Re: It all starts in the trenches
Is anyone really comfortable with d-line...other than bringing Hankins back, the guy from the Bills & Yannick it's a bunch of reclamation projects??? 1. Rookie DT's suck - last year's best sack total by a DT was the following:
- Derek Brown (7th pick 1st round) 2 sacks
- Javon Kinlaw ((14th pick 1st round) 1.5 sacks
- a few guys with 1 sack
2. Philon has 9.5 sacks in his career, including 8.5 in his last 2 seasons. Yes, he was out with the legal issues a while, but he's 27 now without adding any mileage the last 2 years
3. Irving has 12.5 sacks in 39 games (about 2.5 seasons), including 4 and 7 in his last 1.5 full seasons in '16 and '17
4. We won't be ANYWHERE near the draft position to get a guy as athletic as Solomon Thomas at 17. He's the prototypical attacking 3-tech.. so the 9'ers played him at DE. Obviously it didn't work.... but we know we aren't getting a DT who ran a 4.69 40, 4.28 shuttle, 6.95 3-cone, and had a 35" vertical
Almost forgot the biggest difference -- PG is doing something else
