Re: The Derek Carr Discussion Thread

And BTY...the statistic you keep touting is an absolute misrepresentation of the facts. You are only looking at games where the defense actually held the opposing team to less than 20 points....NOT all the games where the raiders failed to score 20 or more points...win or lose.

In the 31 Games Russell started....they ONLY scored 20+ points 5 times. 5 times. And this is the guy that can lead a team into the playoffs. Give me a fucking break.

5 TIMES with 20 or more points in a game our of 31 attempts. FIVE.

He averaged less than 12 points a game....and he only broke the 30 point mark TWICE! Our fucking defense gave up an average of 30 points a game...

You have got to be kidding me with your bs stats.....

Re: "I can breath" controversy

The most prominent athlete in the country if not the world has also expressed his outrage with the tweet. And he hasn't taken it down either, after Mark said what he had to say in response. He also cared enough to post it at 2:36 AM. No one cares what LeBron James thinks. Just like Mark Davis isn’t the sharpest tool in the world, neither is LeBron.

Re: The Derek Carr Discussion Thread

I dont disagree he started last year like that however it sure “felt” like he regressed in the second half of the season or later 1/3rd. Facts dont have feelings brother.....

Offense: First 8 games = 218 points....Last 8 games = 215 points.
Defense: First 8 games = 229 points....Last 8 games = 249 points.

Re: The Derek Carr Discussion Thread

https://twitter.com/joshdubowap/status/1212588322758938624

Defense is just this year's blame game.
Russel is 6-2 btw.

Look at the last 25 SuperBowl winners and you will see 20 of those were won by hall of fame or soon to be hall of fame QBs.

To win a SuperBowl you need both sides, so this years blame game still gets us nowhere.
To win a SuperBowl with Carr you need a Cinderella season on top of that.

It is a piss poor long shot. We may sneak in but Gruden is continually outcoached and if you hit Carr dirty just once he plays in fear.

If you watch football, you are aware of that. Every coach in the league is. Haskins' biggest lover returned to the board. Tell us again about how he will be a superstar and better than Carr. I need a good belly laugh.

Regarding that stat:

1. How pathetic at that point of the stat that Carr has started 6 years in the NFL and only 21 times has the defense allowed less than 20 points. Pathetic. As one commenter said, "So in 94 games as a Raiders, only in 21 (22%) Raiders defense allowed less than 20 points??? And in 26 games, Garoppolo's defense had 10 games (38%) with less than 20 points?

That's ALL we need to know about this stat."

Also, think about it. As that point after 2020, Josh Allen already had 15 games with less than 20 points in two seasons. Including 2021, the Bills added six more games to the tally for only 21 games in three seasons (nearly half of his 44 games)! In comparison, Carr has had 23 games in seven seasons! (Two in 2021 and one was courtesy of all time awful weather). Compared to most long term starters, Carr's sample size is small.

2. Defense is this year's blame game because it ranked 21st all-time in points allowed. So yeah, it deserves the blame for being historically awful. http://mcubed.net/nfl/ptmpapg.shtml

I understand that type of nuance and research is too difficult for some people here to grasp but I still hold out hope that reason can be seen. But it is easier to say "EXCUSE" "PUSSY" "FULL FETAL."

"Plays in fear" yet he had one of his best seasons despite a 24th ranked O-Line. Seriously, are you reading from a 2018 script?

Oh, regarding your Super Bowl stats: https://www.si.com/nfl/talkoffame/nfl/scoring-defense-the-key-stat-for-super-bowl-contention#:~:text=The%20Top%2010%20returning%20scoring,)%20and%20Denver%20(316).

"But there is one statistic common to every champion since 2013 – a stinginess on defense. All ranked in the Top 10 in scoring defense. They did not allow points. That’s been the one statistic universal to the success of all Super Bowl champions – 47 of the 54 winners ranked in the Top 10 in scoring defense. Of the 108 teams that have reached the Super Bowl, 89 of them ranked in the Top 10 in scoring defense."

