Mack looked legit from day 1. So did Charles Woodson, so did Nnamdi (although not superstar level), So did Tim Brown.

I don't subscribe to the ideology that great players look like dog water until year 3-5, you should see flashes from great players immediately.
If you adjust your claim to only include players who were at least age 22 during their rookie seasons and played at least 3 full college seasons...

I'd probably agree.

But now they are still age 20 and haven't played 2 full seasons. It's apples to oranges comparison. Yes, they are all fruits (the apples and oranges).

Get a DT and watch the guy perform , or kick him inside and see if he wants to eat. As a number four pick that's not problamatic will want to eat at some point. He hear's the whispers. I would like to add.

Pryor, Conley, and Arnette. I know some think Ohio State is a big deal around the Country, but if the Raiders go near any player from that Univ I'm going to be seriously pissed. The whole lot are big fish in a small town that folds under the hot NFL lights, and if you flip the page past Orlando Pace there's nothing but turd reading minus one or two ever since.

GUYDON wrote Mon Apr 05, 2021 9:07 am:It wasn't a mistake, because they drafted him there on purpose. They knew he wasnt a superstar, they were looking for a guy that would get to year 3 and start having steady production for the next 10 years. And he might just be that.
He is never going to be a star, but I think he will have a few stand out years, maybe even a pro bowl or 2, come year 7 or 8. I think he will turn out to be an important part of the defense, instead of a football playing Jesse, Ferrell is more of a steady Eddie.
You think Ferrell will still be on this team in 10 years? Lol at least you have optimism.

Ferrel hasn't shown greatness, but he has shown competence, and if he can continue to grow he will have been a good pickup.

Let's see how he does this year. We've had three years of Arden Key getting every fair chance the world to make a good impression, so giving Ferrel the same chance only makes sense. I feel safe in saying that Ferrel isn't going to be a primary contributor in allowing another team to come back and tie the game with 19 seconds left at kickoff.

Ferrell improved from year one to year two and the defense was better when he was there.

So there is that.

Ferrell is a decent player.

If you want to shit on him because you think you should get more out of a #4 overall, go for it. I'm not changing my view of him and I'm not going to shit on him because John and Mayock reached on him.

He's a good guy and he's professional.

People for all teams do this. They crap on a productive player for something they didn't have control of. They didn't draft themselves

Here's the deal. Ferrell fits what the Raiders were looking for in him.

I am happy to have him. I want him to play the maximum number of snaps that his body can handle. I don't want to bench him. I don't want to trade him.

I want a DE on the other side to help him do his job. Crosby played nearly every damn snap and did Ferrell no favors by getting pushed around and giving up outside contain. Crosby is a specialist.

The guy we signed, Ngakoue, isn't likely to be the answer to fixing the DE spot opposite Ferrell. Ngakoue is a specialist, and he has the same weaknesses as Crosby. Ngakoue will get his sacks if he gets used properly, but Ferrell will wish for another DE opposite him.

There you have it. Don't complain about Ferrell. Give him some help!

I like Ferrell, would be super happy it he turns out to be a star. But Im also find if he is just a well rounded role player that is dependable for the next 6 years. The team way over drafted him, that isnt his fault. He is what he is.

Great, then he should go start and run charity foundations. He was drafted 4th out of all those people to play and BE a 4th pick. He hasn’t come close to playing to that standard. He’s got this year and if he’s still subpar then his ass needs to go and the Raiders continue their years long tradition of blowing top 10 draft picks.

Yeah I don’t hate the player. I hate that the team used the 4th overall pick on a role player. The draft is set up so bad teams can get better by using top 5 picks on difference makers. You can bring in role players from the 2nd and 3rd tier of free agency.

OK, so who are the "difference makers" in this list? And make sure they'd be a "difference maker" outside of almost perfect circumstances around them (and hint, that isn't Allen since he spent last year getting bi***-slapped by offense linemen when he didn't have enough top defensive players around him to protect him.

1 Kyler Murray Cardinals QB Oklahoma
2 Nick Bosa 49ers DE Ohio State
3 Quinnen Williams Jets DT Alabama
4 Clelin Ferrell Raiders DE Clemson
5 Devin White Buccaneers LB Louisiana State
6 Daniel Jones Giants QB Duke
7 Josh Allen Jaguars LB Kentucky
8 T.J. Hockenson Lions TE Iowa
9 Ed Oliver Bills DT Houston
10 Devin Bush Steelers LB Michigan
11 Jonah Williams Bengals T Alabama
12 Rashan Gary Packers DE Michigan
13 Christian Wilkins Dolphins DT Clemson
14 Chris Lindstrom Falcons G Boston College
15 Dwayne Haskins Redskins QB Ohio State
16 Brian Burns Panthers LB Florida State
