My question is, with Gruden not being allowed to talk to the players yet, all he can do is watch tape. When watching Roberts last season, aside from his effort and run blocking, what can you possibly watch that says “hey, we have to keep this guy!”?
Perhaps Gruden looked at more than just last year? I couldn't really care less either way but the hate towards the guy seems irrational to me. Especially based off of last year. Literally everyone on offense took steps backwards last year. Every WR had issues with drops. Every WR had issues with route running or being on the same page as Carr.

If I had to guess, Roberts is probably viewed as a great character/locker room guy who still has potential to grow. Prior to last year he was also known to be a good downfield blocker and would make clutch catches. The timing of the extension was a head scratcher, but he's here, no reason for some to freak out about it IMO.

Definitely agree that we should still be drafting a WR or two. The cupboard is pretty bare behind Coop and Nelson.

I never felt all warm and fuzzy about Roberts when we were having our good season. I felt he did some good that caused many to forget about the huge warts in his game. So I disliked him even when that was a no no and got you a death sentence.

It is not Roberts fault that he is the #3 WR on our depth chart. So while yes I do hate that he is our #3 I do not hate him for it. Now since we weren't able to upgrade from him in FA my hope is we are able to draft a WR that allows us to move him down the depth chart where he is now suitable. If not I will stay hate he weren't able to upgrade him but still not hate him.

Everyone took a step back but at least at times Cooper and Crabs had some great games and made some big plays. Having Roberts on the field was actually detrimental to the team with his dumb play...

Edger Bennett thinks he can coach Seth up. I hope he can.

Most hated player ... an UDFA that made practice squad, next year made the team, and in 3 years has turned in about 400-500 receiving yards a year and 11 TDs. Played through 2 hernias in for I think all of 2016. I don't recall him missing a game. Caught 66% of his targets this year. Never in trouble. Great blocker. Could be faster, too many penalties, a bad fumble this year.

Ro, Jamarcus, Jihad, Amerson, why should Seth be most hated raider ever?

Weird to me. Genuine witch hunt.

Contract aside...

I hate Seth as our #3. I love Seth as our #4. Big difference to me, and I don't mind him on the team as he seems to be a hard worker and a good guy. But we could certainly use an upgrade as our #3, which is basically a starter in today's NFL.

I agree with you. However, it really comes down to the following. Spending Bowman;s money in FA, using a second for a guy to push Seth down the depth chart this year, or using a 3rd/4th for one to push him down next year, or a 6th for a replacement down the road. Of course, can get lucky and hit with a 6th right away, can also use a 2nd and have the guy not beat out seth.

Personally, I use the 4th and a 6th a WR, get a guy that can return kicks and punts, and cut Patterson. Next year I cut seth unless he plays well this year.

Apparently he is one of Reggie's guys. Well, we have one more year to watch him flounder and take up a valuable roster spot. He needs to get his act together or I am sure he will be benched during the season and/or gone after the season.

Finally some news you can sink your sharpened anti-Reggie teeth into. Go for it. You clearly are a better judge of football players than the Raiders staff.

I officially crown this thread the Reggie hate thread for the weekend. Have at it because he might make another move that you can’t dump on by Monday sometime. Line up whiners.

Oh and rest assured that Gruden and Reggie failed to evaluate the situation and just wanted to throw away money. They didn’t look at available FA WRs and who would be a wise middle round draft choice in what is a weak WR draft. They didn’t play out the first three rounds of the draft and see how their defense and offensive linen could be improved. They just told Mark Davis to get out the checkbook and throw $2 million at what some of you think is the worst WR the Raiders have had in 30 years. Yup.

Apparently we couldn't find anyone in FA to play better than Seth. I think we will use a 6th on a WR (maybe a 2nd too). Lets see if that 6th takes snaps from Seth. The second will, doubt the 6th will.

Seth lives in the slot - where both Cooper and Jordy have excelled. I think we are a better team with our WR3 being a guy who lives on the outside. And Seth doesn't play ST at all, so if he's not WR3 then he has no value to the team at all - I think that keeping him is a real mistake unless they can turn him into an outside WR.

Here's a story on Cooper in the slot, and it also has contrasting results from Seth in it:
