Wait let me get this: So, a rookie coming off an injury, who has only had a couple of snaps in one preseason game, did not impress in his first NFL game and so, people are already dismissing him while dreaming of other players the Raiders could have had?

Call me silly, but I will have a tad more patience before I begin to fantasize about who the Raiders should or could have chosen with their pick in the first.

One NFL game seems a to be a very small sample size to begin actually judging players' potential. I guess when I judge a pick in a draft, I look at what that player contributes over the span of a few years rather than what they accomplish in their first game. But whatever... Most everyone realizes it wasn't great but are willing to give the benefit of the doubt outside of one poster.

The same one who:
- Got caught lying about RB stats and pretended it never happened.
- claiming "I KNEW Mack was going to be a superstar."
- Claimed that Deandre is a better back than JJ.

These are amongst other choice takes.

Remember that the main Tyree doomsayer on this board also spent years saying DeAndre Washington was a better running back than Josh Jacobs. :rofl: :rofl: :rofl: Indeed.

That said there is no guarantee Wilson pans out but declaring a bust one week in his his modus as it were.

If Wilson pans out he’ll “ conveniently forget” he ever said it or outright lie when caught lying. Case in point when Chucker caught him lying about RB stats.

As far as Wilson? So far doesn’t look good but coming off foot surgery and missing practice I’m willing to give Wilson the benefit of the doubt.

I’m about 75 miles to the east of Buffalo and 2.5 miles from the shore of Lake Ontario, weather here is roughly the same and will report on Sunday morning.

There are still plenty of people who are fans of players first, Raiders second.

There was one play in particular in the 2nd half where he was on the right side rushes in about 2 steps then pretty much stopped, tied up with the blocker and was just looking at the play. Granted the run was away from him but it struck me as odd to just stop playing basically.

He’s raw, rusty and coming off a injury, so there is going to be some issues. Add learning curve of the NFL.

Just have to see what each week brings.

A win on Week 1. That’s all kinds of good.

1. Starting off the 2023 observations I’ll go with Jimmy G. It feels more like having a more confident and complete QB under center. Two TDs, but that one INT was especially ill advised. It was a really late throw and the field on the left he was running out of space. Got to come away with points there, but in general aside from that, good decision making and better play than previous QB in the RZ.

What I really liked was he was in command of the Offense and knew where to go. He also hung in there and took the hits while delivering. I think it shows he’s comfortable in this Offense and his teammates knowing that if he gives a play just a bit more time it will be there. In a way it was like what we saw with Stidham vs SF last year. Some QBs can run this Offense, some can’t.

And of course the run to win the game? No way our previous QB makes that play.

2. Stop me if you have heard this one: penalties. This time around some of the more backbreaking, stupid ones at the “right” time. The roughing the punter penalty by Masterson is a perfect example of decades of dumb penalties. Maybe one of these decades we’ll correct them.

3. Defense. Now I’m off the mindset that it’s going to take several years/drafts to straighten out and have said as much, but it was so mixed. They played well on a few places like late in the 4th holding Denver to the field goal, but other times getting gashed for a lot of yards. In years past it looked like they had no idea what to do. This time they were just getting beat.

They have a lot of work to do but this team is built to win via Offense. If I had to some up such a mixed bag.

3. This one might sound strange, Coaching. IMO McDaniels was out coached by Payton for most of the game. I’m not the biggest fan of McDaniels but the 3rd quarter was flat, no points? Perhaps Payton had better adjustments. But the counter point could be McDaniels had better answers at the end.

4. Meyers- hat off to him, there was some things up in the air for some folks here when he was signed, but looks to be a good compliment to Adams. Then to get hit like that? Should have been an ejection. Like Jimmy G his comfort in the EP Offense shows.

5. Renfrow, Mayer and Wilson were MIA this game. Wilson especially the times I caught my attention he looked lost. In the case of Renfrow or Meyer I don’t think either Jimmy G or McDaniels has faith in them at this point. Renfrow was mostly invisible.

6. The O line. They weren’t really mentioned too much nor were they flagged really. But Miller getting blown up late was not good. They held up well in pass blocking but did not have much in the way of run blocking. What Jacobs got was largely due to him.

No rust from Jacobs IMO, what I think was going on is Denver’s D is improved.

All that said I do like the configuration and looks to be a good mix. Of course room for improvement.

Overall I’m glad we won a hard fought game especially when it very much seemed like we might lose. 7th win a row vs Denver and in 1st place of the AFC West even for one week is something we should all be in agreement is a good thing.

All that said there was good and bad in this win, but I’m a bit more hopeful after Week 1 than I have been in a while. That simply means enjoy the week and look forward to a tough game in Buffalo.

I imagine the coaching staff will have a lot to work on hope the players realize it to, anyways 1-0 and on to Buffalo.

Yep. Not the coach or the scheme I want but what we have to work with right now. At least he jettisoned our previous QB so there is that.

McDaniels just demonstrated what he can do when he gets his guy from the beginning of that career.....I know it is an extremely small sample size but those three games were pretty good. As an OC he’s decent, of course helped that he had Brady. I’m still reserving judgement on his HC stint here.

But going back to his Denver days I’ve never been that much of a fan of his.

We are spending the 3rd most on offense this upcoming season. We should expect BIG THINGS especially considering our coach is an offensive minded coach. I am not a fan of JG, but I will be open minded. In somewhat the same boat, JG isn’t my choice for QB and not really a fan of Little Hoodie and his offensive scheme. We’ll have to see what happens.

Wilson definitely looks the part. No doubt about it. He need only develop some technique and he will be a force in this league.

It will be interesting to see what he can manage to do in his rookie season without a full offseason to prepare coming off an injury that cut is college season short.

Something tells me at the end of the season, only a ridiculous contrarian will not be very excited about his future. Good thing there aren’t any big those around these parts.
