I totally understand your position, I tried to help addicts for years, I finally got to the point where I couldnt take it anymore. The lying, the stealing, the relapse. Even when they "recover" many times they are never really the same.
I can say though, after my first tour in Iraq I was a freaking mess. I knew something was wrong but I though it would just go away. It got worse and worse, I would seek help, I took meds, and would think I had it under control, but I didnt. I was angry, violent, suicidal.
It got to the point where I would go without sleep until I would hallucinate. I didnt even know what was real anymore. I literally went years on less than 2 hours sleep a day. No one at work or frineds even knew what was happening becuse I just kept pushing through.
Took different meds, got a little better, thought I had it handled, but I didnt. I starded obsessing over things. I had a lifted truck and I was convinced some one was going to step off a curb in front of my truck. So much so I would avoid driving. I was always projecting disaster on every situation. If I took a shower I would think my dog was dying choking on her food and I would run out of the shower to make sure everything was ok. I would hear explosion or screams for help when I would run the lawn mower and would have to cut it off every few minutes to make sure everything was normal.
It took YEARS longer to get to where I am now, which is close to back to normal with no meds and counseling 1 time a month.
My point is, many times when you are battling with mental health, you "think" you have everything under control, until you dont.
Barrett has mental health issues AND addiction. Its a deadly combo.
You can trust me when I tell you he has massive internal pain. When that injury and pain is on the inside it can be hard for others to understand. Sometimes when people tell you "why dont you get help" it can feel like someone telling a blind person "why dont you just see?".
It feels like nothing will help. Many turn to drugs and alcohol to numb the pain and escape, but it only makes it worse. It is terrifying when you cant trust your own mind.
So Im not saying he is worthy of your sympathy but I would say its important to understand that one of the most dangerous parts of mental illness is your brain rationalizing your behavior. It feels so hopless at times you think nothing can or will help. I know you speak the truth because I have lived it with my wife's son. We are right now dealing with another episode.

Adam Treu. Raiders were finished as soon as that happened. Combined with only being off a week between the game... we were finished when Callahan refused to change the audibles before the game. Gruden had the defense primed for this and they knew the plays before the ball was snapped. with that kind of defense, that was giving the keys to the kingdom to them.

Growing up in Sacramento we had outlaw sprint car races I used to sneak in to as a kid in the early 80s. All the cars had small block V8s pushing 650hp in a 1000lb car, it was insane.

yea, in retrospect I could see us a playoff team inspite of the defense with the Brady influence. Not a contender, but making it, sure. Ah, what might have been lol. If grown men who are being paid millions of dollars strike because they have to play 3 more hours of a game many of us would give a finger to still play, that will be it for me. The data can be wrong too, VERY wrong on MANY occasions. Data many times is manipulated for the people that purchase it or gather it.
Science has been proven wrong more times than can be counted. Hell, just Vioxx killed 60,000 people before they even pulled it off the market.

This "follow the science" crap is just another way of them saying "do what we tell you to do". The whole point of science is trying to prove yourself wrong over and over until there is no more doubt, then when new tech come along, you use it to try to prove your self wrong again.
That is not what is happening with science today. It is being used to push an agenda ( sales, political) rather than trying to prove itself wrong beyond a shadow of a doubt.
I will take the vaccine because it will give people a false sense of security, and they will stop freaking out, so we can get back to some sort of normal. But celebrities telling me to "follow the science" when most of them have never had more than an undergraduate science class, has absolutely no bearing on my decision. I have done a ton of research on this particular set of vaccines, working in the industry I have access to a bunch of info. Based on the info we have, the data collected, this particular set of vaccines is highly effective. No manipulation. But note, it is based on the data we have. We do not have the full data set. Following the science suggests this is the proper course of action. But science in its purest form is about trying to find the correct answers. The problem is that data can change that correct answer as we get more of it.

I for one do not follow the "science" of the media, I have access to findings and research. It is fascinating but incomplete. It will be incomplete for a long time. When you have incomplete data and are in a situation where you have to go with the best possible solution, you are following the science but you have to know it is a very educated conclusion but not the final conclusion. The data so far is encouraging. I like what we have done for the first time. I am also aware the needle will move nonstop for a long time. This time last year, the data suggested a higher mortality percent. As we collected more data, that number moved. As we moved into the summer, the data suggested a spike in the winter which was higher than the reality. It was not the data that was wrong, it was the conclusion.

would you as a fan rather trade him before or on draft day for a 3rd round pick ( which would be reasonable if a team is getting a starter and that team has a very reasonable contract. Even if he is a starter he will still be under $10 million)

If this is the year we really think we want to push deep in the playoffs then we want him as back up incase Carr gets hurt.

Trade or Keep him ? After 2016 I’d rather keep him. I think we’d be lucky to get a 3rd for him. We may not win when he comes in, but at least we have a chance.

How do you know the roster has not been improved? You are assuming it has not. Even me, Mr. Skeptical and the glass is half full guy, cannot just blast the latest moves. It is not possible to know what this all means. I’ll admit the the past few years are only marginally better than the Reggie years but hope springs eternal.