(2020 TB made it 48 out of 55 teams)

But I am sure Haskins or whatever other QB you wanted would have made the Super Bowl with last year's abysmal defense. :smirk:

Re: The Derek Carr Discussion Thread

I'm in the camp of trading him and getting as many draft picks as possible, we already know we're going no where with him as the starting QB. Our division is about to leave us in the gutter when Denver gets a better QB. Chargers looking good with Herbert. We heard the same thing last offseason. -- Sun Apr 18, 2021 9:39 pm -- https://twitter.com/joshdubowap/status/1212588322758938624

Re: The Derek Carr Discussion Thread

Context. You should go back and read form the beginning. I answered a question posed which can only be an opinion answer. However I used a stat I’ve seen to back up my opinion. I forget the exact number but it had to do with defense holding teams below 20 or 17 or something of the sort. In that situation Russel has a better win % than Carr.

Therefore if we had a better defense doesn’t mean Carr wouldn’t still be catching flack Are you serious.....Carr vs Russell? This is what we are discussing? Russell was a drank addicted non committed utter disaster. A fucking piece of shit afforded the contract upfront that Carr never received...that probably destroyed any desire or worth that idiot ever could have shown....buy yeah....that is what we are discussing? Russell had massive talent...but that fucktard was more interested in getting loaded than studying and learning his craft. For all Carrs faults...that dude is no Russell....and even bringing up that argument just shows how disconnected you are to reality. I am utterly disgusted to even mention those 2 men in the same sentance.

Re: Raiders vote to skip OTA's citing "COVID concerns"

Raider players will always vote for getting out of working.

As said, millionaires can get a vaccine, go get it and if you are one that doesn't want to, then you are on your own at that point, if you don't come that would be means of termination.

Let's not make this too hard. This.

Nothing but a bunch of lazy fucking lazy fucks.

Your excuses are your own. Pretty safe to say that while not all the players on the team are on board with this decision overall it's a really bad look. These guys need ALL the OTA's, mini's, TC so on and so forth they can muster. This is straight up garbage and I am so incredibly sick of the massively overpaid/overhyped my shit don't stink social justice warriors who now can't be even so much as bothered to show up for work.

Fuck you and your high horse you rode in on.

Re: The Derek Carr Discussion Thread

some fans cannot wrap their head around the idea that 7 years with one guy given the results kinda sours some on that one guy, because he is the only common denominator . The last 7 years the raider defense has averaged 26th in points allowed....never better than 20th.....and twice at 32. On average giving up 27 points a game.

Over that 7 year period....an average of 4.6 offenses averaged 28 points or more.

Conclusion:

Over the last 7 years....on average.... we would have needed the 5th best scoring offense in the league to average 8 wins a year with our defense ....and you blame Carr for our losing record?

How many SB's do you think Brady has if he needed the top scoring offense in the NFL to even make the playoff's?

Re: The Derek Carr Discussion Thread

People are acting like qb is just another position on the field, like he is at the mercy of every one else. A good qb can win despite everyone else. They inspire their team to perform better in all phases. The team WANTS to win for him. They push a little harder to get that sack or turnover. The wrs work a little harder to get open and to make a great catch when its needed.
QB is WAY more than just another guy on the field. They are a leader, a motivator, a time manager, a player manager, and so much more.
When you have a great one, you know.
When we get THAT GUY, everyone here will agree he is the guy. There will be no debate.
Until then, Carr is mid-tier qb that will look just good enough for fans to be affraid to replace him. His teammates regularly say Carr is THAT GUY to use your phase.

I will take their word.

Re: The Derek Carr Discussion Thread

"There are a lot of opinions on Carr (particularly among the Raider fan base), but most would agree that he at least deserves an opportunity to play behind an average defense. To this point in his career, the best defense Carr has played with was ranked 20th in the NFL. That was in 2016 and the Raiders went 12-3 that season before Carr broke his ankle.
In 2020, Carr and the Raiders went 8-8 alongside the worst-ranked defense in the NFL.
Imagine if the Raiders could have only played a competent version of defense in 2020?" ~ (Raider Beat)

https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/946/512/530.png Never met a fanbase that despises a player on their team as much as this group. I've met fans that know the game better than coaches and GM's....Ive met fans that are not happy with a player, or draft pic, or direction a team takes...but I have never met a fanbase that has such disdain for their qb. That kind of passion is usually reserved for someone like Mahomes or Rivers.....but not this group....they immediately fall to their knees for Mahomes....and then post some goofy meme about Carr.

Maybe Im just old school....where the team means everything and you bash on your rivals.

