Let's suppose that Jacobs is platooned and finishes the 2022 Raiders season with 600 yards rushing and 6 TDs. Decent numbers for a part time RB.LA Raider 23 » Mon Aug 08, 2022 12:15 am
They didn’t pick up his contract so he’s going to want to show out to prove his worth for other teams so why trade him?Ivanavich » Mon Aug 08, 2022 12:25 am

That being said on the flip side why would anyone want to trade for an rb who will be a free agent?

Trading Jacob's now is literally pointless.Attyla » Mon Aug 08, 2022 5:38 am
he is not getting traded, and in the system McDaniels uses, if he is healthy, his all purpose yards will exceed 1K total yards and 10TDs. He is the best we got and in the system McDaniels uses the RBs are vastly more used in the passing game than in the Gruden system we employed. And Jacobs can catch the ball in space. Will he be here in 2023? Who knows, but is the value we get for trading him now worth lowering the quality of the RB room in a year when we put all the chips on the table to make a run? FYI the assertion that having a lot of kids makes him not a role model for his teammates is a nonfactor. This is just someone trying to force their personal moral values into an argument that does not need to be there. Jacobs was not brought in to be a role model for his teammates. Players are not axed because of their role model status in regards to their teammates. Players are not axed because of their status as a role model in general, let alone with regards to their teammates.RI RAIDER » Mon Aug 08, 2022 6:13 am
Not thread worthy. It has been beaten like a dead horse. We are not trading our best RB because we will not get any more than we will ultimately get with a comp pick. Aside of that, we have many questions at RB and we all know about injuries at the position. Let's just enjoy him this year. He is going to have a big season (there is a lot riding on it for him personally).Attyla » Mon Aug 08, 2022 6:45 am
But your logic is flawed. If he can rush for 1K yards with another team, he can do so with the Raiders since McDaniels system is one where the RB is utilized quite a bit. Platooning only works if the other RBs can contribute significantly and we have zero evidence we have those horses. We know Josh can do so.Ivanavich wrote Mon Aug 08, 2022 12:25 am:Bolded print is your answer.
Some other GM who's looking for a RB to 'run the hell out of' for 1 season would gladly give a 3rd to 5th round future draft pick. A 1,000+ rushing season for another team is worth something to that team. 1,000 yard rushers don't grow on trees.
The point is that Jacobs is worth less to the Raiders than to a team who intends to run him as much as possible in 2022.
New GM. New HC. New offense. The next man up can run for 600 yards, if they can find him.

at the current time, while Dallas has about 22M in cap space, next year they currently have -5M in space with a lot of free agents. Dallas, like the Raiders, have signed some hefty contracts in recent years and will need to restructure more than a few to field a roster that remains competitive. If Zeke were to go down, while Jacobs might be a fit, signing him to a new extention would be problematic. A Zeke injury would only require a one year deal. Dallas can trade for a guy like Sony Michel far more cheaply with a team that has far more depth.BigJerk wrote Mon Aug 08, 2022 12:41 am:When Zeke goes down in week 2 ... Jerrah would pay handsomely. In both draft capital and a shiny new extension for Josh.

While I agree with you, others won't see it that way. It is "coach speak";Attyla wrote Mon Aug 08, 2022 8:49 am:Nah, in this case there would not be a reason to lie. It is far more likely that a team will lie about shopping a guy over keeping a guy.

This is the same type of coach/ gm/ talking head- speak that happened... the day before a trade.
Nobody connected to the Raiders is going to admit that Jacobs has one foot out the door if the right offer comes along.
Nobody.
Next question.

Jacobs isn't above being traded. If Zeigler got a desired package Jacobs would be traded. But team aren't throwing draft picks at running backs either. So Jacobs will stay and McDaniels is going to feed him the ball. Squeeze every last bit out of him, the better season he has, the better contract he gets from another team in the off season. And the way Zeigler and McDaniels think, it will mean a higher compensatory pick.
