Re: Wild Card week games

Jeevo wrote Mon Jan 16, 2023 7:56 pm:Just say no to Brady. We're not on the precipice of a title so let's find our next guy and not a short term bridge guy.
The problem is with the signings on Offense we are in their weird situation where we aren’t in a rebuild either.

I’m not sure we can go bridge or that Davis will go for it.

Re: Brandon Staley as D Coordinator

My position is (and this won't change)

Raiders defense needs a CB1 and a vet FS. Give them those 2 guys and the rest of the defense can be filled in to yield an average defense in 2023.

Problem is - where do you get a CB1 (elite) and a vet FS (elite)? They don't grow on trees and you can't get them in FA.

Give the DC another season. Please…

Much more than that is needed. Desperately need 2 corners, backers and interior line. Another edge rusher is needed also but you can only do so much in a draft.

I wouldn’t even address anything on O until mid to late rounds and only on the line.

Re: Reports Say Davis is “Embarrassed” by the “Friendly Home” that Allegiant’s becoming for oppone

This is what happens when you play losing football. No kidding. Davis has nobody to blame but himself for this. He moved the team to a city that caters to visitors and he hired Gruden and McDaniels. He really needs to look in the mirror and accept he created this entire mess and as long as he keeps hiring the wrong people to run his team he better get used to a friendly home stadium situation. The Knights don't have this problem but then again they actually win games and have been pretty successful.

Reports Say Davis is “Embarrassed” by the “Friendly Home” that Allegiant’s becoming for oppone

Wow. Nobody could have seen that moving the team for the third time and leaving behind tons of loyal born-and-raised fans in favor of a city of all tourists and “here today-gone tomorrow” residents could result in this.

Re: Thank you Derik Carr for your time with the Raiders

I know we didn't win much, but anything less than a SuperBowl means nothing anyhow.

I agree that this was likely never a SuperBowl team with or without Derek and we only missed our shot at 9 of those under Derek. We missed on the last over 30 though before him.

I don't regret that he was the QB that was here during that time, and I honestly keep trying to compare it to Schroeder who to me felt like he played forever also. This was rosy compared to the years of watching Schroeder.

The reality simply is that Derek needs too much around him. I think he hit a legitimate 11-13 QB rank in his time. That is an amazing accomplishment.

If he finds that magic system and magic coach and wins it all - Awesome. It simply is not here. For his cost, he would need to have played like a top 10 QB this year and prove that he is clutch in late season playoff implication level and cold weather games. Instead he fell to QB 18 or so and choked over 4 playoff hunt games and the worst when it was cold.

McDaniels is not truly the reason why he is gone imo. You can blame Mahommes, Allen, Jackson, and Burrows. The AFC is nuts and we have to get closer than Carr if we want our names in the hat. We are not a 40 million dollar warm weather QB away. We also have to realize that 3 of those QBs play in outdoor freezing stadiums in January.

It is business.

I thank Carr for his time and will always look back somewhat fondly honestly. I hated some of his flaws, but overall it could have been much worse. Like Ferrel, too much was asked of him.

It was the TebowMania level of fandom I hated. The lack of any accountability on Derek by his helicopter moms. That was the worst Raider experience I have, but it was not Carr's fault for that overall and I learned a ton debating with them.

Good luck Derek, once a Raider always a Raider. You earned your Shield and thank you. Jeremy, I usually don't always read long posts in their entirety, but yours was exceptional from the 1st to last sentence. WELL DONE!!!!!!

Re: The Official Derek Carr Benched Thread

So carr is not going to help in practice or help game plan, or be there for his teammates... to not be a distraction? But I thought he "cares SO much"?
This is exactly what I would expect of him. This is why no one bought in to his fake ass persona. I would hope he would be there for his teammates and not make this all about him, but it is and always has been, all about him If he's such a phony, why would his teammates want him around? if he was too stupid to learn the playbook, what possible good could he be helping to gameplan? You are letting your giddiness at Carr being gone cloud your thinking

Raider Fans are Sold a Bill of Goods!

