Right now I dont want Rodgers. Two 1st round picks plus the $$ he will make. Let him go to the Jets....

Re: Derek Carr - Official Merger Thread

Carr turned douche back in 2017 when he defied coaching and played for his own self preservation. He told them he was going to play how he wanted. At the end of the year, he sealed the deal saying he accomplished one of his goals, not to get hurt. This explained the whole switch to short passing, rarely extending plays and checking down prematurely. After than his head starting growing exponentially and he really starting letting the douche out. Not a scientific opinion but I think Carr just crumbles under expectations. Playoff talk before the season starts seems to ruin him. 17 and 22 were by far his worst seasons imo and both coincidentally followed playoff appearances.

Re: Derek Carr - Official Merger Thread

Should have remained at one page! 999 pages of meh! lol Yes, I am looking forward to the day when he is no longer a Raider. Then this and other Carr news can be shuffled to another page not dealing with the Raiders.

But cannot blame those that want to get in their parting shots. We have suffered with that fraud and some need to get things of their chest and can't blame them....I be one of them. :)

Re: Who do you want as starting QB in ‘23. Poll included.

$30 mill this year, not $50. What Rodgers costs for a year isn't the issue. It's what he actually costs once all the cap hits come through. He's essentially either one year for about $60 million or two years for $110. You can kick the cap impact down the road a lot and the cap hit for 2023 can be just $16 million, but it will come due in future years. He does have two cheaper years after 2024, but those are cheap enough that he'll never play for those salaries without a raise.

$55+ million a year for a guy coming off a year with a significant drop in performance? No thanks. It might be tempting for a team like the Jets that already has a top defense but there are too many questions for the Raiders to make an all-in short term move like that.

Re: Derek Carr - Official Merger Thread

We have to go defense, defense, defense in the draft this year. We can get three starters instantly and spend some money on competent O linemen. We need to get better at corner, ILB and interior defensive line. I think we can roll with Stidham for a year if we create a competent defense. Stidham has a lot of potential and with a full offseason and camps of getting first team reps, he can be the guy, again, at least for a year.

My favorite line from this article:

 BB is definitely trolling the Jets.
The Patriots defense double teaming the check down is all you need to know about how he views Carr.

Re: Who do you want as starting QB in ‘23. Poll included.

They have to come up off Love. They can't trade Rogers. Love has seen Tua lead the league in QB rating until he got hurt. Herbert made the playoffs. Hurts is in the AFC championship and Burrow is in position to get to his 2nd SB. You think Love is going to sit there quietly for an unprecedented 4th year affixed to the bench? This is insanity! Make an offer, Raiders! A 2nd and a 5th.

https://cheeseheadtv.com/blog/the-packers-have-some-tough-choices-ahead-on-jordan-love-516 Why trade a 2nd and 5th for a QB that was overdrafted at the time and will be expensive soon.

Might as well just draft a QB.

Not against trading for Love but wouldn't want to use anything more then a 4th!

Re: Derek Carr - Official Merger Thread

OK fellas, hearing ramped up talk about the Patriots pulling the trigger. Hoodie, as we all know, is not married to his picks and has been known to trade first day picks a lot. He sees the QB position as the stumbling block and a game ready now Carr is being seriously talked about inside their walls. I can just see Carr balled up on the floor of the team meeting room in the fetal position, crying the first time Belichick rips him in front of the team. The media in Boston won’t give him any passes either.

Re: Derek Carr - Official Merger Thread

IF Carr is smart, he will do everything to help the Raiders in a trade and if so, he will be making 40 million a year...give or take a few million given his present contract.

I definitely do not see Carr willing to take a huge cut in pay. Right, I don't buy that he will make more on the open market and I can't believe people are saying this. Incentives? Yes, but years and guaranteed money? Why would a team do that?

Re: Derek Carr - Official Merger Thread

Dilfer didn’t make much money with the Ravens and take up a significant proportion of their cap. By all accounts Carr is set to either maintain his current contract or get a huge payday, even though he’s only worthy of an Andy Dalton level deal. EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!! When you pay an average QB elite money, your ability to keep all your toys on D dissipates.

