Every site seems to use the 2 year money, failing to mention that the $3 million first year hit is low, and when the higher hit kicks in the cap will almost certainly be much higher. Also bitching about moving out 3 large, 1 very large, O line contracts while at the same time saying the cap moves are not understandable seems off.
Yes, not sure why everyone is so convinced the Drake signing was a bad thing. They all seem to think he is the second RB and they are mistaken. I don't think Gruden will be using him just to spell Jacobs. Raiders see this guy as a legit offensive weapon. Remains to be seen if it will work out that way, but if it pans out, it could be a really good move.

It's because however you cut it they paid a backup or 1b RB 8.5 mil guaranteed on a 2 year contract. Just because they kicked the can down the road so that 5.5 mil guaranteed will be paid out in 2022 doesn't make it cheaper.

It's not like the Raiders figured out some magic formula, it's 8.5 mil guaranteed.
The team won't feel it now but will feel it in 2022 when it's time to try to sign FA's or extend others. If the cap goes up in 2022 so will the price of FA's and the cost of re-signing players.

Teams pay 1 guy more than we pay 2 so we didn't have to invent anything really.

I’m fine with the free agents and happy they didn’t seem to break the bank on commodities...

But good lord the secondary still looks so, so weak. I really thought, once the season ended, we’d never see the likes of Lawson and Keisean Nixon again. Now it seems like both may return. It was one of the weakest groups in the entire NFL and nothing has changed to this point. Scary.

Well, the reason why the other guy is cheaper is because he's on a rookie deal and was drafted with a 1st round pick. Not many teams spend a 1st rounder on a RB then decide to pay the back up 8.5 mil guaranteed but who cares right? The cap will go up in 2022....

We'll get 2 years at a reasonable price for 1a and 1b before we need to make a decision. Many teams pay their top 2 more than us so again, don't see a big problem here. Besides Jacobs hasn't been the model of health his first 2 seasons and insurance at the position in this offense seems okay to me.

Hopefully we will trade jalen richard for something, then maybe just grab an udfa rb after the draft.

Julian Edelmam says he is retired but Tom will get him to join the Bucs.

Edelman's knee is shot. Tampa has better options.

I guess Richard Sherman is still out there. Despite having serious skills and a great mind for playing the position, I sure hope he does not sign with the Raiders as he gets burned deep a lot the last two years and is starting to be dinged up too.

It's just because it's the Raiders.

I get putting too much resources in the RB position but Drake has the speed to take it to the house which is what this offense is really missing and Gruden gets his guy that's pro ready who can block, run routes etc..

Put it this way, if Hudson was on Arizona and Gruden traded a 3rd for him and gave him a big extension to come to the Raiders the narrative would have been "why would you trade a 3rd for 32 year old center who the team was going to cut anyway and then give him a huge extension" but since Arizona made the move, it's pretty much seen as a great move by anyone associated with the NFL.

I'm still hoping for Casey Hayward.
