The reason is simple it has not been Carr's fault and the Falcons would be foolish to dump Ryan he has a few good years left.GUYDON wrote Wed Apr 07, 2021 4:43 pm:Matt Ryan has had 5 double digit win seasons and is 21 games over .500 with 10 playoff games under his belt.
Carr has had 1 double digit winning season and is 16 games below .500 and 0 playoff games played.
THAT is why atl is still starting Ryan, but there is a lot of talk about atl starting their QB search.
Carr is VERY unique. No other team in the nfl would allow 1 winning season in 8 years from a qb and not make a change.

That's my least favorite rule in football. If you fumble it at the one inch, it's at the one inch line. If you fumble it one inch inside the end zone, it's a turnover. It's a dumb rule.RaiderandBulldog wrote Wed Apr 07, 2021 7:13 pm:I thought you people wanted him to do things like dive for the pylon?

Especially when you can't legally fumble the ball forward. Absolutely agree. This needs revisitedtactician wrote Wed Apr 07, 2021 9:03 pm:That's my least favorite rule in football. Remember when people said Carr could not throw deep? yeah that was never true.Willmark » Thu Apr 08, 2021 3:39 am
1. This franchise had decades of blame yo go around and Carr is part of it. As is every player since 1986 when the rot of the team began.BobbyPhil1781 wrote Tue Apr 06, 2021 7:28 pm:Bc you're seemingly assuming blame to Carr for the failures of the 2020 team. You said you want the 2016 version of Carr but the 2020 version was arguably better with a worse supporting cast.
Regardless, what I said is still valid. Do you find it easier to play and succeed if you don't have to score over 30 PPG to win? Do you find it easier to succeed if the defense forces turnovers? Do you find it easier to succeed with better field position?
Can we find a common ground that the offense has a better chance of succeeding if those items are true? Answer that. I have a feeling you'll say "yes" bc the other answer is beyond wrong. Well beyond.
Defense was:
29th in YPD
31st in PPD
29th in TOPD
Among many other terrible stats.
So, we can conclude the offenses job was substantially harder due to the inadequacies on the defense. Putting things into context, I'd say our offense, and Carr did pretty damn well last year but feel free to add context to your opinion and offer a rebuttal. I'm all ears/eyes.
It's a team sport and each side of the ball has a direct effect on the other.
Carr had awful games last year, there's no doubting that but they are easily the exception to the rule which can't be said about previous years but those are in the past. I like current stuff.

So now it's the rule books fault that Derek fumbled the balk into the endzone......?twice.Chiefhater » Thu Apr 08, 2021 5:00 am
He reads a defense pre snap very well. Also comes into play in the running game.KillerRaider30 wrote Thu Apr 08, 2021 4:08 am:Can someone tell us what Derek Carr does well?
What does he excel at as QB?
Serious answers please.

Mariota never had continuity. 4 DCs in 5 years. Never had an o-line. He played through injury, particularly in his latter days in TEN. Still went to the playoffs twice. Excuses could be made for Marcus too, but those are reserved for someone else.BobbyPhil1781 wrote Wed Apr 07, 2021 10:35 am:"Starting caliber" is certainly a questionable way to describe Mariota. He got benched and his offense, that he couldn't do a damn thing w/, absolutely blew up. He was the only thing that changed and he was already on the cusp of being benched anyway, plus he's made of glass. I would suggest his best year was a result of continuity in the coaching staff and actually getting a good team around him which he really hasn't had since 2017.
Very ugly game by Carr in Atlanta. Absolutely. Again though, as pointed out, the offensive line was horrendous this game and I believe he averaged less than 2 seconds to get rid of the ball and what QB can succeed w/ that type of pressure? Mahomes couldn't either in the SB. I bet it's happened but on a consistent basis? I'd like to see evidence though if you have it. You can certainly call this an "excuse" but it's extremely valid.
There were many games last year where his pocket awareness was fantastic. Look at game recap threads for evidence.
Don't disagree but the point of bringing up this game and the Dolphins was you said he lacks effort and seemingly mails it in when feeling adversity. I didn't see that when watching the Jet's game or Dolphin's game and in fact, saw the opposite. The defense in Miami gives up 140 yards and 10 points in like 4 plays or something stupid like that and he lead us in position to win that game, twice. He didn't lose his fight. He didn't crumble like you said he does and they had a pretty good defense. Same w/ the Jets game. All the reason in the world to quit but he didn't and we won the game. I just asked where this "lack of effort" was last year b/c I didn't see much of it.
Cool, don't really care if you feel I'm crazy. I prefer proven commodities over a bucket of potential. RGIII loves you and will be sending you a Christmas card this year. Herbert was also wildly inconsistent at Oregon so don't be shocked if it happens.
That's fine, I don't believe it's his strongest either but he did show much better awareness at times this year. Point is, w/ terrible protection, you can't expect anyone to succeed.
A huge problem but he's done that one time over his career. The EXTREME exception to the rule.
Why are people running routes that are short? If the guys are covered past, why not give them a shot? This is more of a play calling thing. I would also prefer the ball not be forced and turned over as a result but that's just me.
How often does this happen?
Again, one time. This happened one time. There are countless examples of him doing the opposite. You have a very, very clear agenda harping on the exception to the rule.
I don't have a huge gripe w/ this b/c I don't want my QB to get hit, whoever that is. I can see why people would complain though.
Anything this year that provides lack of effort, heart, and desire to win? I've suggested a lot to say the opposite is true but maybe you saw something I didn't.
Everyone can do better except the Chiefs. Not really anything to write home about. We can do far more worse than we can do better. Carr also, definitely saw that pressure against Atlanta which you've referenced quite a bit as well as NE.... but he did against KC, the game we won in Aarowhead, so pick your poison.
