Re: DOCUMENTARIES

Lowell George was tremendously talented and his passing was indeed tragic. Once Fuller joined on as lead the band went in a bit of different direction and the band enjoyed their most success.

Their music never gets old.

As far as Ken Burns....he has never made a doc I have not enjoyed. And like you I grew up watching the Vietnam war on TV with Walter Cronkite every single night. Whenever I'm surfing and I come across anything Nam related I end up watching.

And Jeevo....... those were classic fights with Ali, Frazier, Forman, and all the other heavy weights. Those were super events that caught the imagination of the entire world.

So glad I lived through the golden era of sports.

Awesome stuff guys. Big props to you.

Re: Maurice Hurst and Arden Key Cut

No.

In small town America, stores put the stuff on racks and let customers "browse" them before buying. I lived in a small town where I was allowed to read as many of them as I wanted, as long as I spent money in the store for something. You could even grab the adult mags before they passed laws to move them behind the counter.

Re: Maurice Hurst and Arden Key Cut

PFW was on the rack readable for free for decades. That's why it kept going bankrupt. You could read it for free.

Towards the end the local store started putting it out inside a clear plastic bag sealed shut to prevent it, and many others, from being read for free.

It was the end of the paper information age . I miss it, but only because I read the PFWs for free. Aside from the color pics, the information was generic and not overly accurate. Pretty similar to the free "articles" on the internet.

I knew that I was smart because I could read the whole PFW in about 10 minutes. I hear ya. That was the time I was into betting with our book. Information was scarce back then. You had to "buy" information. Remember the "Best Bets" section? It didn't take long to figure out that if you would bet opposite their selections....you would win about 74% of the time

As one Archie Bunker would say.......

Those were the days.

Re: Which WRs deserve the Hall more than Edelman? Guess who is #1?

Does the Hall of Fame Nominate individuals?

The Hall of Fame receives nominations but does not make them. Any person, including the 48 elite members of the Selection Committee, may nominate any eligible players, coaches or contributors.

What Happens After Someone is Nominated as a Modern-Era Nominee?

A nomination is NOT a vote for election. The Hall of Fame’s Selection Process includes multiple steps in which the nominees are scrutinized. The Hall facilitates the procedure of three successive reviews of increasing scrutiny with the 48-person Selection Committee. The first is a vote to reduce the long list of Modern-Era Nominees (typically around 100) to 25 Semifinalists, followed by a later vote to reduce to 15 Finalists. At the annual meeting on “Selection Saturday," the Finalists are scrutinized even further by the Selectors, who after a thorough discussion of each Finalist, reduce the list from 15 to 10 and then 10 to 5. At that point, the five remaining Finalists are voted on for election into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on a yes or no basis. A minimum positive vote of 80 percent is necessary for election.

Who Selects New Hall of Fame Members?

The Pro Football Hall of Fame's 48-person Selection Committee is charged with the vital task of continuing to ensure that new enshrinees are the finest the game has produced. [Pro Football Hall of Fame's Selection Process/List of Selection Committee members]

The Committee consists of one media representative from each pro football city — with two from New York and two from Los Angeles, as those cities each have two teams in the National Football League. There are 16 at-large Selectors, who are active members of the media or persons intricately involved in professional football, including one representative of the Pro Football Writers of America. All appointments are open-ended and approved annually by a majority vote of the Hall of Fame's Board of Trustees.

The Selection Committee meets annually on the Saturday before the Super Bowl to elect new members of the Hall of Fame. There is no set number of new enshrinees, but the Committee’s current ground rules do stipulate that between four and eight new members will be selected each year. Every candidate is thoroughly reviewed and must receive approval from at least 80 percent of the full Committee to be elected.

How Are New Enshrinees Selected?

Any fan may nominate any player, coach or contributor who has been connected with pro football simply by writing to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The only restriction is that a player and coach must have been retired at least five years before he can be considered. There is no mandatory retirement period for a contributor before he may be considered. Every nomination of an eligible candidate received will be processed and forwarded to the Hall of Fame’s Selection Committee.

Each year, the Selection Committee will be polled three times before the Final List of Modern-Era Preliminary Nominees is determined. The Initial Preliminary List of nominations is compiled and sent to the Hall of Fame’s Selection Committee by March 1. The list is provided so that the Selectors can study the nominees and then request the addition of any other candidates that may have been overlooked. Included on this list are first-time eligible candidates who have strong enough credentials to give them even a remote chance of eventual Hall of Fame election. Also included are all other eligible candidates nominated by any person. Additionally, those Modern-Era nominees from the previous year’s final preliminary list who received at least four votes in the balloting to determine the Modern-Era Finalists are automatically included on this preliminary list.

The Second Preliminary List is sent to the Selectors during the month of July and includes all the nominees named on the initial list plus any additional nominations received from any source since the first list was compiled.

The Third Preliminary List of eligible candidates is sent to the Selection Committee during the month of September for the purpose of the selection of the Modern-Era Semifinalists for election. From the Third Preliminary List the Selection Committee is asked to vote for 25 Modern-Era Nominees who become Semifinalists for election.

