Re: Josh Jacobs

I watched a replay of the Raiders vs Seahawks last week on the NFL network & Jacobs puts forth as much effort as Maxx on D...that's all I have to say...pay the man & make him Happy!!! Unfortunately it doesn’t make sense for us going forward. RB is just a devalued position in comparison to others. They are just too easily replaced compared to other positions.

Re: Tyree Wilson

The great thing about the defensive line is you do not have to start to make an impact. They will play him at multiple positions so his snap count will still be pretty high.

i am not sure that is the flip side. RBs are notorious for breaking down really fast, so the long term deals are not as frequent in a passing league.

Re: Josh Jacobs

On what planet does playing a bad season get you a bigger contract? I'm not getting the logic here. The last think he wants is an injury marred bad season going for his last big FA contract. it would be his worst scenario. He has been dinged up a number of times and an injury marred season would drive down his value since that reputation follows you.

Re: Tyree Wilson

DL is not entirely like the OL, in that players rotate more often on defense. Jones is getting up there and if you want the most out of him, game in and game out, you do not play him snap after snap. Even a bull like Crosby does not play every down.

I think there will be a healthy rotation of Jones, Wilson and even Crosby. And I do see Wilson moving inside on obvious passing downs. To worry about Wilson getting enough playing time I think is a waste of energy. It is the last thing we need to worry about.

Re: Josh Jacobs

No they'll understand whats going on (no contract) and he really doesn't have a nagging pulled hamstring. "I half-assed it last season because I didn't like my contract (which *only* paid me an average of the five highest-paid players at my position), but I probably won't half-ass it for you this season. Honest! Now pay up." may not be the selling point you think it is.

Re: Josh Jacobs

My bet?
We get the injured half the year and unmotivated Jacobs because i don't think for a minute hes going all out to the tune of 350 carries without his money. Except that Jacobs knows (or should know) that other teams are also looking to see how he'll play this year. If we get the "injured half the year and unmotivated Jacobs," other teams will rightfully assume that 2022 was an aberration and 2023 a return to his good-but-not-worth-top-money form.

If he wants a big bucks long-term deal, he needs to ball out while playing on the tag this year.

Re: Josh Jacobs

At the same time - the nature of the position is a short lifespan and it’s not a gradual decline. It’s pro bowl one year - ineffective the next. A lot of that, IMHO is because running backs now pass-protect so much. It means that on almost EVERY PLAY, you're getting hit: you're either being tackled at the end of a run or you're in pass pro and being run into by a DE or OLB who outweighs you by 30-50 pounds but has straight-line speed nearly equal to yours. The only time you're not getting hit is if you run out of bounds or if you go into the flat to catch a pass and the QB throws it elsewhere.

The abuse to your body adds up in a hurry.

"... the Raiders seem likely to sign veteran cornerback Marcus Peters before training camp. Peters came in for a visit last month and, according to league and team sources, the two sides have stayed in touch as Peters tests the market. The Raiders have other veteran cornerbacks on their list, but Peters could very likely sign with the team that he grew up rooting for as a kid in Oakland."

no, he is just not feeding the media heads. The theme was we are working hard and trying to plug the guys into the system. Other than that, he was not going to be pushed into justifying last season.

Jacobs is protecting Jacobs at this point. Push comes to shove, he will sign to play on the tag. but he will wait until closer to camp. Smart move so that you reduce the injury chances.

Re: Hunter Renfrow - do you think he gets traded or cut?

I'm thinking that the Renfrow freelancing is overblown a bit. Sure, when the play breaks down, a guy can riff his way open, but if you're doing it regularly before that point the coaches and the QB are all going to be pissed off.

Re: 5 Teams That Took a Step Back

I just thought I would add, if Jimmy is healthy game 1 that is all we need from him.

He joined San Francisco on a (from memory) 1-9 team and they went the rest of the season with 5 wins and 1 loss. He should have zero problems running this offense with or without training camp.

As to being a lesser team this year, no, I don't believe it for a minute. We are two quality linebackers away from a playoff team in my opinion.

If (Big If) we get three solid starters from the draft, I feel fairly good about the direction of this team.

Re: 5 Teams That Took a Step Back

I think if you use the win/loss standard it will be misleading. I actually think we have a shot at a better total. Maybe a game or two. But the lack of a long term starter at QB coupled with a bunch of bandaids on defense does suggest we did little to solidify the team overall as a viable option each and every year going forward. That is, without a doubt, if we missed on our top draft picks which has plagued this team far too long. If we did better in that area, perhaps we will make strides. But the plug and play players we got in the off season were underwhelming to be sure.

Re: 5 Teams That Took a Step Back

The Raiders reached a total of 6 wins last season so to make the argument that they have stepped back implies they will not be able to meet that threshold this season.

