Porter in 2002 had 688 yards. Using Porter in an argument about production is laughable. Tim and Jerry were the focus of the pass offense. And rightfully so.SkullCrusher » Tue Oct 26, 2021 4:38 pm
It is a small sample, but we saw this in 2002.RaiderandBulldog wrote Tue Oct 26, 2021 12:14 pm:Some Kool aid baby

I was thinking todays that if ran correctly this could be the toughest offense to scheme because they can change so easily. Small ball, run game, and long ball.we have the best TEs in the league. good RBs and the biggest depth at WRs by far.RaiderandBulldog wrote Tue Oct 26, 2021 12:14 pm:Some Kool aid baby

I mean just look at the SUCCESSFUL screen passes in the last 2 games. We got big yardage out of the ones we ran.RenoRaiders75 wrote Tue Oct 26, 2021 4:58 pm:I was thinking todays that if ran correctly this could be the toughest offense to scheme because they can change so easily. Sure, but plenty of people complained about Gruden being too conservative during his first tenure, too. Not too many people that I know were that upset when he was traded to TB.Attyla wrote Tue Oct 26, 2021 4:33 pm:Porter in 2002 had 688 yards. Using Porter in an argument about production is laughable. there were plenty of people who were upset at the trade especially considering what we got with those pickssrv5490 wrote Tue Oct 26, 2021 5:09 pm:Sure, but plenty of people complained about Gruden being too conservative during his first tenure, too. Credit where credit is due, he did a good job of changing culture in both of his tenures with the Raiders. Just not as successful with reaching the next level when he has full control of play calling and personnel.

What I don't understand is why Gruden didn't run those more. When he was our coach before he ran them all the time and we were almost unstoppable.FlyBono24 wrote Tue Oct 26, 2021 5:02 pm:I mean just look at the SUCCESSFUL screen passes in the last 2 games. We got big yardage out of the ones we ran.
Where have those been all year?! They were obviously in the playbook, but Gruden decided not to use them. Could have used those vs. the Chargers and Bears when they brought pressure....
The wheel route to Drake was a thing of beauty, too. Hadn't seen that all season, either.

He's terrible at self-assessment. Same game plan every week, regardless of who we play. Same plays in certain situations (4th and 1, red zone, etc.). More than anything else, this inability to honestly self-scout had to have been why we collapsed the past two years in the second half of the season.RenoRaiders75 wrote Tue Oct 26, 2021 5:32 pm:What I don't understand is why Gruden didn't run those more. There may be some truth here, but 2019 and 2020 we had no depth and down the stretch it caught up to us, both times. Also, with the run game, it helps a ton that the OL appears to have started to gel after kicking Leatherwood inside. We only got 1 game with Gruden after the line shakeup, and that was after the email situation probably shook the locker room up. Lots of drops, leaky line, lots of penalties. We played sloppy and I'm not sure how much of that was scheme.Opoponax50 wrote Wed Oct 27, 2021 11:01 am:He's terrible at self-assessment. Same game plan every week, regardless of who we play. And it's seems likely that he's a micromanager. How did our O-line go from the worst it had ever played to suddenly being competent?
As far as players go, once you're in Gruden's doghouse, you're done. Kenyan Drake went from looking like a horrible decision to suddenly being a productive part of the offense. Drake did something to piss Gruden off and so he wasn't going to be used except as a breather for Jacobs. Oh, and suddenly Jacobs is more productive on the ground and in the passing game.
Stubborn, arrogant, vindictive, and unimaginative when calling plays. That's Gruden in a nutshell.

We are going to find out soon enough. Based on a quick look at the rest of our schedule, we could go 8-2 or 2-8. We just do not know yet, based on the two wins since the coaching change. Neither team was a good team offensively and we were gifted some advantages, particularly during the Eagles game because of some really questionable coaching decisions. Not saying we are a bad team, but we have only beaten 1 team with a winning record and our opponents are at 41.6% win percentage....not overly impressive. I know we cannot pick our opponents but we can use their quality of play to grade our team on a curve.sooperkool » Wed Oct 27, 2021 10:23 pm

I said this about the screens during the game Sunday. We've ran two now and both times they've gone for 20 plus. Why would you NOT call them. Just adds more into Gruden not really being all that. We are going to find out how good we really are with the Bengals, Cowboys and Chiefs (twice) within the next 6.FlyBono24 wrote Tue Oct 26, 2021 5:02 pm:I mean just look at the SUCCESSFUL screen passes in the last 2 games. Can't argue much, because we've been disappointed many times before.Attyla wrote Wed Oct 27, 2021 3:43 pm:We are going to find out soon enough.
