I'm hoping the Colts hire Bisaccia and with the Panthers hiring Reich (who previously wanted Carr, per reports), the two get into a bidding war for his services.

I think Carr simply gets released. His contract is not anywhere in line with his production. The trade needed to happen last year. Timing matters.

If Z plays his cards right, it will be addition by subtraction.

Insiders say he’s expected to be traded so I’m hanging my hat on that until it happens or it doesn’t.

It’s entirely possible you’re right. But I also think there’s maybe an under-estimation of the demand and an over-appreciation of how much teams value draft capital.

If we’re holding out for a war chest - yeah he’s getting cut. But assuming that’s not the case a 2nd round pick isn’t necessarily a steep price to insure you get him. That’s kind of my expectation on a trade - 2nd and maybe a 4th. If there’s a team that’s dead set on getting him I could see it maybe going up to 2 2nds.

The alternatives on the open market are not that great. Assuming Brady’s gonna go where he wants - Jimmy G is by far the next best option to Carr and he’s injured half the time.

Last - his contract. While the cap numbers are higher the guarantees are virtually non-existent beyond next year. If I’m a betting man and Carr hits the open market - the guaranteed money is gonna go up significantly. He’s not interested in being a mercenary - he wants a team to actually commit long term. If the demand is what’s being advertised, it likely takes a true long(er) term deal to get Carr.

Would you rather give up a 2nd to see if Carr is your answer next year… or save a 2nd but be on the hook with him for the next 3?

I agree. Likely the only two Derek would consider. If I had to guess, Carolina. Better o-line. Besides, their name is the "Saints" but there ain't no Saints in Nawlins.

Jets fans are loopy about Rodgers now with the hiring of Hackett. The oddsmakers may be right, but I don't see Derek going there at all. Bad offense, few weapons, and, well... all the meanies in NYC.
