I want to say is was all part of Al's war with Rozelle that unraveled the trade for Howie , and Rozelle's pressure on the Bears (?) to nix the deal

Andy makes this pick: "God, the Chiefs always seem to find the playmakers with good hands that kills us with speed. They just keep doubling down. Why can't we ever find one?"

Ziegler makes the pick: "WTF, we didn't need this guy at all, we wasted our pick."

It seems odd to me that people are reacting to this as though he is the QB of the future, simply because he was the first QB that this regime selected.

Once the first 3 QBs were gone, that ship clearly sailed for Zieg and McD. He was drafted to be a backup, learn the system, and fill in if/when needed.

Now it's solely a matter of fit, which O'Connell seemed to have in spades.

Aiden's scouting reports read as the exact type that McD likes:
- makes quick decisions
- gets ball out quick
- executes the system
- accurate in short and medium range

Those read exactly like the attributes that Brady, Jimmy, and Mac Jones had. And we're surprised?

Now some have argued that this is the "old way," and modern QBs need to be able to be creative once the system breaks down - and that's fair.

But McD's system is about making the decision and the throw before the system collapses, which is simply an alternative solution, not a wrong solution.

Calm down, he's just a backup.

My biggest issue with O'Connell, to be frank, is that I'll never be able to see him without thinking of Rod Farva.

But your explanation is a bunch a double-talk.

If you play poker with 4 others, then you have the same odds to win every hand = 1 out of 5 or 20%. It never changes. But the pots are not equal, so you can win a small pot with 4 As and lose a big pot with a J high full house. This confuses some people into believing that poker is a form of investing your money. It is not. It is gambling and over a long period of time random chance says you will lose more than you win.

PS - here's another great double-talk that confuses people: advertisers claim that if you spend money, then you can save money at the same time. Well, what do we have here. During the college season I peaked over here and I saw a crap load of Will Levis D riding. So much so that I was compelled to join up. I address him and the other QBs in Al's War Room and a few people clapped back at me, defending Levis. My criticism were his lack of upside at nearly 24 years old, his poor pocket presence and how he acts like he is God's gift to football. I also pointed out how he was a favorite of the draft media, which can skew a casual fan's perspective. I'm not just well studied, I have a BS meter that reaches the heavens. Remember who first told you what you are about to read. :fingerdown:

This buys a bit of flexibility drafting so we don't feel forced to take one too quickly and passing other talent at areas of need and a bridge to a youngin when we do grab one to give them breathing room to develop. Seems to be a theme with Zieg at the moment, getting serviceable players in - not necessarily flashy - so that he doesn't have to panic, overdraft because of need, or cash in more trade chips than he feels necessary.

Its probably part of the big picture plan for the new regime.
The 2 longest tenure HCs over the past 10 years were JDR and Gruden and both had teams that made the playoffs. To bad they didn't last long enough to see if they could have improved those teams.
The pats won alot of games because they keep their HC in place resulting in their players really knowing what they're doing.

Replacing Meyers with Waller and a 3rd is a fair exchange, considering the Raiders still need a tight end and a good tight end is harder to replace than a good receiver.

But using the money to get a good defender would have been my personal preference, since our defense is so bare and lacking in talent.

I still think this offense has the ability to be top 10 or better with Garoppolo as long as he is healthy for the whole season.

The defense is definitely going to struggle, but if they play hard, tackle well and play smart by not commit stupid penalties, it's all you can ask for really.

Comparing Carr to Garoppolo this year is going to be interesting to say the least. What I'm saying is that the money that was earmarked for Waller is effectively the money that went to Meyers, a potentially better fit in the scheme and culture, plus we got a 3rd out of it.

Meyer's money does not preclude us from finding a defensive replacement any more than Waller + no Meyers did.

Waller is no longer a Raider. I thought it was a good trade (what the fuck do I know) but it does not matter. Its a done deal. I really do not care what he (or the self centered vulva do). It is spilled milk. Unfortunately, depending on what they do, we are going to have to hear the pro or anti folks next season. Yes, but will they be drowned out by the pro/anti Jimmy G and pro/anti getting rid of Carr discussions?
