so you are back on this again? Murray was decent, and had one good, not great year. His one claim to fame was he could find the endzone when we got down into the goal line area. He was a horrible blocker and decent pass catcher but you had to hit him in the hands precisely. After he left, he was never able to be more than a spot starter. He only started for us because he was cheap and we had no talent.Archaic wrote Thu Jan 26, 2023 12:17 pm:Latavius Murray was great and the Raiders let him go. I second that. The only aspect of Murray that could be described as “great”, would be his longevity in the NFL despite only being a decent to pretty-good-sometimes RB.Sir Raider Duck, OMS » Thu Jan 26, 2023 2:08 pm
Murray's biggest problem was a lack of "vision," for lack of a better term. If the play called him to run between the left guard and left tackle, that's where he'd go. If a big hole opened up between the center and right guard, he'd never even see it. Jacobs, by contrast, is usually able to change direction and get that extra yardage.TallMarvin » Thu Jan 26, 2023 5:00 pm

Murray was a good solid NFL running back and an argument for good RBs being found in the middle to late rounds. But he was not "great" at all.

Trade Carr, cut James, and restructure Kolton Miller and we're looking at about 66 mill in cap space. Giving Jacobs 13-14 mill leaves us with 54 in space. Plenty to sign Brady or a stop gap with leftovers to improve the defense and OL.FLORIDARAYDAH » Thu Jan 26, 2023 5:59 pm
We also only have half a roster under contract. We had very little room. Carr will open up some obviously. We don't have a lot to spend when you figure how many spots there are to fill. If we go big on a QB there won't much left for big signingsNoThanksSir wrote Thu Jan 26, 2023 5:55 pm:Trade Carr, cut James, and restructure Kolton Miller and we're looking at about 66 mill in cap space. We have 45 players under contract, it's not that bad. the veterans FA we need to retain won't cost much. There's also the draft. If you're going for broke with Brady that top pick can be a defensive starter too. It makes sense if you're in win now mode which I believe this regime is. Davante and Waller are probably here two years more max. After that you're in for a more significant rebuild of the roster.FLORIDARAYDAH wrote Thu Jan 26, 2023 5:59 pm:We also only have half a roster under contract. We had very little room. We will be much better off when the following year when we don’t have $24ish mil in dead cap.BoJacksonRules » Thu Jan 26, 2023 7:49 pm
we let a good player go for cheap. He was worth keeping for the price, seems to happen pretty frequently around here. Murray was a solid back. Not great not bad. A good player. He went down way too easy for a big back and yes his vision or lateral movement at the point of attack was not goodIsmail86 » Fri Jan 27, 2023 4:17 am
Yeah this came out like right after I posted this lol. My bad. But like I said in another thread, I'm now convinced (polar opposite) that we'll trade these two and sign Jimmy G. In the press conference, someone will ask about trading these 2 and the response will be something along the lines of "sometimes you have to make some moves in order to get your franchise QB". Even tho the franchise QB is someone none of us wanted anyway.Sold My Soul wrote Tue Jan 24, 2023 8:03 pm:According to a report.....they are on the block.

If this were true, then the hall of fame would be empty. I don’t believe this was lightning in a bottle, with a bunch of freak 90 yard scampers. This was a guy that consistently broke tackles and made men miss routinely. His running style supports that his season isn’t a fluke.heavyD wrote Thu Jan 19, 2023 10:07 am:The issue is that it’s never good business to extend a player following a career year. Raiders got a poor return on Renfrow this season for example. Jacobs is not likely to repeat this season’s numbers next season so I would franchise him and see how much of that production is repeatable in determining his value in a term contract. Giants should do the same with Barkley. Remember this was a guy the new regime was willing to walk away from based on his first three seasons. There’s no downside to franchising a running back.

That's a lie. Murray definately broke tackles. I slightly agree with the vision thing, but Murray was a better overall runner than Jacobs, especially in that when we were in the redzone, you knew Murray would bulldoze his way there, versus Jacobs who gets stuffed at least half the time.NoClapsPlease wrote Fri Jan 27, 2023 6:10 am:
Doesn’t break tackles
Doesn’t run behind his pads
I actually hated his running style
A 6’3 running back that runs like a WR. It’s no wonder they got rid of his ass.
I agree 100%. Murray was great.Archaic wrote Thu Jan 26, 2023 12:17 pm:Latavius Murray was great and the Raiders let him go. I hope the same does not happen to Josh Jacobs.
