Carr has a crap wonderlic and has expressed such views as not throwing a hail mary when its covered. He can learn presnap reads but saying he is smart is stretching it.manucru wrote Sun Apr 15, 2018 6:54 pm:Carr is smart

No problem. I did like your take on Carr and Gruden. He sees the QB that he can become and he thinks he can lead him there. It will be fun to watch.manucru wrote Sun Apr 15, 2018 8:23 pm:Thanks Jeevo, my bad, jehrydsuki.

The wonderlic is a bunch of bullshit though big difference between test smarts & football smarts, Dan Marino & Randall Cunningham scored a 15 whereas Jamarcus Russell scored a 24 & Ryan Leaf scored a 27kinz wrote Sun Apr 15, 2018 8:30 pm:Carr has a crap wonderlic and has expressed such views as not throwing a hail mary when its covered. Views on the wonderlic aside, the claim was that Carr is smart. I don't see him as dumb, but I think that intelligence is not one of his best traits. Some of his interviews have revealed very strange thoughts.RunDMLee wrote Sun Apr 15, 2018 9:15 pm:The wonderlic is a bunch of bullshit though big difference between test smarts & football smarts, Dan Marino & Randall Cunningham scored a 15 whereas Jamarcus Russell scored a 24 & Ryan Leaf scored a 27
They need to replace that teat with something football related like analysing plays or reacting to coverages that way you could get a better read on a player

Someone posted a video analysis of Oliver about 8 days ago. The dude claims that Oliver is the best CB in this draft as he has no weaknesses. But not a single mock I have seen has him in the top ten.ELCAraiderfan wrote Sun Apr 15, 2018 6:11 pm:Just saw a mock with us taking Colorado CB, Isiah Oliver with our #10 pick. would be interesting, what does all the analytical data say about this guy?

Brett Kollmenn. You Tube review calls him the best CB in the draft.RunOverByHubbard wrote Sun Apr 15, 2018 9:21 pm:Someone posted a video analysis of Oliver about 8 days ago. Well, we’ll know in 11 days won’t we.

Doug Martin is a stud?manucru wrote Sun Apr 15, 2018 10:40 pm:Raidernation24,
I also like RB Penny. He is legit. I would love to get him, but RB is not one of our pressing needs this year. Would be great to have him learn from our 2 stud vets, then take over the following year.

I love the certainty some folk say "you got to take the best player available" - the problem is nobody knows who this is, we are talking about humans not robots, and it is very subjective, hence the disagreements and discussions that every team/fan faces. It's what makes the draft so goodmranquales » Sun Apr 15, 2018 11:58 pm
Best player on the board doesn't fly when we already have a HOF talent that needs help. We don't have time to gamble. The only pro-bowl talent in the whole draft is S, OT, LB, DT. There are no CB's that look anything more than starters. If we aren't taking James, we should take Vea. Edmunds shouldn't be picked unless Bowman doesn't sign.signal wrote Sun Apr 15, 2018 7:32 am:
I of a mind that the Raiders should take the best player on the board - if when they are choosing, they see a player that is a better prospect than the rest...than you take him (outside of a QB). If you begin reaching to fill this position or that position - chances are you may pass on 'probowl prospect' in order to find a 'starter' for a position. Hopefully the Raiders will not be picking in the top ten for many years and I think now that they have the opportunity, the Raiders should do their best to find that player who can be a difference maker on the field - a probowl player.
Three years down the road, when we look back at this draft, we will be evaluating the player chosen at 10 - not by how well he filled a need in the 2018 season but rather if he has become a difference maker or not. Plus, the Raiders have 11 picks in the draft and can fortify positions and needs throughout the draft.
Plus it can be argued, that most every position on the team is in need of an upgrade so not sure why immediate need should be determining factor when they pick instead of who is the best damn player available.

I shared said video, because it does a great job breaking down how Oliver uses his elite length to his advantage, whilst also exhibiting excellent technique and football IQ. I also loved the comparison to NnamdiRunOverByHubbard wrote Sun Apr 15, 2018 9:21 pm:Someone posted a video analysis of Oliver about 8 days ago. You would use a 1st draft pick @10 on a QB when we have a QB 1 year removed from MVP running, which fell short due to a freak injury.
That is a wasted pick, unless you think Barkley is MVP material in the span Carr developed to be. That's a huge leap of faith.
We have our QB, otherwise like you stated before, Gruden would not have come to the Raiders.
Carr is exactly the QB Gruden loves. Carr is smart, has a quick release, and studies like no body's business, and comes to work as early as Gruden.
Gruden sees Carr as his Gannon, with an arm!
Carr comes to Gruden with the same characteristics as Gannon, with two exceptions:
Carr has already played at MVP level prior to Gruden.
Carr has a gun of an arm.
This marriage of Gruden and Carr is something which will be, IMHO, amazing!