The Final Preliminary List of 25 Modern-Era nominees plus all ties (if any) for the twenty fifth position shall be distributed to the Selection Committee during the month of November for the purpose of the selection of 15 Modern-Era Nominees. The 16th, 17th, and 18th finalists are the recommended candidates of the Coach, Contributor and Senior Committees.

In advance of the Hall of Fame Selection Meeting in February, the Selectors are provided detailed biographies on each of the 18 Finalists. At the annual meeting on "Selection Saturday," each finalist is thoroughly discussed by the committee before a series of reduction votes are taken. First, the Coach, Contributor and Senior Finalists are discussed and voted on for election. They must receive the same 80 percent affirmative vote as the Modern-Era Finalists. Next, there is a vote that reduces the Modern-Era Finalists list from 15 to 10. Following that, a vote is taken to reduce the list from 10 to 5 names. The five remaining Modern-Era Finalists for Hall of Fame election are then voted on individually (yes or no) for membership.

In order to be elected, a Finalist must receive a minimum of 80 percent of the vote. All ballots are collected and counted by an accounting firm. No vote totals are announced – only the winners of the various reduction ballots are revealed to the Selectors and the Hall’s representatives.

How are Coach, Contributor and Senior Candidates Chosen?

To assure that older players, whose active careers have been completed at least 25 years, as well as coaches, who have not coached in at least five years, and those individuals who contributed to the game in ways other than playing and coaching, will be considered along with the Modern-Era candidates, a Coach/Senior Committee and a Contributor Committee, have been established. Each of these committees are made up of nine veteran members of the overall Selection Committee.

Like the full Committee, the members of the Coach/Seniors Committee and the Contributor Committee are provided a preliminary list of eligible nominees. The list, which is compiled and mailed to the Selectors, includes carry-over nominations from the previous year, first-time eligible candidates, and nominations from any outside source.

By way of a mail ballot, the Coach/Senior Committee members are polled once before the final lists of nominees are determined. The Contributor Committee follows the same protocol to reduce the list of nominees. Five members of the nine-man Coach/Senior Committee, selected on a rotating basis, are designated to attend the annual Coach/Senior Committee meeting held in Canton, where they are charged with the responsibility of nominating Finalists from those lists to be among the 18 finalists for Hall of Fame election. The same procedure is followed by the Contributor Committee who also meet annually in Canton.

In advance of both meetings, each Selector is provided with detailed biographical information on the candidates.

Coach/Senior Committee members are assisted during their annual meeting by two consultants, chosen by the Hall’s President, who were contemporaries of the majority of the nominees. The consultants offer only their opinions and are not entitled to vote. After each candidate is discussed thoroughly, the consultants are excused from the meeting. Additional discussion is conducted followed by a series of reduction votes that results in the naming of a Coach Finalist and Senior Finalist.

Contributor Committee members are also assisted during their annual meeting by two consultants and follow the same guidelines as described above for the Coach/Senior Committee consultants.

Although the Coach, Contributor and Senior Nominees will be presented to the full Selection Committee as Finalists, their election to the Hall of Fame is not automatic. The Coach, Contributor and Senior Nominees must receive the same minimum 80 percent of the vote as a Modern-Era Finalists to be elected.

Is a New Hall of Fame Member Enshrined as a Member of a Team?

Obviously, teams take great pride in the accomplishments of individuals who have been a part of their organization. Often, individual teams and even the Hall of Fame will list enshrinees according to the team or teams on which they spent a significant period of time. An enshrinee, however, is not asked to “declare,” nor does the Hall of Fame “choose” a team under which a new member is enshrined. When elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, an individual is recognized for accomplishments as a player, coach, or contributor.

Re: Raiders select at #17 in 2021 Draft

My mom died of lung cancer, my brother shot him self in the head, my best friend was shot in the throat right next to me in Iraq and died. Those are just for starters.
If I wasn't going to joke about something that effected people around me, I would have a pretty damn short list of things to laugh about.
Spoiler alert, we are all going to die. Some will be long and drawn out, some will be quick and painless. Some early in life, some late. Its not tragic, its inevitable.
Might as well have fun with life and how crazy it can be. We will all end up in the grave one way or another, doesnt really matter how we get there. Ahhh..Excuse me sir........

I believe it does matter how we get there. Wow.

Let's see...

Bullet to the skull

or.......

Die of a heat attack with a chick polishing the knob?

I'll be over in that loooooooooong fucking line.

Re: Maurice Hurst and Arden Key Cut

I’m not going weird here but I don’t read Keys words as bashing the Raiders at all. I take it to mean something along the lines of maybe being cut is what will make him reinvent his attitude and be the wake up call he needs to excel his game. I don’t think it will work for his football skills but I still don’t read it as “bashing” the Raiders. Maybe it’s because when I was in my early 20’s I found myself in jail one night and it allowed me to reassess my life for a few hours. Without going into details, looking back, going to jail that night may have been the best thing that happened to me as it forced me to make a decision to go left or right at the fork in the road I was traveling. Too sappy? Not at all bra. Spent my 18th birthday in court......18 months later...... never went back.

