Re: Our Next Head Coach

We could have had Tom Brady, but Gruden stuck with his next door neighbor. I am not even worried about that anymore. I do agree that his personnel decisions were often horrible. But to suggest he would come back to the NFL and all the sudden he could tear a new asshole to the NFL just to get back at the commish is pretty farfetched to say the least. That argument suggests a person who was content to just do enough to keep their job. But all the sudden he has a desire to really coach to his max abilities. Who wants a clown like that anywhere near a team. I want the guy who has a desire to win at all costs. But, I do believe Gruden wanted to win at all costs but his coaching abilities coupled with god awful personnel decisions limited him, and that also happened when he got to make the personnel decisions in Tampa. When he was in Oakland, Davis was still pretty sharp and we all know he made most of the personnel decisions there. I think Gruden gets a bit of credit for Gannon but I do even buy that completely knowing what we know about Davis's desire to control things.

Re: Our Next Head Coach

So, yea, no. If it takes extra motivation for Jon to coach, then Jon is not worth having as a coach. If he could have coached like that to begin with, then why did he not?

Re: Why so much hate?

Why would we want to make the guy eat crow? He posted an optimistic view of the team. While I am not an optimist by nature, I have no problem with the view. So what if he is wrong, way too many people around here are hell bent on being right at all cost.

Re: Well that sucked, Raider Steelers post game thread

fans are traveling to games more and more often. Literally every venue I have visited no matter what the sport is, the visiting fans have increased quite a bit. Couple that with America's sandbox who the heathens love to visit (I kid of course) and a bad team? Magnet! Win and you fix a lot of that, you will never have a complete blackout but it can improve.

Re: Steelers At Raiders on SNF Game Thread

The Raiders and the Steelers have played each other 31 times with the Raiders holding a slim edge with 17 wins. 6 of those games were in the post season. The current odds have it like this:

Raiders -2.5 (I agree it is too close to call)
Over Under 43 (take the under)

Of course the most famous match up was the AFC Championship game in 1972 also known as the Immaculate Reception game. Debate over this game has raged on for the decades since the Steelers won the controversial game. That game may very well have been the first to go to booth review, but that has also been debated for years. The list of notable players from this storied history is too long to even attempt. Let's just be honest, neither team was sending Christmas cards to each other.

The menu today will be interesting. A friend of mine gifted the wife and I some excellent elk burgers so that is happening. Still deciding what to pair it up with, but pretty sure there will be very little going on the burgers themselves. Some salt and pepper might be just what the doctor ordered. The drink of choice tonight will be The Pope's Smoke 2021 (a Grenache wine)

So sit back ladies, as your Raiders host the Steelers in prime time on Sunday night football.

Enjoy the game

Re: On to the Steelers

Come on that was funny Raider forum, be a fan of the roster we got. If not, there are other things you can do on Sunday. Seriously, he is gone, you want to follow him, you know where to go. If not, be a fan of the Raiders. There is a thread elsewhere where you can pine for him.

I am not trying to be a dick, but I am getting tired of guys who trash him and guys who pine for him or take shots at the team for not retaining him. Check yourself and make the call, I am good either way.

Re: 2022 season tickets for sale

That was Madden’s last season wasn’t it? Give me the ‘76 season. If taken I’ll take 83-84. it was his last year. We won 9 games. Tatum paralyzed Stingley. Stabler had one of his worst seasons. But in the midst of all that, we did have a named game as the Holy Roller happened. Madden retired at the end of the season. At the time it was thought he had a fear of flying. Over time the understanding was that it was claustrophobia instead.

At the end of the season, Madden told Davis he was done. It was a time when the announcements were not really done frequently. Ted Hendricks found out hearing it on the radio. He called the Madden house and Mrs Madden answered, told him to come over if he wished. Ted wanted to bring a gift but she said it was just fine since others were also there. Ted, being Ted, could not let that stand. On his drive over, he saw the perfect gift. Broke out a saw in his truck and cut down a stop sign. It remained in the Madden backyard where it was fully mounted in the ground. As far as I know, it is still there to this day.

Re: Our Next Head Coach

Lance Kiffin. Here me out, Kiffin remains the biggest mystery of a coach we have ever had. He was brought in to interview for the OC position only to impress the old man over Sark. He fought the old man on drafting Russell only to lose. He is the only coach ever fired using an overhead projector in what can only be described as the most painfully cringe pressers of all time. To appease the old man we must reverse these memories and the only way is to bring in a successful Kiffin and let him lead us to the dance. When that happens, the sins of our forefathers will be forgiven and the old man can get out of purgatory and ascend to his rightful place at the head of the table in Valhalla where he will gather with his most trusted Raiders as they rule the afterworld.

The End

Re: Thursday Night Football Games thread

Not expecting much of a game. Hopefully the Giants can keep it close. Probably turning this one off sooner than later Yea, not invested in the outcome. I did not grow up in the bay area so never had the hate some fans have for the 9ers. Giants only interested me when they beat the Bills back in the day because we had been trashed by them. So my level of care is just that it might be a good game? But, there is the makings for lemon drops so I will be OK either way.

Re: Chandler Jones done?

Disparaging your team and your owner does not mean you have a mental illness. Maybe he's just a overpaid jerk who's not the player he once was. Certainly wouldn't be the first we've seen. The available evidence suggests otherwise. They could not use that designation willy nilly. Couple his social media meltdown with the team sending over a crisis team and then designating his status as it is now does, in fact, suggest very strongly that the team believes he had an event.

Re: Chandler Jones done?

This what I was getting at. They have to have a pretty solid case that he is losing it for them to make him inactive. I’m glad they are tight lipped about it, but my guess is this a pretty clear cut case of Jones having issues that the team just couldn’t overcome or fix. The governing law would be HIPAA and the corporate policy for the Raiders would be to not comment on players in situations like this. Ironically, as I have stated before, the players waive their full right to medical privacy so the gamblers can make more educated bets. They release a weekly injury report. So while HIPAA would be the governing law, that law is nullified by the CBA so the gamblers can make money.

Re: On to the Steelers

Weird score prediction. They got their butts kicked the first game and needed multiple defensive TDS to win their second. We could have beat Denver easier than we did the first game and got our butts kicked the second game by a Super Bowl contender needing to make a point.

Game should be close yea, but then you factor in that we are the Raiders....

Re: Las Vegas Raiders 1st drafted QB- Aidan O’Connell

I hope Mark grows some balls and forces McDouche to play OAC. We need to know exactly what we have. The season could get away from us quickly and the only thing that would make it worse is if this kid gets no playing time. I think playing O'Connell is a great idea but not yet. He needs reps in practice to get a better connection to the receivers he did not work with in preseason and he needs to be a sideline guy for a few more games so that when he does go in the speed of the game does not overpower him. He looked good in preseason, but a lot of second tier guys do as well, but we do have to know at some point if we have our guy or if we have a career backup. At this point, all we know is he is interesting, nothing more. But even as limited as his arm is, he can certainly go deeper than Jimmy.