Re: The Derek Carr Discussion Thread

I think the thing that pissed people off most is Carr "appears" to be a game manager QB most times. But sometimes... just sometimes he will get motivated and do something pretty impressive ( lead a come back, make an amazing throw, run for a first down) . I think that is the most polarizing thing about him. I think most agree he has the ability to do special things, but seems like is happy to just be safe and "stay in" games. He never seems to want to put the dagger in opponents he is just content to be in the game and not make mistakes.
I just want to see him play with no mercy if you can put up 40 in the first half, do it. Its absolutely predictable when the offense is going to shut down and go in to safe mode.

Oh and the fumbles Personally i think Carr does as he's told, to a fault. If Gruden says let's go conservative Carr will be the good soldier and follow orders. Right now, Gruden is more of a problem than Carr IMO.

Re: State of the Raiders - Kool-aid vs Doom and Gloom

I think Gruden and Mayock are fucking morons but we'll see how the season shapes out....

In 2020 we had a top-10 offense, but one of the WORST defenses in NFL history... so (duh) the obvious thing would be to fix the defense.

But Gruyock are out signing a bunch of WR's, a stud RB (when we already have one), and washed-up D-linemen (besides Yannick) while the secondary is absolute trash... we have corners who can't cover (or tackle) for shit.... and no Free Safety on the roster. Apparently they are good with these scrubs like Arnett and Abram... Arnette and Abram were rookies let’s see how they do with time, no fat Paul and a real nfl offseason.

Re: The Derek Carr Discussion Thread

Carr progressed last year. He moved in the pocket, kept plays alive, and even scrambled some. That's a good sign, maybe he's a late bloomer. Hopefully he progresses more in 2021.. I don't think he's a late bloomer but more that he's had some terrible teams around him. 2016 was a good team as was 2017 where he wasn't that good. Aside from those two and last season, every other team has been down right bad for the most part. Consistency at coaching helps also.

Re: The Derek Carr Discussion Thread

Carr has thrown 3 INT's twice in his career. Brady has thrown 4 INT's 6 times and 3 INT's 4 times. Carr's putrid games, while putrid, may not be as bad as many seem to think. This is not to say Carr is better than Brady. Instead, it's to point out the Brady has always had a good D to bail him out. Carr never has.

Carr progressed last year. He moved in the pocket, kept plays alive, and even scrambled some. That's a good sign, maybe he's a late bloomer. Hopefully he progresses more in 2021. But, it won't matter if the D doesn't improve as well.

Edit to add:

Brady is 3-1 when throwing 3 or more INT's, in the playoffs. A top D doesn't just help, it's necessary.

Maybe you should just be a little more clear about your intentions with your comments to avoid situations like these.

You go from saying Carr is mediocre to me showing you facts that don't suggest that's true to "people in KC liked Alex Smith".... Don't you see how this could be confusing to someone?

“Way better than average”?

Gotta disagree friend. I think DC is the definition of mediocre. As people have pointed out before, teams with defenses as bad as ours was last season, historically, only win 19% of their games. We won 50% in spite of them. The offense, lead by Carr, was 8th in PPD and 10th on PPG.

Seems above average to me but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

And by the way, when we did beat the Chiefs, we did everything that you said we shouldn't do to beat them. Really? There can be a plethora of reasons why a team wins....I dont believe that the raiders aggressive offense was the reason why we won the first matchup or were competitive in the second.

And if you think our offense is more prolific than the chiefs.....why are you worried about Mahomes. Carr outplayed him in both games....so why on earth would you get rid of your qb that outplayed the guy you covet?

Re: Gabe Jackson Released

and now here we are with one starting lineman on a team where Carr has to have a line that is great to survive.

so, not in my opinion, we are not thinking very far into our future. Does anyone question why we gave up on Gabe? I don't. It was dollars. And everyone knew last year that the cap was gonna be shaky. And everyone knew Gabe was expensive. And everyone knew Cogs was injured. And everyone knew Brown was a liability.

These were known things. If you are gonna lose three of your penciled starters, and we knew we were going to, and you knew your defense was in shambles, and you knew the cap was going to go down, and you knew your money was going to be an issue, why would we be here now. Other than the cap and injuries (which a GM has to plan ahead knowing it will happen), these things were known 2 years ago. I do not look at win totals to determine that they did or did not plan ahead. I look at what we knew 2 years ago and then look at where we are at this very moment. And yet Carr had arguably the second best season of his career with the 2020 O-Line that was ranked #24 in the NFL.

Another myth busted.
