History of injury, plays recklessly and is already 25 years old.mranquales wrote Sat Jan 28, 2023 1:12 am:Yeah, I'm starting to like Hendon Hooker more and more as a prospect. We can get him in the second or third round.
6'4
Deadly accuracy
Goes through his progressions
Grinded his way to the top, went from nothing to just shy of a Heisman finalist

Telegraphed handoffs?? Bruh....Ismail86 wrote Sat Jan 28, 2023 5:22 am:I mean, a lot more goes into than that. But the fact that you just watched a game and formed an opinion on something other than a highlight reel puts you ahead of the curve!

Ordos reminded us of Johnny Football to add to that list(another 1st bust).STHfrontrow wrote Fri Jan 27, 2023 7:22 pm:Browns been drafting 1st round QB's for decades and haven't hit yet.
2000 Tim Couch
2007 Brady Quinn
2012 Branden Weeden
2018 Baker Mayfield (1st overall)
These are 1st round busts and the list doesn't include other shots at QB such as Colt McCoy in the 3rd round. I guess at least the Browns are trying.

Watson could return to form, and I am one who thinks he very well might. You are not going to be sharp after that much time out of the game.STHfrontrow wrote Sat Jan 28, 2023 8:10 am:Ordos reminded us of Johnny Football to add to that list(another 1st bust).
Guess we could also add two 1st rd picks for their trade of Watson as well.

My point was that a team can draft a few QB's over the years and still not hit. I was replying to a previous poster who said we should draft a QB this year and next year.Dark Horse wrote Sat Jan 28, 2023 7:15 am:What should they have done?

Texans traded Watson for two 1st round picks. Supposedly we were offered the same by the Colts last year for Carr. Now some here think we will just cut him. Ouch.Attyla wrote Sat Jan 28, 2023 8:24 am:Watson could return to form, and I am one who thinks he very well might. You are not going to be sharp after that much time out of the game.

hence the QB evaluation process is very difficult, very hit and miss and nobody knows what a guy will do at the next level. There are so many factors to consider, skill set, backing teammates, coaching, stability. and then once you get them on your roster, do you sit them, start them, scheme, coaching again, supporting cast again, play calling.....there are no guarantees at all, no matter what you read. A GM is going to make an educated guess, but nobody knows about the mental make up of a QB until the first time they get Dubow'd. Do you have Montana or Leaf? The top 4 projected QBs in the draft all have flaws, and in some cases glaring flaws. But they will all go early in the first round. Nobody knows which one or one's will separate themselves from their peers. Nobody.STHfrontrow wrote Sat Jan 28, 2023 8:25 am:My point was that a team can draft a few QB's over the years and still not hit. We could draft a QB this year and that could possibly cause us to pass up on a potential HOF next year. Or Levis could be a stud and a lot of people here would be wrong about him.

I truly think 2 things you can’t measure on film consistently are processing speed and the will to be great. Physical tools are a no brainer and most first rounders have those.Attyla wrote Sat Jan 28, 2023 8:39 am:hence the QB evaluation process is very difficult, very hit and miss and nobody knows what a guy will do at the next level. But you have to roll the dice if you have a need at the position and no viable option. So four teams will roll the dice. At this time, nobody knows who gets the prize pick of the crop.

agreed, and there is a problem that college creates. These guys are coddled in college, told where to go, when to get there, tutors to pass classes, meals supplied, all travel arranged etic. They go straight from a highly controlled high school to an even higher controlled college environment. Then they get drafted, and after camp they are released into their new community with very little control. Hence you have Ruggs and others. JaMarcus on his own, refused to learn his playbook because he was "the man" and nobody was holding his feet to the fire.Raidernation1979 wrote Sat Jan 28, 2023 8:49 am:I truly think 2 things you can’t measure on film consistently are processing speed and the will to be great. I think to some degree the wonderlic can measure processing speed. But the will to be great can’t be measured. It can’t be found in a measurement or an interview. This can only be determined by actions especially once at the pro level.

OKAY, I think we all already knew that. You picked the most extreme example in the NFL.STHfrontrow wrote Sat Jan 28, 2023 8:25 am:My point was that a team can draft a few QB's over the years and still not hit. Not pick Johnny Manziel #1 ... A decision the owner made from advice received while stepping over some homeless fan on a sidewalk.Dark Horse wrote Sat Jan 28, 2023 7:15 am:What should they have done?

Agreed, by the question didn't just pertain to that pick. The author seemed to be suggesting that the results mean the should have never picked a QB in the first round.BigJerk wrote Sat Jan 28, 2023 9:39 am:Not pick Johnny Manziel #1 ... Exactly, which is a counterpoint to the notion that you just don't pick 1st round QBs. The Brown f#cked up every QB selection which is what makes them the Browns. Akili Smith belongs in there.BigJerk wrote Sat Jan 28, 2023 10:16 am:Or not pick the wrong QB in the 1st.
Some 1st rd QBs actually do work out.

I’d cream my britches if we could get Stroud at 7…
