Re: Raiders select at #17 in 2021 Draft

when one does not do the research...
one makes comments like the bolded above and shows, yet again, they are wrong Broncos take a TE after taking one in the 1st round two years ago.
Clearly he doesn't follow football.

Dolphinsd taking 2 OTs in the 1st round after taking 2 OTs last year.
Clearly he does not follow football.

Raiders taking a 3rd round CB in the 1st round.
Clearly he does not follow football.

All the awards and degrees in the world do not excuse stupid.

Re: Official 2021 Free Agency Thread

We will have plenty of cap space once they get rid of a couple of guys that should really have no bearing on the direction of this team. The percentages say that Incognito's career as a starter is over. So he's on the list penciled in.

One of these 2 should be penciled in as gone, via availability: OT Brown and WR Williams.

I'd say that FS Harris should be penciled in as gone too.

There's plenty of cap there. As long as they don't trade Carr and go with Mariota, I'm probably on board.

Besides, how would it look for Cutler to come back and outplay Tua? Tank for Cutler not the right optic to draw young viewers.

Re: SuperBowl Predictions ... 2021

Would love to see the Packers beat the Bucs but don't see it happening..........AR is still great and does some amazing things but the Bucs D is substantially better imo..........Just curious as to why it seems most so far seem to have the Pack winning??? Hope you're right just curious as to why??? I did see an early line having the Pack favored by 3.5 pts Packers pass defense good enough to beat Brady and Brady doesn't run, the weakness of the Packers defense. Wind was an issue in Green Bay last week.

Hot weather teams usually lose in cold weather come playoff time. That's why home field matters in playoffs.

Snow being predicted, but no weather report on Monday is accurate for the weekend.

Correct.

Defense is only 2 starters away from functional. Possible to fix in 1 off-season.

We need Albert Haynesworth & Richard Seymour.... I keep looking for Ngakoue.

He's not on the field. In a playoff game. Playing for a new contract.

It's clear that the Ravens don't value him much.

Bills score the TD, Ngakoue no where to be found on the field... :seenoevil: :hearnoevil: :speaknoevil:

Re: Allen Robinson liked a tweet linking him to Raiders

One thing that can almost guarantee the 2 2nd year WR's don't develop fast enough is if they don't get to see the field as much because the team decided to sign a high priced FA WR with major holes on the defense and limited cap space...
Waller, Jacobs, Renfrow, Ruggs, Edwards, Moreau, and likely Agholor is seriously not enough?
It's like there's this disconnect where you are worrying about 2nd year WR's not developing fast enough yet fail to realize the team will have to force rookies or mediocre players to play starter roles on defense if enough cap space isn't made to sign good players there.

If this team makes cuts to make cap space, they will be lucky if they can sign more than one major FA signing then fill the roster with filler FA players to replace the guys they just cut to make that space. The defense is in more need of help than signing a high priced WR for that major signing. Raiders don't need Agholor.
It'd be Robinson and Ruggs starting. Crosby the short yardage specialist. Edwards the sub. As in most years, only the top 4 see many targets. The other WR names are irrelevant. Ruggs would benefit by having Robinson protecting him, as the coverages would roll towards Robinson. Ruggs job is to stretch the defense, which works because Carr has a cannon arm, and to work the sideline. Robinson would work the middle, as would the TEs and RBs.

I can't see any problem with signing Robinson, if Mayock can work it into the cap.

Re: Allen Robinson liked a tweet linking him to Raiders

I'm guessing he wants to generate interest and push his asking rate up. I doubt we'd spend the money on a guy who's similar to Waller, but doesn't play TE.

Here's the thing about Robinson. He can get open and can make tough catches, but he's a guy who's only catching 58.4% of his passes career w/ 63.9% catches in Chicago. His Yards/target is 7.7 career and 7.9 in Chicago. (13.1 yards/reception career, 12.4 Y/R in Chicago).