Wow this is so spot on! From an NFL Executive

“Raiders fans are sold a bill of goods by their team of Just Win Baby. It is the franchise’s fault. Don’t blame your fans for being pissed that you’re losing, blame the organization that sells that and doesn’t live by it. The team has hardly every had a defense for the kid (Carr) yet it is always his fault.

Be careful what you wish for. There are guys better than Derek Carr, no question. But that isn’t an extensive list, and those guys don’t come available all the time. Mark Davis gave Josh McDaniels a mulligan in year one, he won’t get that in year two. McDaniels and Ziegler aren’t stupid, it is hard but not impossible to get better than Derek, but you can’t jump to just please fans, or next year you are done. And there won’t be a second chance for Ziegler, or a third chance for McDaniels, and they know that.”

Funny how the first-year rookie (Pickett) played in the same -11 degrees and winds, but completed passes the ninth-year rookie (Carr) could not.

It will be interesting to see if Davonte Adams and Josh Jacobs want to stay with the Raiders, they already know the head coach is a clown.

Re: The Official Derek Carr Benched Thread

...but when the dust settles, the focus will be entirely on McDaniels next season.

So, for his sake, he better get this right. Agree 100%.

If McD stinks up the joint, then we'll all want him gone. We'll hope for the best, but be glad to see him gone if the team falls on its face, and that's as it should be.

What I can guarantee there won't be are McDaniel fanatics.

The New Offense

obviously Jacobs will be the focus going forward so I expect a lot of loading the box. But how will Jacobs respond is the question. He has run hard all year so I expect more of the same.

Stidham is not Carr, so the offense will change for the air attack. Are we opening things up now? We got the same weapons, so it will be interesting to see how everyone responds to the news. Will they shut down or release the Kracken.

All I know is I will be watching with renewed interest this weekend.

Re: The Official Derek Carr Benched Thread

If that's the case then it has to be for $5-8 million and not a penny more. While STILL drafting a QB.

But I am convinced that Carr will retire this offseason. No one will want to pay a below average QB elite money and I don't think he will take a cut in pay. No, Carr will retire from the NFL this offseason and continue fleecing people's money on Sundays as some weird evangelist.

Re: McDaniels blames Carr for last 6 weeks of offensive struggles

Carr has been stinking it up for some time now. You do not wait till your playoff aspirations are over and THEN decide...oh I better light a fire under Carr to see what might happen. Unless of course, Josh is an idiot. but he did imply several positions. And the vote is not yet in on whether Josh is an idiot. It was pretty widely reported that he wrecked the locker room in Denver. Pressure of the job could have sparked a relapse.

Re: Moe Moton story on Carr and the defense

A lot of good talking points on both sides. The Raiders traditonally do best when their defense is top 15 or better. It is, however, much harder to change up 11 guys plus their backups quickly than it is to change 1 guy. On the flip side, it is far harder to find a top level 1 guy at the QB position than pretty much any other on the field.

I have advocated for changing the QB position but even I know success rate doing so is far lower than keeping a serviceable alternative and we do, honestly, have a serviceable guy there. In my mind it comes down to the economics of the thing. If we are paying top dollar for a guy, he needs to be a top dollar guy. If he is not, we waste funds that could go to improving other areas.

But at some point you have to ask if saving money at the key position on the field and spreading the wealth will net you in wins? That is the crux of the matter. It is all tied into dollars vs wins. We have failed there for years. But emotionally keeping a player at the expense of dollars for wins is also a problem. We, I think, have done that to a large degree for literally decades. It is time to run this show as a business. And the desired product is wins and every dollar must go toward improving that product so you get the wins.

All that to say, i hope no matter which direction we go, we get the product this fanbase is starved for, and deserve as we have often been told by the decision makers.
