Re: Well that sucked, Raider Steelers post game thread

Horrible start to the season for sure........Doing my best to take a deep breath and have patience and see how the season ends.

Having said that if McD loses the team, may as well send him packing sooner than later. This time last year we were 0-3.

I predicted we would come in dead last in our division and maybe be in front of the chargers thinking Payton would get Wilson going but it looks as though Denver will be worse then the Chargers. Anyway, my expectations were low but as we sit now they have surpassed them so far...

Re: Tyree Wilson

After he got hurt, he was notably worse. People (correctly) said that he should be given the benefit of the doubt because he looked good before injury, let’s see what he can do year 1 fully healthy. With this pick, we haven’t gotten to see flashes, he is starting injured, and it might take until year 2 for him to fully get right. Shouldn’t we give him the same benefit of the doubt? People on this board were calling Kolton a bust from day 1 and said Derwin James absolutely should have been the pick

Re: JG in concussion protocol.

I may have missed it but I didn't see a hit on Garoppolo that should have put him in protocol. Having him in protocol now, McDaniels should keep him out a minimum of this week. My hunch is that it actually occurred in the game before and may have been restruck with that one hit in the game where he stayed down for a sec

Re: Tyree Wils

He broke his hand during Camp. He never bitched about it. He never quit. Thats the difference between winners and busts. Breaking your hand is a hell of a lot different from a Lis-franc & Wilson has never complained once

The pick was the pick nothing we can do about it but anyone who expected a player just off injury with no camp reps to look good whilst making up those reps in real game time is delusional no matter the pick

You can argue that we shouldn’t be picking an injured player but thats about it at this point in time

Re: JG in concussion protocol.

Is Mark smart enough to fire a coach? Idk what his mindset is. Part of me thinks he shares the narrative much of this forum did towards the end of Al's life, regarding keeping a guy just to prove you're not a coaching carousel. He won't fire a coach in order to prove he's not like his father. I disagree, but maybe I spent too many years under Al as well.

Beyond that I don't have a lot to go on regarding his intelligence, and I don't think anyone else has more to go on either. Most of the Mark bashing is butthurt fans. He's been a fine owner. The coaches and players could afford to do a better job.

Re: Tyree Wilson

This! A lot of the players that people keep bringing up to compare to Wilson showed potential - Mack, Miller, etc. They showed some ability that said they belong in the NFL. Wilson has been a complete waste of space up to this point. Howie Long did not start during his first season with the Silver and Black.

Shoulda cut him.

Re: Make O’Connell Active

I don't understand a lot of what goes on around here. On one hand people are calling JMD trash and blaming him for the horrible offenses and then on the other they want us to roll out a rookie who looked "OK" in preseason and throw him to the wolves against actual legit starters with the same trash HC calling the plays? You guys really think AOC is better than JimmyG? You run a 95% chance of ruining this kid's potential career if you roll him out right now. Because we know what we have in Jimmy G and this team is not a playoff team and will lose a lot of games with him this year. Why not roll with a rookie and see what he has. Maybe he sucks maybe he doesn’t, maybe he shows potential. Either way we will probably draft high so why not see if we need to draft a QB with a deep class next year or not. At this point the kid won’t have a career at all if he doesn’t play. Because we are in position to draft a QB next year, then of course he won’t get a chance then. Now is the time

Re: Tyree Wilson

3 games in still lookin like a bust The problem is that he, like Kolton Miller in 2018, is basically playing on one leg.

His foot may be healed enough that he can play in pain without risking further injury, but he's nowhere near 100%.

We're not going to see what Tyree Wilson can really do on an NFL field until 2024.

Re: Make O’Connell Active

I have been one that has said that AO NEEDS to play this season. The Raiders need to see how he looks in a regular season game. It would be beyond stupid not to get a good look at the rook before the offseason.

Unless Jimmy G is unable to go next week, I would wait. I would start to give AO much more practice time with the starters moving forward. In short, get him ready by allowing him time to build some chemistry with the starting WRs in practice.

I could be wrong, but I have a feeling that because he is an inactive each week that Hoyer is getting all of the meaningful practice time behind Jimmy G.

Given he has been third string thus far (god only knows why) I would first move him up in the pecking order for a couple of weeks before starting him and get him valuable reps with the starters in practice.

The fact that Jimmy G is in concussion protocol, gives AO the perfect opportunity to begin working with the starters, unless Josh is completely fucking brain dead and decides Hoyer is the guy who will take the lion share of the reps.

You guys really think AOC is better than JimmyG? You run a 95% chance of ruining this kid's potential career if you roll him out right now. Here's the thing, the old school "sit the QB and have him learn from the bench" has been largely proven to be bullshit over time.

In addition to that, we're not doing shit this year so I think it makes more sense to ride it out with AOC to find out if he has any real potential or not. If we lose a shitload of games with him, then we get a blue chip QB in the draft, if we win a decent amount and he looks like a winner then we can build around him.

Playing Jimmy all year only keeps us in the Carr territory of "too good to get a top QB in the draft and too bad to actually make a real playoff push". I don't know about you but I'm so fucking tired of being in football limbo. McD was supposed to fix all that with his hand picked QB who "just wins games" except he really doesn't.

Re: Well that sucked, Raider Steelers post game thread

We have got to have one of the most boring, unimaginative offenses in the league. Seems like every single year, we do no presnap motion, no eye candy, no screens, etc.. to get the ball to players in space. Just line up like the same old dumb Raiders and get smashed.