Waller by comparison is 73.9%/75.7% catch % career and then for the Raiders
8.7 and 9.0 yards per target
11.7 yards/reception and 11.9

Waller got 145 targets last year while Robinson had over 150 the last 2 years and in 2 years prior to that in Jacksonville. He's a volume guy who doesn't catch the ball as well as I want for a guy who sees that many targets.

Agholor for the same numbers: Philly/ raiders
59.9% / 58.5%
6.7 / 10.9 - yards per target
11.2 / 18.7 yards per reception

I'll take Agholor over Robinson for the money and especially given Robinson will likely make a lot more and given we have Waller Oh please... just stop it already.

Robinson had Mitch Trubisky passing him the ball. I saw at least 4 Bears games with Trubisky, including the playoff game. He is horribly inaccurate. Some of his misses were so bad, fans were asking how he could be a starting QB in the NFL.

Trubisky is getting let go by the Bears almost for certain. He won't be a full time starter for a playoff team ever again, because he sucks!!!!

Don't blame Robinson for having a sucky QB!

And PS - the Bears could not run the ball all season. Robinson didn't have the luxury of 1 on 1 coverage very often. No running game means to most DCs 'take away the #1 WR' to win.

I watched Robinson play. He is a stud!

Re: Mark Davis "absolute has faith in Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock"

I actually feel pretty good about this team going forward.

- We beat 3 elite teams (Chiefs, Saints, Browns.)
- We went 4-2 in the division (and were extremely close to 6-0.)
- We won 8 games when no one other team in NFL history has won more than 6 with a defense as bad as ours.

We already fired the coach that lost us games we should have won... but it remains to be seen who we get as a replacement. At least they're attempting to address our biggest weakness. You forgot Raiders went 6-2 on the road. Playoff level road record.

In his defense... Raiders finished in 2nd place and are showing improvement every year.

Re: Raiders select at #17 in 2021 Draft

Do we assume every time our first pick is called that there are always teams ringing the phone off the hook asking us to trade back? It does take 2 to trade back right? Nope.

All GM Mayock has to do to make a trade is push the trade button and get an offer. If he doesn't like the offer, he can pay $5 and push it again. There's no limit to how many times he can pay the $5 and get a different offer.

Mayock was too lazy and too cheap to get a good trade offer.

In his prime when he was healthy (like Henry) Earl Campbell never rand out of gas. And they could really hit back then. That Earl Campbell-Jack Tatum collision on the goal line might be the hardest one ever.

Now this was a run. Of course he would be penalized for targeting. Us old timers remember this...

https://youtu.be/F9y_KZwOq9g Henry not Earl Campbell. If the Raiders would have had Campbell, they would have beat the Steelers and Dolphins in the playoffs.

Of course Ginger would have time to fool around with a dick...

Wow! Horrible 1st quarter INT by Ravens "passing HB" Lamar Jackson.

Should be an NFL rule that if your QB can't hit the broad side of a barn at 50 yards... then he isn't allowed to be called a "QB."

Man I LOVED watching the bills during that 90s run. So many great players on offense, defense and special teams. It is still unbelievable to me they didnt win a super bowl Kelly played in the 'other' league.

Bad Manning 'won' 2 Super Bowls, same as his brother Peyton, despite being 1/2 as good.

Strangely bizarre how the NFL seems to get what it wants.

A mediocre defense would have got us an 11-5 record or better Why stop there?

A better HC would have gotten us an 11-5 record.

A better owner would have gotten us an 11-5 record.

Kalil Mack would have gotten us an 11-5 record.

Fans in the new stadium would have gotten us an 11-5 record.

Mariota at QB would have gotten us an 11-5 record.

Unbiased refs would have gotten us an 11-5 record.

Still playing home games in Oakland would have gotten us an 11-5 record.

No pandemic would have gotten us an 11-5 record.

