Note this isn’t about our current QBs, this is about the franchise as a whole as it’s relates to QBs.

Simply put, the Raiders have never gotten the fact that in order to win a Super Bowl you need an elite QB or at minimum one in the Top 10. This has been true since the Old Man was the GM to his son. With the Old Man when he did draft a QB he was looking for his strong armed QB to run an increasingly antiquated offensive scheme most of whom failed. Seriously look at who we have drafted at QB over the decades it’s pathetic.

Then when he did land one who was good it still wasn’t his guy. The meh two seasons after our first SB win? Al: “Blame Stabler.”

Plunkett winning two SBs? Still had to deal with Marc Wilson. :sick:

Point being that despite past success and then the league changing we didn’t and still won’t at the most important position and then when we do?

- The disastrous first round pick of Russell.
- 10 years of middling at best with Carr.

In a way this mirrors the 80 something years of futility of the Red Sox in their quest for a World Series, expect we’re only half way there (queue Bon Jovi.)

How so? Consider:
- The Red Sox were a slow, lumbering team with big sluggers for decades.
- The Red Sox often had big lumbering hitters but man they sure could hit it over the Green Monster!
- The Red Sox never had exceptional pitching (leads to the next point.)
- The Red Sox despite having some great pitchers like Clemens never got that in order to play at Fenway you need a rotation of exceptional pitchers

This is all summarized quite well in the HBO special “Reverse the Curse.”

Once they corrected these, look what happened.

The parallels to the Raiders are staggering. Our biggest issues isn’t divisional rivals, the league, etc.

The Raiders are their own worst enemy.

The stubborn and baffling refusal to address the QB position has harmed us for decades and most recently with the mind boggling/stupidity of sticking with Carr for years when it was clear he wasn’t the guy.

If a QB is not part of the solution they are part of the problem.

And how does this tie into the current state? Again, forget the current QBs for a moment, they are just the symptom, not the cause. It also speaks to the stupidity of acquiring Adams (and Moss before).

It’s very much a case of putting the pieces in place ahead of time. Sure that can work but it hasn’t for us. In like decades.

TLDR? Our refusal (and limited failures) to address the need for a franchise QB has crippled the franchise, not just now but for decades prior.

Discuss.

ETA: I did start a “it all starts in the trenches” a while back. That is still true but QB certainly supersedes even that.

AP is in way over his head. Way over. He just stands there with his mic up by his ear. Doesn't appear to have anything to say in the game. 0-5 on 4th down. Terrible clock management and on and on.

Minshew drops his head and body when the pocket gets small, looks to run but can't.
All off season I've read how his scrambling will bring a new dimension to the offense but after 3 weeks I haven't seen it.

To be honest I wanted OC12 and would much prefer him stand tall in the pocket, deliver the ball and get hit but they paid some medium big bucks for Minny so he's the guy... I am not understanding what has happened to Minshew. In college he was always extending possessions with his feet. I didn't watch him play much when he was with Philly and Jax but he showed that resourcefulness against us last season with Indy.

He is comfortable in a spread offense. Kingsbury would have been a great hire considering both played under Leach.

This much is for certain. He isn't comfortable out there for whatever reason.

Giving Koonce an extension this off-season beyond a prove it 1 year deal again would be unwise. He's only had an 8 game sample size when it comes down to it, as good as he was.
