I expect a loss. This team is broken. It has been for a very long time. I cannot get over how our defense just keeps doing similar things for decades with different DC's. The only one I thought made a difference at some level was Gus Bradley, he got the passive defense to preform, then coaching change, he left, took players that made plays with him. Back to square one and he was like a square two.

The last great defensive game the Raiders played where they dominated was the last game of the season against the Chiefs in 2000 and fucking 10. If you remember that day, it was glorious, it reminded you of the old Raiders. It worked so well we blew the Chiefs out, learning never to do that again.

Andrew Wiggins of the Warriors was out like 2 months and there was nothing leaking until like the moment he was coming back and was getting back into shape. In his case it was his dad being ill. Now in this case we have the SM posts where that is off the table, but it seems a new thing where players can go missing for good stretches and not get any news. Media gaining a conscience? That's hard to believe. Medical is always supposed to have privacy along with it, it's just odd when it really even works.

Has anyone ever had a impossible whopper from Burger King or know anyone who has ever had one? I've had a couple, the first was really good the second was dry and not very good. So I went to the rule book:

A defender may use his hands or arms only to defend or protect himself against impending contact caused by a receiver.

This becomes gray to me and I can see why one would think it could be legal and maybe it is. It doesn't directly address QB's out of pocket, but it states if a QB is in pocket you can't make contact. So since it doesn't state if out of pocket it is fair game? This is why we have lawyers.

Can any recall a team arguing on a penalty against them... I can't illegally hit the WR because the QB was out of pocket? I'm allowed to do this and I did. I don't think I've ever heard that, but my memory isn't as good as it once was. Or maybe we don't see this as refs see a QB out of pocket and only Holding or Pass Interference is on the table?

As my grandpa would say: criminy! If he isn't, I sort of am. Last time was 23 years ago, we've had to be in this position ~50 times during that period and that is the first time it worked. That tells me "old thinking" once again is just that.

And what happened next is ~40 times the other team got the ball back and scored on our suck ass D for that same time frame. Raiders lose. Rinse and Repeat.

You don't think Jimmy is the Raiders bridge QB ? you think he was brought in to be the long term solution ? One could have said it about Gannon. We don't know wtf Juimmy is until time plays this out. He might be a bridge, but if somehow he can stay healthy (most likely less than 50% chance), does he have 5 more years in him? Probably. That's a lot in football time, that isn't a bridge. He needs to do his part, he needs not be the problem, stay healthy and who knows how long he could be here.

On the interception, prior to that we went for it on 4th and short within Carlson's range while trailing by 3, that was a mistake. You need to square the game up. We ended up with Zero and if Jimmy doesn't throw the pick, we still end up with the same result we most likely had a few minutes earlier. I don't feel we made the right call going for it.

It makes no sense for GM/HC to rescind the offer other than "you play by our rules!". They have the cap space, he's one of the best, it's a one year. It's totally ideal for the Raiders. If Mark stepped in and said give him even more than Franchise, fine whatever, we have the room to do so and not risking a long term. If they have the space, to me for a one year he's worth more than what he got. This is an ideal way to handle top RB's, spiked dollars, lower years.

Does anyone know anything about that trade? What was he offering, etc? Was it a behind the scenes move that thwarted it, or was that just Al being Al? This was news a few years after the fact from Al's pov. This was in the Raider hay day, there was this time in the early 80's the expert talkers was shifting the narrative to "The Raiders are the best franchise ever in football", they weren't wining the most SB's, they had 3, Steelers had 4, but from the time Al took over and into the 80's they were the most consistent and as you've heard had the best winning percentage in all of american sports.

Then as you know the Rozelle/Davis spat that perhaps still carries some to this day. They were far from crazy about Al's success.

Al also went on the record pre-draft, John Elway will win 5 or 7 super bowls in his career, I cant' recall it if was 5 or 7. John did make that many, but lost most with a crap cast most of the time.

So Al basically was going all out to get John and there was going to be a 3-way I believe with the Colt-Bears-Raiders and when that came across the comish's table he said "hell no" and he made sure the other owners would drop that offer and so that's the story as I recall it from way back. I didn't see the much more recent 30-30 on this.

If Elway went to the Raiders in '83, it would have been a lot of Raider SB wins. For many years that was the missing ingredient and well documented "if the Raiders had a QB..." and I'm sure success in the 80's would have carried into sustained success throughout the 90's while John was there.

For sports I'm still partial to the Clayton/Slayer ESPN commercial.

I don't know if that site lists (please tell me if they do) but when the scabs ref'd a few games that last time the refs striked, we were top 5 in fewest during that span and when they regulars came back we found our place back where we always are. To me that is worth noting for sure on a site like that.

There could be more dubious things happening behind the scene's, but there was an article decades ago now and sorry I can't find it online anymore, that a retired ref explained the Raiders penalty conundrum when asked and here is how it goes. Any time a ref had a Raider game it was "Raider Week for them" this is a known thing within ref'ing ranks. What this meant is their games are much more tightly called for both sides to keep it in control and you didn't want to be the ref to lose it. The team we played that week would have more times then not have more penalties than what they typically average for a game because of extra scrutiny, the problem is every game is Raider Week to the Raiders, every game they play in is under heavy scrutiny.

A part of me can even see when we were the nasty's why this could be a thing, think Early 90's and prior + add 10 years because it takes time for stigma's to wear off. So that is now 20 years ago, is Raider Week Bias still a thing? From that site and the penalties called it seems so, even though it does feel different than prior to me sometimes, perhaps we get an ok'ish season for us now and then. I get how Raider Week could have been a thing, but if it is still bad the last 20 years, then it does feel there are other biases coming in, we hit or play no dirtier than the avg NFL team now and that's been like that for a loooong time.

I always like to add, I know I'm not paranoid about this, I have plenty of other teams in all sports that I like or have liked over the years and this has only stuck out to me with the Raiders, even though I haven't felt really bad about this in years now. Random bad calls happen everywhere, it's when you feel a pattern of WTF is going on here is when you start to think about it, this has only happened to me with one team the Raiders spanning almost 50 years now. LB could be the least mandatory in terms of needing quality on defense. 3/4 of the time they're replaced in nickle or dime Ds I love this thinking and that is what we do and we've sucked for over 20 year now here doing exactly that. So lets keep doing it.