Re: Raiders select at #17 in 2021 Draft

I'm Excited, but after this year.... so disappointed! Hoping, Praying They hire a competant DC! and have a clear understanding of what this team is & needs,

Its a unique year to say the least, wit the cap not rising, and no fans in the stands( no income), so they will be some surprising cuts.I really hope Gruden can temper himself, restrain against grabbing up offensive players that become availble in FA & the draft. I worry he wont get "checked" and wont be able to resist drafting a Tight end or Wide Receiver if a good one is available in Aprils Draft!

there will be an offseason (Training Camp) with all of the injuries & Covid19 outs during the season it was hard to get a good evaluation on the rookies & Abram. Although he kind of showed a lot of his Flaws more than any strengths!

I cant stand when they keep drafting the same position over & over without developing the talent thats already on the team! IE: cornerback & reciever, but Gruden loves to operate out of the Department of Redundancy Dept! How many tight ends are they gonna stockpile this off season?

I regret we missed out on a really good LB prospect (Murray) Last draft because they were so worried about the WR CB positions. When they already had Agholar! and shouldve had a CB( hayden or conely) but PG never developed them!

I really wish we get a DC that can "check" Grudens impulses. Since the Defense is Sooo Bad! Someone with a Strong enough Personality to challenge Gruden or smart enough to design a Def. with what tools he's given. if not they are destned to shore up the Sh*tshow, with high priced "Alphas"in FA

I can totally see them Drafting a tight end or O-lineman or reciever or Etienne RB! Just because its Grudens team now. Totally F*ing over the New DC. but I guess we'll see who we pick up in FA! ^^^ hurt my eyes to read the original post. So, I fixed it. No charge.

Re: Watson or Carr

I'll answer any questions that I can. :astonished:

Why would Watson want to play for the Raiders???

Why would the Texans trade Watson to an AFC team that might make the playoffs in 2021 or 2022?

The only AFC that might be in the market is the Jags, as they have the 1st draft pick and Watson is better than Lawrence. And the Jags aren't 1 year away, even with Watson.

It will be an NFC team who trades for him.

Next question.

Re: Should we switch to a 3-4 Defense?

Ivan, what’s your assessment of Gruden as a coach? What do think about his stance on sticking with 4-3 and not being more open minded? HC decides. OC and DC run whatever the HC wants.

The problem isn't Gruden, it's fan opinion... some want Philipps and don't give a damn what Gruden thinks.

And, besides, the team has been stocked to run a 4-3.
Ferrell is a 4-3 DE.
Crosby is a 4-3 DE and has no position in a 3-4.
The team has exactly 3 competent LBs on the roster, as it uses 2 LBs or less most of the time.

None of the talking heads are screaming that the Raiders defensive personnel are better suited for a 3-4. Not that it matters.

Changing to a 3-4 requires another season of tanking. Do you want to throw away another season? Raiders have already tanked 3 seasons with Carr at QB. Do you hate Carr that much to screw him over 1 more time?

Re: Defensive Coordinator Search Thread (Raiders Hope to Speak with Gus Bradley)

Again, You are confused. Nobody gives a shit whether we are 3-4 or 4-3. I most certainly don’t. The issue is that Gruden seems to approach this search with the 4-3 in mind that limits the pool of candidates and potentially does not put out players in a position that optimizes their skills. No, you are confused.

Gruden runs the show. Gruden plays a 4-3. It works, as the Raiders beat the Chiefs in KC and the Saints at home using it.

Fans are crying for big name DCs who use a 3-4... and because Gruden doesn't want those big name 3-4 DCs, the fans have rationalized that DCs get to decide the scheme and those fans want a big name 3-4 DC and don't care about what players are already under contract.

If you plan on cutting the starting 11 defensive players and starting over (and you probably want it) then of course you don't care which scheme the DC uses.

One giant fan issue here on this board is that, because the current 4-3 sucked at times, part of the problem is that the players would do better in a 3-4.

It's not reality. It's fans blindly raging against the status quo.

PS - the Raiders have exactly 3 competent LBs on the entire roster. 3. Not 6 or 7. 3.

Where are you going to get 3 more competent LBs to play a 3-4? And what are you going to do with Crosby? Fan favorite, there's no place in a 3-4 defense for him.
