We all knew once AOC played well during the pre-season there would come a time during the regular season that fans would be campaigning to put him in. This is how the 49ers got their franchise QB. Jimmy G was hurt, the other dude was already on IR, and Shanahan had no other option but to start Brock Purdy.

McD can't bench Jimmy with the contract he vouched for.

Jimmy was dumb because of injury risk and now he's not even all that when healthy.

What a mess they created here. 2 more years added to "The Wait". I can't believe they restructured his contract before he played a snap. It's like they learned nothing from extending Carr, Waller, and Renfrow.

Our line is good enough, but when defense is stacking 8 up front cause we don't throw it downfield makes it tough to be effective. This OL is good enough to allow our QB to stretch the field....so the offense has to start doing it.

They also have the offensive weapons at WR to do it. Throwing some deep balls may not be Jimmy G's strength....but he needs to go there or defenses will continue like you say stacking the box taking away the run and the short stuff.

If Jimmy G can't or won't then get AO in there and let him rip away.

Changes have to be made. Either Jimmy G begins to sling the rock or someone else needs to step in and do the slinging.

He hasn't missed very many passes and has to go with whatever play is called.

Sure,he has 3 INT's but are not really his fault.I like that he will throw the ball into coverage giving our receivers a chance.

He doesn't have the yards that would look good,but at least he is not a pussy and fumble the ball alot.

I give him a B because he is not accurate with the deep throws. Throwing interceptions...not his fault. No yards...not his fault. Give him a B because he wont throw the ball past 15 yards. Nice breakdown...lol.

I like that Jimmy stands tall in the pocket and delivers an accurate and on-time ball in the short and intermediate.

I don't like his inability to stretch the field, which hurts our run game, and I've been surprised with how little he has distributed the ball. Game 1 was almost all Jakobi, Devante and RBs and game 2 he just looked at Devante and the RBs without Jakobi out there. I'm hoping that will get straightened out as he gets more chemistry. Not much we can do about the deep ball, but if he diversifies his targets our passing game should become more difficult to defend (which should hopefully also open up the run).

In my mind, the post-Carr process was not about immediately replacing Carr with a better player (we would need a little luck for that), but about turning over stones until we find a guy that can play. I always thought of Jimmy as a bridge in that process, the guy who keeps us afloat as we flesh out the rest of the team so that we can develop a young QB in a good situation. Only if he excels in the role will he be here beyond bridge duties, and so far I think it's safe to say he hasn't excelled The problem with that is the same issue we had with hanging onto Carr, you won't be bad enough to draft a blue chip QB and not good enough to make a playoff push. The odds of AOC becoming a world beater are pretty low because it's rare for a late round QB to be that type of guy. I hope he ends up being amazing but preseason games don't really count for much as shown by the 4-0 preseason record the Lions had the same year they went 0-16 in the regular season.

If the ownership/GM wasn't convinced that they had a team capable of a playoff push, why the hell are they keeping us stuck in that dumb gray area where you won't get a top QB in the draft? It's so frustrating.

I watched just highlights of the game so obviously a very limited view of him, but he did look slow to react and slow afoot. OK, no panic yet, he is just being tentative and will figure this out with the help of coaching. Did Chandler Jones say he only wanted to play for Patrick Graham? This becomes gray to me and I can see why one would think it could be legal and maybe it is. It doesn't directly address QB's out of pocket, but it states if a QB is in pocket you can't make contact. So since it doesn't state if out of pocket it is fair game? This is why we have lawyers.

Can any recall a team arguing on a penalty against them... I can't illegally hit the WR because the QB was out of pocket? I don't think I've ever heard that, but my memory isn't as good as it once was. Or maybe we don't see this as refs see a QB out of pocket and only Holding or Pass Interference is on the table? Yes. Even the announcers said as much. Once the qb is out of the pocket illegal contact shouldn’t be called as the wr could then be blocking

I’ll just say with 5 minutes to go the last QB would have most likely gone 3 and out or gave the ball back with enough time for the other team to get in fg range to win the game and his fanatics would have blamed the defense for not closing it out. He gets a passing grade from me.

I don't think Adams shares your optimism. From what I gather it is not (just) his injury history that concerns Adams but rather his inability to stretch the field. At least that is my take.

I still think we come in last in our division with the possibility of finishing 3rd just ahead of the Chargers.

They disassembled about half the roster last year and replaced some of those players from the Grudock regime and obviously they are continuing to do the same this year. Every one of our draft picks made the roster last year plus a few UDFA. That speaks volumes. It will be interesting to see if that is repeated, I highly doubt it. They even replaced Sieg.

And of course, the one who shall go unnamed in this thar thread was a foregone conclusion after signing his "I bet you will shit the bed" contract. Still, our schedule is tough, the Broncos got better just by switching HC's so they won't be pushovers anymore and we are on year 2 of the rebuild. A lot of changes... a lot. Next year we will be going into the season with a chunk of our players having been here a season or two. My main concern is Graham. Hope he can turn the defense around.

Not looking good IMO. I have a feeling Jimmy G will get exposed for what he really is. He doesn't have the defense that he had in SF and does not have the ability to play catch up. He's just not that kind of QB. I'm OK with whatever happens bc I want to draft our franchise QB next year regardless, whatever it takes.

We have new QB's, new WRs new TE's, we will have a new starter or 2 on oline, new on Dline, new Lbs, new CBs, New Safties... this roster is completly and totally turned over. It was a full rebuild in every sense.
Its all about how they come together and execute. It would not surprise me to win 2 all season, or win 8. Anything over 8 would shock me in a good way.
I feel like if you are going to gut a roster as aggressively as they did, you need to look lile things are improving. They desperately need to win 7 or more imo. They certainly have the offense fire power to get some wins. It’s hard to call us a rebuild when we had so little to begin with.

Our offence is returning (at this point) 8/11 starters. Our entire o-line, Adams, Jacobs, and renfrow all returning. Really the only change is QB, TE, and a WR.

Defensively it’s hard to distinguish rebuilding from just building. Our defence for the last 9 years has generally been a revolving door at 10/11 positions. Turning over 70% of our defence is pretty well a regular off-season for us