This team remains a bit of a mystery to me. I see all of the new names added but will have to wait to see how it all unfolds during the rest of the offseason and preseason. Right now, I would not be surprised if the team are cellar dwellers or if they are competing for a playoff birth come December. I see both scenarios being a possibility depending upon how all of the new faces come and perform together.

I know the fact that Jimmy is recovering from injury right now can impact our take on the entire team. But that fact may have nothing to do with how this team is performing in September and throughout the season, but then again, it might be foreshadowing things to come. We don't know.

Plus, it is difficult to say how the many....MANY new players acquired through free agency and the draft will perform. We might have some inclinations here and there, but for the most part, it is really a lot of guess work with a large margin for error.

My take: no one really has a good handle as to exactly what the Raiders in 2023 will look like right now, so my suggestion, I would take any articles written about teams right now with a grain of salt.

One last note, I have said this before but it is applicable here: if you think early power rankings (and in essence this is one that focuses on the weak end of the spectrum) this time of year are accurate, take a look at those same power rankings made in May or June of last year and see how accurate they are.

You want a laugh. Here is power rankings made in May of last year. Look at it and compare it with what teams actually achieved in 2022.

https://www.si.com/fannation/college/cfb-hq/ncaa-football-rankings/nfl-power-rankings-2022-season-post-draft#gid=ci02a029fc40002718&pid=28-carolina-panthers

We can sit here and pretend we have some special sort of information and prowess, but outside of a handful of teams....predicting a team's ability to win at this time a year is a fool's game.

Re: Davante Adams Doesn't See Eye to Eye With Raiders On the Offense

DA is the Alpha. He carries a lot of street cred. Players listen when he speaks. If he questions the direction of the team, there is no way they will keep him around. Depends on how he does the questioning. If he questions in public, on Twitter, in interviews, and loudly in the locker room, then yeah, any player doing that would have to go. That's passive/aggressive asking for a trade.

If he speaks in private with the coaches, has good reasoning, brings different ideas/perspectives based on experience to the table, then he has their ear. Lots of quotes have been taken out of context to make the relationship seem acrimonious when it isn't.

Re: Davante Adams Doesn't See Eye to Eye With Raiders On the Offense

Very well said, and I agree. However, while building a defense and seeking that true franchise QB, I would have rather given Stidham a 2 year $10 million deal and told him that you're the guy in 2023. Build the rest of the roster and if Stidham isn't that guy, draft that guy in 2024 with the roster that you've built. I wanted to keep Stidham because he has potential to have more upside being younger and more athletic than jimmy G and would have been cheaper as well, so we are on the same page.

Re: Davante Adams Doesn't See Eye to Eye With Raiders On the Offense

Only thing I got to say about this situation is what exactly is the problem? If Adams still wants Carr as his QB he's fucking trippin!

The Raiders didn't have a high enough pick to draft one of the top QB's in the draft and would have had to trade a high pick to move up. And that would mean that the Raiders would lose top picks for the consecutive year because they traded their 1st and 2nd round pick the year before for his ass.

The offense imo looks very solid apart from the QB situation. Jimmy G was the top QB available in free agency, apart from Rodgers but again you would have to trade picks to get him.

I wanted Rodgers and didn't want Jimmy but I understand if they are going to want to build from the ground up, a stop gap QB would be better for the rebuild.

They tried to build on the 2021 playoff team but it didn't work because the 3 players that got paid(Carr, Waller, Renfrow), couldn't stay healthy or completely plaid like shit.

All this offense talk isn't working for me because I want the Raiders to build a defense, while they seek a true franchise QB that can compete with Mahomes, Allen and Burrow. Until then this team ain't getting close to the Lombardi and that's all that matters.

Only thing I can think that would make sense is the Adams was all-pro last season again and what he's getting paid this season is a steal for his talent. But you also have to include what the Raiders gave up last year with their 2 top picks to even get him.

Adams just needs to worry about his craft and ride this out because he agreed to the trade and contract and he also has a fan base that will ride and die for their great players and he will be appreciated even after he's gone.

Either way I don't think Adams will bust a Antonio Brown or Randy Moss, because his head is very professional and I don't think he will let his emotions affect his play on the field....

I know it's not going to happen. But I really wish we could all move on whether you liked Carr or didn't. The fact is he's gone and bringing him up constantly by both sides is old. There's a reason I haven't come around much. I get tired of hearing about it from both sides.

Re: Hopkins released by the Cards

Are you saying Young is immature, addicted to Call of Duty, and doesn’t like to study play books? I just don’t see a comparison here. Height is the least of Murray’s issues. Exactly. If anything he has proven his height isn't that big a deal. The fact he is lazy and doesn't study his craft and overall didn't put in the work to get better is his issue. I have not heard of anything but the opposite about Young.