Miami just throttled the team we only put up 17 against. The Niners stomped the Steelers in the first week. Kansas City puts up ridiculous numbers ever week. Look at the style of offense they all run. They do everything in their power to utilize their players in space.

Steeler fans want to fire Matt Canada and even he looks like he runs a more competent offense than McDaniels. We are run by a pack of fools! Good post.

That is exactly what I saw. Not only a team losing but a freaken boring team losing. No imagination in scheme on offense. NONE.

A boring offensive scheme married to a very conservative approach all game = not a lot of points.

I would rather see a Raider team go down swinging. Down by 8 and you kick the field goal late in the game, that is laughable and ridiculous level conservative play call.

You guys really think AOC is better than JimmyG? You run a 95% chance of ruining this kid's potential career if you roll him out right now. The "kid" is 25 years old, and a 4th round draft pick. We're about to select in the top 10 again this year, if O'Connell isn't ready now he never will be, and we can't really afford to wait for a 25 yr old to develop. What will it take? Two years? So he'll "arrive" at the tender age of 27?

This season is lost, McDaniels should be shown the door, but that is irrelevant since we don't have control over that. The best shot we have regardless of McDaniels's future is playing O'Connell and him succeeding immediately, or playing O'Connell and him failing so miserably that we have a high enough selection to pick a true franchise Quarterback. That's the logic. You might not agree with it, but it's not lacking in common sense at all.

A couple things to note that didn't help our case.

-They picked up a flag on Fitzpatrick that was clearly a PI and would have put us on like the 3.

-Peters dropping an easy pick 6

Re: Well that sucked, Raider Steelers post game thread

How is it Renfrow's fault that he isn't being targeted? Jimmy can't get past the first read on most plays without shitting himself and our genius coach isn't scheming him open.

I'm also not really screaming for JJ's head because it's not like the guy forgot how to run the football or anything. He's playing for a contract with another team next year and intentionally doing poorly would be career suicide so that doesn't make sense. Not saying that he shouldn't be held accountable because he's certainly a part of the problem but on a lot of runs he just doesn't have anywhere to go. Josh Jacobs is being hit 3 to 5 yards in the backfield. I don't understand how people are missing it. That shit is crazy to me.

Re: Well that sucked, Raider Steelers post game thread

Where are all the mcdaniels supporters? So your calling out the McDaniels supporters yet when i called out the past regime you said stop living in the past, hmmmm is that not a little hypocritcal

I wanted a young HC at the time like DeMarco Ryans or Byron Leftwich at the time, i’m not a McDaniels fan never have been but we had no say in that. But then o never wanted Gruden either so i guess i should be picking the next HC since i was right about them sucking

I expect 3-6 wins this year because of the complete lack of talent left by Gruden & Mayock that will take years to fix no matter who is in charge

I’ve made peace with McDaniels more than likely getting a 3rd year no matter the results if he doesn't then he doesn't if he does then whatever

McDaniels is a dumb cunt. What kind of fucking idiot kicks a Fg on 4th and 4.
Minutes before that you kicked a FG then accepted the Pittsburg penalty. By accepting the penalty you become fully committed to getting 8 points you dumb fuck……but nope……he drains 2 minutes of clock….pusses out and kicks FUCKING FG??????

You can’t make this shit up. That’s Charger Staley shit it is

Re: Well that sucked Raider Steelers post game thread.

I thought this was a 6 win team before the season, after the bills game I thought maybe 3 wins, no Im seriously not sure if we can win another game this season.
The bears are our next chance, and even that is iffy.
This team has no guts, no anything. They are slow, unmotivated, weak, uncoordinated, sloppy.... and just plain bad.
I just dont know how they are THIS bad, like, lucky to win another game bad.

So my rule the past few years that has helped my football sanity a lot is, I only watch when they are .500 or better.
I think I just watched my last game for the season, and that sucks. But there is no chance they get back to .500 at any point this season, and Im not wasting away my life watching losing football, when there is a million other fun things I could/will be doing.
I will watch the stats role by on my phone from the golf course or fishing boat. They get back to .500 I drop everything and watch a game.
I will still be around to talk about Manglefoot jr. If you're not watching you might as well save your sanity and quit commenting too. I mean how can you talk about something you haven't even seen?

Re: Steelers At Raiders on SNF Game Thread

I usually don't get on coaches but he just totally mismanaged the 4th qtr. He doesn't kick the FG earlier when they have a 4th down that would have cut the deficit to . He goes for it and lose points and field position. He then make a fg with plenty of time on the clock but takes the penalty (if you do that fine, but you are all in trying to get 8 pts and the tie) only to kick a FG after draining 2 minutes off the clock. This makes the penalty on the Steelers actually a better outcome for the Steelers than the Raiders. HE definitely needs a strategy coach... just doesn't get it

Re: Steelers At Raiders on SNF Game Thread

Overall he is bad but I don’t blame him for taking the FG. If the defense had gotten a three and out we would have had plenty form ime to score the game winning touchdown. Exactly. Teams do it all the time. 3 time outs and the 2 minute warning. Defense had stopped the Steelers the last 2 drives. It was the right call. We just didnt stop them. Should have played the run tighter on the first two downs. The 3rd down conversion was just a good play by the Steelers.
