Late to the conversation, but unless there were health issues, I just don't understand cutting Hurst.

That said, it looks like he is still available - so much like draft day, those heart issues must have really scared off teams.

Did I read a rumor that Hurst failed a physical? Jerry McDonald once said that "failed a physical" is almost always code for "we don't want him anymore but are being nice about it." By the time someone's played a few years in the NFL, he'll have enough physical problems that anyone could legitimately flunk him on a physical. If a team wants to overlook whatever-it-is and pass the player, it will.

Let's get one thing straight - the COVID excuse is nothing more than a thinly veiled disguise for their real vendetta. The NFL mitigated COVID last year as effectively as any employer on the planet. These players had access to daily tests (not to mention when testing was much harder to come by in the early stages of this pandemic), and world class health treatment. By all accounts, I cannot think of a safer environment than what was provided to them. Now, in Clark County, the vaccines (Pfizer, Moderna) are accessible immediately to every single player on this roster, regardless of age. I've had both vaccine shots to date, couldn't be an easier process with the litany of sites available.

No, no. COVID concerns are a ruse. This is about pushback for the 17th game. The players / NFLPA are upset (even though they ironically agreed to this in the current CBA), and are feigning COVID concerns instead of calling it what it is - a move to spite the owners.

The counter argument to that is, "Well, they're voluntary, so this is a decision they can make." True.

But that doesn't mean fans have to like the decision. This is a team that has suffered through 2 decades of misery. This is a team that not only had a historically bad defense last season, but they now must try to improve this defense when learning a new defensive scheme from a new defensive coach. Let's not pretend that they wouldn't benefit from the extra time with the coaching staff, on the field. How many times did we have to listen to Gruden parrot the same excuse last year during press conferences? "Well, this is a young team that didn't have the benefit of a real offseason. And that hurt." So should we expect the same excuse this year? We saw first hand how well "virtual" learning translated to on the field performance - it was a mess.

So yes, this decision bothers me. It bothers me because it's insulting to our intelligence to pawn this decision off on COVID when, in reality, that's not the case. It bothers me because they have so much they need to improve upon, but decided it's more prevalent to make their case to the owners that they aren't happy. Practices, OTA's, etc are a far cry from what they used to be. Two-a-days and daily padded practices are a thing of the past, and I get that. But for a fledgling team that needs all the help they can get, this seems very shortsighted.

Ohio woman arrested over an April Fools' Day text about a possible active shooter

A 57-year-old woman was arrested Thursday after an apparent April Fools' Day joke about a possible active shooter at the manufacturing plant where she works in Springfield, Ohio, the local sheriff's office.
Pamela Sisco was at the Navistar plant when she texted her sister that a man who had been fired the day before had returned with a gun and they were all hiding in locked offices, Clark County Sheriff's Office Maj. Christopher D. Clark said in a statement.
Sisco's sister called authorities at 11:44 a.m. She told the dispatcher she was afraid to text her sister back if they were hiding, CNN affiliiate WHIO reported.

Clark said they scrambled law enforcement to the plant from multiple agencies.

"Every available unit, to include our surrounding villages and townships, responded to the scene and the first Deputy made entry into the facility at 11:46 AM," Clark said.

Law enforcement units checked the facility and found Sisco, who admitted "she sent the text message to her sister as an 'April Fool's Joke,'" Clark said. "No threat of any kind was found to be inside the plant."
Sisco has been charged with "inducing panic and disrupting public service," the statement said, but charging documents were not available.

"Ms. Sisco placed a lot of people in harm's way this morning over a stupid April Fool's Joke," Clark said.

It is not clear whether Sisco has retained an attorney at this time.

If grown men who are being paid millions of dollars strike because they have to play 3 more hours of a game many of us would give a finger to still play, that will be it for me. I will have to be done as a fan at that point.
Im an absolute football fanatic, if I feel that way I know others do too. At this point its already 90% politics 10% football anyway.
I hate the idea of 17 games, its an uneven number and its going to be weird to schedule and be "fair", which will of course be the catalyst for an 18 games season where teams are sitting their starters for 3 weeks.
Greed just fucks everything all the time.