Any comparison to Carr and Dilfer makes me laugh. Dilfer was cheap and allowed a team to win simply by building a dominate D. Any team Carr goes to.....he will require a VERY good OL or he will become less effective and he will need really good offensive weapons...or he will be less effective. We have all seen it. He needs mounds of talent around him to be average. So how does a team get that and still keep their D?????

In short, without a good OL and good offensive weapons, Carr becomes I believe a below average QB AND still eating up mounds of cap.

Carr is not winning anything, no matter where he goes. Wherever he goes that team will become at best average.

Re: Who do you want as starting QB in ‘23. Poll included.

Do you guys who want Brady think he won't eat up all the Carr dollars?

I'd take him if he came at 10 mil or less with no future cap dollars eaten up like the Bucs have to now deal with. I doubt he'd do that.

I don't think he propels the Raiders past the Chiefs let alone wins a SB with the Silver and Black. That is my problem with Brady also.

The Raiders need the cap money to help build the D. The offense has its weapons, so now, it is time for the GM to find a gem of a QB on the cheap that can make it work. The D requires so much work, that it will require resources in both free agency and the draft to get it done. And call me silly, but I think the Raiders have that QB in Stiddy. He is a real scrapper who does not appear to have any quit in him. Does he need work? Of course. IF they like a QB in this draft then they should go out and get him or wait till next year. But at the helm, I would be happy with Stiddy and a much improved D next season.

I think that recipe gets the Raiders in the best situation next year and in moving forward.

Getting Brady shores up the QB position but leaves the team with too many holes to really go for it all and well, does very little to nothing for building a team that can compete the year after. It is only a move that slows down Z's ability to build this team into eventual contenders.

Re: Derek Carr - Official Merger Thread

I'm not saying they are. But all they have to do is get to the playoffs and us miss the playoffs again for the Carr fans to go nuts. Even if his #s aren't great. I am eager if he does go to NY and they miss the playoffs again what the excuses will be though. I understand what you mean. Derek will have checked out several games before the playoffs. But he'll have enough stats from the first few that it MUST be someone else's fault, and the battle of the fan base begins. I see it already in their forums, and he's not even on the team yet. :loltears:

I don't believe Carr will ever win anything meaningful, even with the Jets. That's becoming a tough division, especially if Tua can stay healthy in MIA, the Bills D will terrify him twice a year, the Pats won't stay down for long, and BB knows how to make him his bitch. I'd also bet a beer Derek would veto any trade offer to NY.

Re: Derek Carr - Official Merger Thread

I'd bet a beer he's released. I just don't see anyone taking on that contract + giving up draft picks, even if they see him as "above average". I could be wrong though, and would happily buy somebody a beer if we get some return for the lemon. Be nice to rip somebody else off for a change.

I'm just glad he's fucking gone. No more media images of that pussified bitch as the face of this franchise. My face hurts from the perma-smile.

PS, if you want to collect that beer, meet me at Arrowhead in '23 BABY!!!

To be fair Mad Maxx at the end of the season pretty much came out and said the same thing. Said he wants people on the team who want to be great. Could prob mame three or four players on the raiders who actually care that much. Carr, Maxx, Jacobs, and Devante. Only 3 of those 4 you mentioned, leave it all on the field though.

Our IOL got wrecked when we played KC. I’m not holding one game against a QB with only 2 starts. If we role with Stidham we have a good chance of filling gaping holes across our roster. If we luck out and he delivers we are in way better shape going forward. If he ends up being just a backup level talent then address the need next year.

Someone had to say it.

He made a ton of mental errors against the chiefs. He’s a backup for a reason. Not saying you are wrong but I find it again very amusing that the book is closed on one guy after 2 games while the same folks closing said book were still arguing for the other chump after 9 years.

Am I the only one that wants to go with Stidham and a rookie? I'd love to see what he can do with time to prepare and build chemistry with the offense. Plus the rookie needs time to learn the McDaniels lingo.

Lol we can provide a long list of QBs better than Carr. I guess that makes us "fanboys" of 2/3 of the QBs in the league.

As for that game... wow. I crashed about halftime thinking the Bolts had it in the bag. Jag receivers were getting NO separation. Bolts secondary was swarming. WTF happened? Lol The Chargers, Chargered. That's what happened. The Jags don't go quietly.
