Most teams did pretty well..Atlanta screwed the pooch.They are in win-now mode and should have gotten a starter atlanta reminds me of the guy in vegas that plops down at the blackjack table who doesn't know what he's doing and tells the dealer 'hit me' with two tens in his hand...screwing up the round for all the other players at the table...oh well

i still have no idea where the raiders are going to go tomorrow. tbh, i didn't put too much brainpower into the draft this year, again, it's more about not making the terrible head scratcher pick like in prior first-round years...there is hope for the new regime, but we shall see beginning tomorrow.

i'll just re-post what originally posted 5 months ago...get a solid 10 year starter and keep it moving...
alt has shot up the boards since then and will obviously be gone by 13.
fuagua is still a solid choice but likely gone also by 10-12.
and signing wilkens takes away the need to go dt r1...

guards, tackles, rebuilding the lines...not exciting draft talk...but this is the way

two things:

1. i am relieved to see the raiders not on the fa newswire today - typically day 1 is the big splash signings, half of which is just burning money on future bust pickups, so get the guy you target highest and get out [wilkins - mission accomplished] and stay out of day 2-3 until the bargains start cropping up

2. amik leaving increases need for a solid cb - injuries are a thing at that position, and having solid players all year will help. [for the record, i liked amik, all heart on the field, he was just too small to realistically get it done on a consistent basis. i wish him well]

Not arguing if it's playoffs or bust for them but using that stance, why would they trade down for future assets (assuming that's what most of the compensation would be) vs staying at 8 and taking more immediate help? largely because for atlanta, with a #1 qb now firmly in place, the dropoff for non-qb r1 draft prospects is not huge between #8 and #13. they could trade out with raiders, get a 3rd round pick *this* year and get say, a jared verse at edge at #13, or a #1 cornerback. that would definitely qualify as immediate help

on the raiders side, the move up is strictly to get in front of denver and minnesota if QB is the real r1 target. i'm not a fan of moving up in the first because the price is always too high from a draft capital perspective, but signing a placeholder like minshew is a clear signal that they are serious about getting the qb this year

I don't think it necessarily takes Atlanta out of a first round qb. Cousins is older and coming off an achilles. He's not a ling term solution atl isn't thinking long term. arthur blank is 81. he knows it's late in the fourth for him and with all his life accomplishments, a super bowl win for his franchise is not part of them. a cousins signing at that price is 'get in the playoffs and win'

i think #8 overall is in play

and moving from 13 to 8 is not the hill that moving into the top 3 would have been

the minshew signing clearly indicates that the raiders aren't done at QB as far as next year's roster goes

teams like baltimore build well because they have a well-established identity and can then pick the players that fit that rather than fit square pegs into round holes

Can you or anyone else tell me why people are all in on Dodds ? The colts have been less then mediocre for awhile now... what am i missing ? dodds has been up for the position a couple of times now...likely would have been hired as the gm earlier if not for mcdaniels/ziegler being a package deal.
i started following dodds the first go-round, interviews, etc. posted some stuff here, maybe a couple years ago. here's one interview

dodds had history with the raiders, was here under al, successful with seahawks, successful with indy, looked to be a good cultural fit...better than ziegler, mark gave z the benefit of the doubt then, and we saw the result
i think this time it was more about telasco having the experience of being a gm.

ap has the right idea...this team should be built around the run game and a ferocious defense
indy was really good with regard to drafting linemen...
we fall in love with the skill players, but the next gm has to be good at identifying good linemen on both sides of the ball
AFC = all roads run through cold weather cities in the playoffs [kc, buffalo, cincy, baltimore, pitt...etc.]
plus raiders play two cold weather teams in their division [kc, denver]
so, for the rebuild...it's all about dominance on the lines, running the ball, tackling in what is going to be a very competitive division
i thought dodds was a great candidate for the job...and that the high picks were going to be VERY boring for the raiders during the next few drafts because they were not going to be primarily skill players.
we'll see what telasco does, hopefully he will respect the fact that ap has the team and fanbase behind him, and will work collaboratively together

I saw the entire segment. This rant was him playing devils advocate. i can see it. these days the cable tv nfl shows are about one good cop one bad cop yelling back and forth with each other, ratings

used to react to these kinds of things 'acho said what'? now, not even a yawn. they got jobs to do...get eyeballs on their shows, have to say outrageous things

youtube and other online outlets really killing the traditional broadcast game as far as nfl shows...we just tune in for the games themselves

Watching the Raiders in a game year 2000. The Raiders lead the league in rushing with Wheatley, Kauffman, Crockett. Randy Jordan and Terry Kirby chipping in. That's the type of running back room ya want. All good Raider teams had the two headed monster at least i definitely want a kaufman type on the team. man it was great seeing him get the ball and take it 80 to the house - full speed no one could catch him, and it looked like he was walking

Yep, I'm happy to see Silvera back - I thought he might decide to move on. Hopefully it works out better for he and the team this year. can't have enough d-linemen. the more successful teams seem to have a 5-6 man rotation to keep the players fresh and allow for specialists to do what they do best in specific situations

i'm a harbaugh/dodds guy but there is no way mark davis should pass over ap after this. it's more than the win, it's how they are winning. the players are playing their hearts out for this guy, and each other.

forget the dog and pony show, make it official now and move on to determining if the gm stays. you'll get ap much cheaper than a big name coach, and he is about that physicality so you can build around maxx going forward. the culture change is moving toward completion

koonce is rounding out to be the answer the raiders were looking for opposite maxx. if the team can get any improvement next year from wilson and add a monster d tackle this defense will be the identity of the team moving forward
