You guys don't need to worry about Carr's contract. He has already publicly said he has made enough money in this game and from the last contract. This was when he was saying he would retire than play for another team.Aqua » Mon Oct 18, 2021 10:46 am
In this case I think the Raiders should just let it ride and see what happens thru this season and 2022 as well. Following Carr's third year, the 2016 season , when he still had a year remaining for his rookie contract, the Raiders jumped the gun a bit by signing him to a long term deal , probably because they wanted to show faith. But this time around it's different because Carr is older and he is already set for life financially.bringdafunk wrote Mon Oct 18, 2021 10:26 am:Yup still under contract for 21 and 22

Carr balled out yesterday, it will be interesting to see if Gruden was holding him back or if he just performs one week and doesn’t the next. Consistency has been my main issue with Carr.Attyla » Mon Oct 18, 2021 11:12 am
yes that is correct, however as I have said before it is rare for a "franchise" QB to go into his lame duck year without a new deal, it does happen but not a lot. Which would mean that if we plan on retaining him we have a couple choices, do a deal this year, do a deal in the off season or franchise him after 2022. The franchise option is the safety net option but can piss off players making them uninterested in resigning.Aqua wrote Mon Oct 18, 2021 10:16 am:Carr's current contract includes the 2022 season, correct ?

Frankly I think it is far too early to discuss what the Raiders should do with Carr. Let the season play out and then shift the focus to what the team needs to do moving forward.Aqua » Mon Oct 18, 2021 11:37 am
By "franchise him" you mean that for year 2023 the Raiders would have the option of retaining him for a single year, 2023?Attyla wrote Mon Oct 18, 2021 11:12 am:yes that is correct, however as I have said before it is rare for a "franchise" QB to go into his lame duck year without a new deal, it does happen but not a lot. it is but it also allows him to leave via free agency. he has stated he will not play for anyone else but those are hollow words, many players have said similar only to follow the money. Carr may be sincere but if Mark wants to retain him, why risk the possibility of him signing elsewhere.Aqua wrote Mon Oct 18, 2021 11:37 am:By "franchise him" you mean that for year 2023 the Raiders would have the option of retaining him for a single year, 2023?
Isn't it also an option that he plays under current contract for the rest of this season as well as year 2022 and the Raiders sign him to a long term deal following the 2022 season ?

I think that was the logic following the 2016 season, to lock up Carr so he would not sign with another team. This time around he is 6 years older and still has not played any playoff game football. My guess is that other NFL teams would have only moderate interest to sign a 32 year old Carr.Attyla wrote Mon Oct 18, 2021 11:47 am:it is but it also allows him to leave via free agency. he has stated he will not play for anyone else but those are hollow words, many players have said similar only to follow the money. like I said, depends on what happens the rest of this year.Aqua wrote Mon Oct 18, 2021 11:57 am:I think that was the logic following the 2016 season, to lock up Carr so he would not sign with another team. If Carr led the Raiders to a playoff win or two, this season or next season, then I think he will have earned himself a new Raiders contract.
But without playoff wins I don't believe the Raiders should resign him.

Carr says as much, however Steve Young is very very concerned about this.signal wrote Mon Oct 18, 2021 11:16 am:Frankly I think it is far too early to discuss what the Raiders should do with Carr. Let the season play out and then shift the focus to what the team needs to do moving forward.
Carr and everyone in house has to be focused on the next game. Nothing else matters right now. Nothing.

yep, myself personally if I were in charge, wait til the off season and if you are not sold on him, let him play his lame duck year. Then you either franchise him, which will not cost a kings ransom or you compete to sign him if he is worthy, or you wish him well. all solutions are on the board at this timeWillmark wrote Mon Oct 18, 2021 12:01 pm:After Week 3 the talking heads were “pay the man!”
Weeks 4-5 silence.
Best bet is as you note to wait and see. Yes he played very well this week. He’s also played meh. There is no rush as the Raiders are in the drivers seat with his contract.

Carr's most obvious exceptional skill is long pass accuracy.bringdafunk wrote Mon Oct 18, 2021 10:08 am:341 yards on 18 completions. I don't care who you are, that's insane. I think he may be the only QB so far this year to have 340+ yards and 2 TDs on less than 20 completions.
