"The 49ers defensive back tackled Pollard from behind late in the second quarter of Sunday's divisional round game. Pollard suffered a fractured fibula and a high ankle sprain on the play; he'll need serious surgery.

The part of the tackle that the league is eyeing, according to the Washington Post, is when Ward drops his hips to help him pull down Pollard and lands on the running back’s ankle. The league will look at the "mechanics of the tackle in Pollard's case," according to the Post."

That happens and Carr may finally be a Top 10 QB.

Flags, and the league-mandated “10 Mississippies” rule.
Congrats: 2  These Raider Fans gave GoodTimeCharlie high fives (total 2):

Guess i'm lost.

What else was he supposed to do? Dive at his legs head first and hope he tackles him and possibly injure him that way? Looks to me it was a bang bang play and the part about him dropping his hips looks to me as if his feet went out from underneath him not like he was dropping his hips in some type of taught textbook tackle...

Rather than 'fixing' stuff, and making the it less and less of what hooked many of us watching years ago, how about slowing the game down a bit by having all teams play on grass, For the gymnasiums, (domes) figure it out.

Also, on an unrelated note, eliminate the jumping around like an idiot after each routine play. This doesn't 'add' to anything for the viewer. Watch even a 80's playoff game replay, well before that shit got out of control, and the crowd was at least as much in to it, and possibly more.

Back in the day coaches (good coaches) taught players not to get emotional like that as it just expends more energy then what is necessary and to keep the energy for the rest of the game. Really, the time to celebrate is after you win a game.

I know I'll probably get roasted for saying this, but I am typically all for rules related to reducing injuries. The league is best when the best players are on the field, not when they're on the sideline.

Then I’m sure you’ll be enjoying the flag football Pro Bowl this year.

Nothing wrong with that when we are talking about reality but from what I saw and what the NFL is saying is more pie in the sky. Sadly, it's like many things in this world it's so convoluted the mentality of it all is troubling.

If you watch the play again he had 3 choices, let the player go and make him look bad, dive head long into his legs which could of caused an injury or tackle him the only way he could on that play. How else was he supposed to tackle him? The NFL is saying he "dropped his hips" whatever in the world that means. It was a bang bang play that happens to fast where, unfortunately, in the process of tackling him he fell on this leg.

This happens in tackle football.

Injuries are part of the game and why they make the big bucks. I could care less about these guys getting injured on the job when they make life changing money to do so.

And I can't help but wonder if the NFL is headed to this or a hybrid of it and ease fans into that type of ridiculous game.

If they went that route I wouldn't so much as bother, ever, to tune into that sport. Might as well watch hockey or baseball at that point. As George Carlin once joked about it's what makes the game so great to begin with... GET THAT GUY!!!

But you can't legislate everything, it's a violent sports. We have a 15 yards penalty for touching a QBs helmet that isn't preventing injury but is skewing the game.
