one worry every single time he steps on the field is Him hurting his knees. I'm almost wanting him to stick with baseball over football it worries me so much.
Yes. He was brought up to varsity as a freshman and Hurt it sophomore in practice. A lineman fell into the side of it. Missed 4 games, then played the last part of the season. As a Junior he was having a hell of a season until the 5th game game he was locked with a lineman with, his cleats stayed in one place, while his knee kept going. Missed the rest of the season. Dr said it was a "severely sprained ACL, with a sprained MCL. I asked him to do surgery, but he stated PT would solve the issue. Again we insisted he fix it before Senior year because a few colleges were looking at him, he refused too. Worked his ass off during the off-season and into the summer. Again at summer sessions a 275 pound lineman fell into the knee. Rehab and brace. Amazingly made it through senior year until the DIV 1 Championship game, 3 minute left and he injured it again. Dr once again said rehab and he should be ready to play ball in college. Running lifting and preparing himself all summer, it collapses while walking on campus registering for classes. I freaken knew it needed to be repaired. Md states torn Meniscus with "slight tear" of ACL. Well, he was wrong, now Freshman year is a wash, no ball.
He has been playing Football since he was Nine. He loves it. Played baseball from six years and quit when he was a freshman and joined track team to get faster for football. (He was a great BB player. Had a cousin in Dodgers Minor league, and one in Angels minor some years ago, plus my great grandfather played for Boston Braves, so its pedigree.) I really wished he stuck with ball. He was such a pure talent. Hit for average and was an RBI machine. We loved watching him play football and would not trade it for anything, but injuries ARE ALWAYS in the back of your mind constantly. The pain associated with a total ACL replacement is enormous. That "neck injury" fear is always in the back of our minds. He is a very strong and physical player who plays at a thousand miles an hour, and it does worry you as a parent. My advice for your son, stay with BB.
Here is his Senior highlight videos. He is pinedo #35. White is away color, red is home. Weak side Linebacker. Taking on fullbacks, coverage, reading plays etc. 3-4 Defense