At any rate....far too many players leaving the Raiders with similar comments over the years.

So basically Kolton Miller left as the only contributor from the 2018 draft. Two things a Raiders fan can always count on; a bad defense and wasted drafts. That's why I can't get excited about the draft anymore.

Re: Barret Robbins arrested on Youtube 4/2/21

I totally understand your position, I tried to help addicts for years, I finally got to the point where I couldnt take it anymore. The lying, the stealing, the relapse. Even when they "recover" many times they are never really the same.
I can say though, after my first tour in Iraq I was a freaking mess. I knew something was wrong but I though it would just go away. It got worse and worse, I would seek help, I took meds, and would think I had it under control, but I didnt. I was angry, violent, suicidal.
It got to the point where I would go without sleep until I would hallucinate. I didnt even know what was real anymore. I literally went years on less than 2 hours sleep a day. No one at work or frineds even knew what was happening becuse I just kept pushing through.
Took different meds, got a little better, thought I had it handled, but I didnt. I starded obsessing over things. I had a lifted truck and I was convinced some one was going to step off a curb in front of my truck. So much so I would avoid driving. I was always projecting disaster on every situation. If I took a shower I would think my dog was dying choking on her food and I would run out of the shower to make sure everything was ok. I would hear explosion or screams for help when I would run the lawn mower and would have to cut it off every few minutes to make sure everything was normal.
It took YEARS longer to get to where I am now, which is close to back to normal with no meds and counseling 1 time a month.
My point is, many times when you are battling with mental health, you "think" you have everything under control, until you dont.
Barrett has mental health issues AND addiction. Its a deadly combo.
You can trust me when I tell you he has massive internal pain. When that injury and pain is on the inside it can be hard for others to understand. Sometimes when people tell you "why dont you get help" it can feel like someone telling a blind person "why dont you just see?".
It feels like nothing will help. Many turn to drugs and alcohol to numb the pain and escape, but it only makes it worse. It is terrifying when you cant trust your own mind.
So Im not saying he is worthy of your sympathy but I would say its important to understand that one of the most dangerous parts of mental illness is your brain rationalizing your behavior. It feels so hopless at times you think nothing can or will help. I know you speak the truth because I have lived it with my wife's son. We are right now dealing with another episode.

God bless you....Thank you for your service.....stay the fucking course.....and if you ever want to talk...PM me and I'll give you my #.

It gets easier, as we get older
It gets easier to say, "not today"
And it gets easier, as we get older
To say, "go away, not today"

I don’t have to do
One damn thing
That I don’t want to do
Except for missing you
And that won't go away

It gets easier to say "some other time"
It gets easier to tell the world to wait
And it gets easier to watch the world fly by
And tell it, "I will catch up, but not today"

I don’t have to do
One damn thing
That I don’t want to do
Except for missing you
And that won't go away

A candy-colored clown they call the sandman
Tiptoes to my room every night
Just to sprinkle stardust and to whisper
"Go to sleep. Everything is all right."

I close my eyes, Then I drift away
Into the magic night. I softly say
A silent prayer like dreamers do.
Then I fall asleep to dream My dreams of you.

In dreams I walk with you. In dreams I talk to you.
In dreams you're mine. All of the time we're together
In dreams, In dreams.

But just before the dawn, I awake and find you gone.
I can't help it, I can't help it, if I cry.
I remember that you said goodbye.

t's too bad that all these things, Can only happen in my dreams
Only in dreams In beautiful dreams.

Ohio woman arrested over an April Fools' Day text about a possible active shooter

A 57-year-old woman was arrested Thursday after an apparent April Fools' Day joke about a possible active shooter at the manufacturing plant where she works in Springfield, Ohio, the local sheriff's office.
Pamela Sisco was at the Navistar plant when she texted her sister that a man who had been fired the day before had returned with a gun and they were all hiding in locked offices, Clark County Sheriff's Office Maj. Christopher D. Clark said in a statement.
Sisco's sister called authorities at 11:44 a.m. She told the dispatcher she was afraid to text her sister back if they were hiding, CNN affiliiate WHIO reported.

Clark said they scrambled law enforcement to the plant from multiple agencies.

"Every available unit, to include our surrounding villages and townships, responded to the scene and the first Deputy made entry into the facility at 11:46 AM," Clark said.

Law enforcement units checked the facility and found Sisco, who admitted "she sent the text message to her sister as an 'April Fool's Joke,'" Clark said. "No threat of any kind was found to be inside the plant."
Sisco has been charged with "inducing panic and disrupting public service," the statement said, but charging documents were not available.

"Ms. Sisco placed a lot of people in harm's way this morning over a stupid April Fool's Joke," Clark said.

It is not clear whether Sisco has retained an attorney at this time.
