Re: Raiders sign Andre James to an extension

Would add to this, that THIS offseason is the one offseason where this type of move makes even less sense. While they are asking players to adjust their salaries so that they have more room under the decreased cap this year -why then turn around and unnecessarily raise the salary of a player this offseason that is already under control. Or am I wrong and it does not impact his salary this season. All the moves this offseason have been about managing the cap in future years (with Drake being the lone exception). I'm telling you guys that Mayock has earned the trust of Gruden and Davis to make a solid long term cap management plan.... I really like this offseason.

Re: Official 2021 Free Agency Thread

IF so, still think they should have started Mariota late in the season - so as to possibly wet the appetite of possible suitors in the offseason. What the Raiders did...still makes no sense to me. And the fact that they just released him and got nothing for him tells me that they played it wrong. The last thing you need is a QB controversy. Carr had played great last season, why take him out. Let him continue to build confidence. The Raiders aren't out anything, Their defense wasn't going to let him do anything. To be honest, I think this year is going to be better, but I don't know if the playoffs are in store. Looks like Mayock is getting the cap balanced. I don't think he was here when all those OL contracts with the huge salaries were made. This offseason looks to me like Mayock has finally earned his respect and Gruden/Davis are letting him do the job.

Re: Official 2021 Free Agency Thread

OK - if I am going to buy that - don't you think we should have seen more of Mariota last season? When the playoff push became a disaster, why not hand the ball to Mariota to see what he could do? To watch both in practice is one thing, but to see them in actual game conditions would have been a prudent move by Gruden. You have to remember that Mariotta was an injury disaster early on. By the time the playoff push was over they had already decided that Carr was making enough improvement in play and managing the offense that he was their guy.

Look for another Agholor instead.
JuJu would not be replacing Agholor, it would be to replace Williams as the #1, allowing Ruggs to be the #2 along with Edwards.

It’s comical how soft a lot of people are these days. The guy is funny and generally right. We have been a bad team for a long time. Until we fix that this type of stuff will continue Totally disagree. His use of statistics would get him ridiculed in a scientific community. isn't really that hard to cherry pick statistics to make appear in any light you want.

If Mark Davis had any balls, he'd do this:

- walk rignt into the locker room at halftime
- stare right into Gruden's eyes
- drop his pants and take a massive shit right in front of him
- then walk the fuck out

Sunday morning, he'd renegotiate his contract and say you'll get X amount if you can actually hire a good OC to call plays in the red zone. This may be the dumbest thing ever said in this forum... and that is saying something

Re: Paul Guenther has been fired.

It's false data in the way you presented it whether intentional or not it's misleading. If you're going to insert yourself and statistics into a convo regarding salary cap rankings and salary cap spending while claiming you are posting statistics in order to help others to sort out false data at least please use the real salary cap spending numbers/spending rankings next time.

The cap doesn't suddenly shrink or grow on your whim of what you think is important criteria and what you think isn't. What gets spent in the cap is what is spent in the cap and unless you are at the very least prefacing it with a disclaimer that you are choosing to not disclose over 17 mil in spending arbitrarily and changing league spending rankings by 8 spots based on what you think is important which is not the reality of the actual salary cap spending/rankings. What you did was misleading and yes, this discussion is over. I am done with this.. You are pushing a false narrative with your use of total team cap to criticize coaches. If you can't see that by now you never will. All the name calling you are doing will not change facts

Re: Paul Guenther has been fired.

I'm sure you have a good explanation for how this other post of yours below isn't misleading unless you think the difference between 15th and 23rd is insignificant ....The real numbers show the team has the 2nd most expensive offense and rank 23rd in defense spending, Here's a link to the real salary cap statistics.
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/las-vegas-raiders/positional/

Just to sort out all the false data.

.The Raiders are 2nd in the NFL spending 107.88M on offense. The average cap spent on offense is 73.9M.

The Raiders are 15th in the NFL spending 63.76M on defense. The average cap spent on defense is 65M.

Very obvious the offense has more money spent on it, but that is not the entire story. The defense is in the top half of cap spent and very near the average spent on defense, but far from average in results. [/b] Yeah. Was all active cap as it was pertaining to posts where people were debating coaching skill..

Tired of this circular conversation

Re: Paul Guenther has been fired.

Ok, let's see check this out say I say the offense is 23rd in overall spending this season. It's misleading if the actual number is 5th in the league but due to some injuries they are now 23rd it's misleading especially if isn't prefaced with this is only for current active roster in week 14 due to injuries and not actual salary cap spending and does not count players cap hits due to injury. Ranking positional spending like that can easily be misunderstood. Saying the coach is bad because the team is 5th in offensive spending, but they aren't 5th in total offense when the highest paid linemen in the league has only played 2 full game all season is misleading. Using Cap to rate coaching is misleading..

Re: Paul Guenther has been fired.

Oh, I had no idea that when players get IR'd they no longer count towards the salary cap?
Is that a new rule?
Because 16th in spending on defense vs the true 23rd overall spending on defense
and 30th in spending on WR's vs 17th is actually quite significant if it isn't.
And close to 7 mil off the OL line total is quite significant as well because that would make it the most expensive O-line in the league.
So in reality the team has the 2nd most expensive offense in the league and would be 23rd in spending on defense. Quite a discrepancy if there isn't a rule change that I'm aware of. I used the active Roster because I would think it a little unfair to use cap spending as a barometer for coaching ability when using salaries for players not on the field. I don't think cap spending is fair to rate coach ability because of the different contract types. It's not really apples to apples.

Re: Wildcard remaining schedule analysis - 3 games left

I really don't understand all the complaining about the offense. They are 10th in the league in scoring and that is missing Trent Brown for all but 2 games and Richie Incognito for all but 1 game (did he play more than 1 full game?). That also includes only scoring 3 points in the Atlanta game and not having any OL to practice with for the entire week of the TB game. They have scored over 30 pts 7 times. That is with a defense that didn't really give them great field position, or extra possessions I would love to see where the Raiders are ranked in the NFL in points/drive. I swear, some of you think that the only good offense is one that scores a TD every time they get the ball.

Re: Paul Guenther has been fired.

Where the Raiders rank by position on cap spending
QB - 3rd - 31.6M
RB - 11th - 7.4M
FB - 15th (of 18, 13 teams don't use a FB) - .68M
WR - 30th - 6.9M
TE - 2nd - 14.9M
OL - 2nd - 46.8M

Defense
DL - 15th - 24.2M
LB - 19th - 15.8M (but only have 5 LBers, they are ranked 6th when you look at average dollars spent per player at position)
DB - 16th - 23.8M

Re: Wildcard remaining schedule analysis - 4 games left

How can you say that when a win provides a 70% chance of making the playoffs and a loss drops it to 27%? If they win this game it's highly probable they make the playoffs and if they lose it's highly probable they miss. If that's not must win then I don't know what is. I know some of you are setting yourselves up to retain hope if they lose but IMO the season is probably over if they lose this one as it will mean a 1-3 record in their last 4 games which to me does not look like a team on its way to running the table with three straight wins.

I really hope Gruden pulls out all the stops on Sunday as there's no point in leaving anything for next week. We need to see a focussed team ready to play and hopefully Guenther doesn't get in the way. Totally disagree with you on a definition of a must win.. A must win is where you have to win to keep whatever hope you have for the title/achievement you are hoping to achieve. If the hope is a playoff berth, this is not a must win. It is a highly desired win, but not a must win because the Raiders are not eliminated by a loss to the Colts.
