I wonder if the regime did not go all in and sign Adams and give extensions to Carr, Waller and Renfro...that possibly they would not have signed Jones since he is so old. IF last year they had traded Carr and not gone all in with a trade for Adams, I really doubt they spend their money on an old vet who has maybe one more good year in him...maybe.DrDUne wrote Wed Feb 01, 2023 1:12 pm:His pressure rate was 10.6% which was well below the league average for edge rushers at 15.9%. I also hope that they are able to land a great DT, but Jones was not good. When you look at his numbers relative to his contract, it turns from not good into one of the consensus "worst free agent signings of 2022", if not the worst.

They pushed their chips all in with a pair of eights and got beat . Now it's time to build this team the right way...from the lines out. Build a tough as shit defense to help out the offense.signal wrote Wed Feb 01, 2023 1:28 pm:I wonder if the regime did not go all in and sign Adams and give extensions to Carr, Waller and Renfro...that possibly they would not have signed Jones since he is so old. This signing was simply a result of the regime making a huge mistake last offseason in their assessment of the team. They thought they were close and went all in. Even though that playoff team from a year ago, was below average in points scored AND points allowed. Some of the moves they are trying to make now SHOULD have been made last offseason. And some of us knew it.

Best post of this growing thread. No way Brady was ever coming to Vegas and Rodgers? About a 2% chance. Fans can be very unrealistic.heavyD wrote Wed Feb 01, 2023 6:44 am:Look at the division. The Chiefs are a win away from another Super Bowl. The Chargers finally made the playoffs and just hired a competent OC that may take their offense to new heights. The Broncos just hired Payton and his .623 career winning percentage. I know Mark Davis wants to win now but the odds are massively stacked against the Raiders. I feel the best route would be to stick with Stidham, start rebuilding the defense and maybe draft a QB outside of the 1st round to develop. Getting a pick or two for Carr would be a step in the right direction and maybe signing Moreau for a modest contract while trading Waller for a pick or two. If Andy Reid wins another Super Bowl you have to wonder how long he's going to coach and even if Payton can turn around Wilson he's still close to the end of his career. If the Raiders do things right they could be an ascending team in a couple of seasons while the Broncos and Chiefs (Mahomes will always make them threat but time is ticking on Reid and Kelce) take a step back.

Time to focus on drafting a QB now.RunOverByHubbard » Wed Feb 01, 2023 5:22 pm
I agree. But in a weak year on paper, better be careful. One of the top four guys will probably end up being very good but it seems pretty risky this go-round. We do have very good receivers to throw to but we have a make shift O- line and having a rookie throw behind it makes me nervousBe_Easy_25 wrote Wed Feb 01, 2023 2:05 pm:Time to focus on drafting a QB now.

I think they did know but were under pressure from Mark Davis to make it back to the playoffs. Remember at McDaniels introductory press conference Mark got upset at a reporter for suggesting this is a rebuild, he said this is NOT a rebuild. I’m sure Ziegler and McDaniels knew this roster was subpar after watching last years’s film at least I hope they did.signal wrote Wed Feb 01, 2023 1:28 pm:I wonder if the regime did not go all in and sign Adams and give extensions to Carr, Waller and Renfro...that possibly they would not have signed Jones since he is so old. I seriously doubt Rodgers was ever considering retiring. Like a lot of future HOFers who are aging out, he still sees himself as the best. And like a lot of those guys who are allowed to move to a new team, he has his eyes on a revenge move by winning another championship. Namath, Unitas, Montana, and of course Brady all took their aging skills to new horizons to test their mettle. Of all of them, that ellusive ring with another team being the goal, only a very few get a shot at the prize. Brady and Mr Omaha being two of those exceptions.chucker wrote Thu Feb 02, 2023 6:42 am:Here's a thought that's probably accurate:

In terms of QB's available, it is actually a very good FA class. Next year is not nearly as good unless you think Hurts will hit FA.DrDUne wrote Wed Feb 01, 2023 6:32 am:The only silver lining is that perhaps other teams will be more interested in trading for Carr with Brady off the table.
It’s a weak QB free agency list and a not a great rookie QB draft - this is not shaping up well for the Raiders. There are legit concerns with even the very top consensus rookie QBs (Young and Stroud).
I’m trying not to be pessimistic, but alas. Jimmy G is rising on the board but he won’t have near (and by not near we I mean not even remotely close) the supporting cast that he benefited from in SF. The Raiders simply aren’t built like them, and I have the same doubts about him elevating the roster around him that I have with Carr.

Brady retired, I seriously doubt Lamar Jackson hits the open market.haji81872 wrote Thu Feb 02, 2023 11:48 pm:In terms of QB's available, it is actually a very good FA class. Next year is not nearly as good unless you think Hurts will hit FA.

Wow that list sucks, no wonder teams want to trade for Carr this year. I don’t think he’s much better than those other QB’s but he certainly has better stats than most of them.DrDUne wrote Sat Feb 04, 2023 10:59 am:Brady retired, I seriously doubt Lamar Jackson hits the open market.
After that,
Jimmy Garoppolo
Geno Smith
Daniel Jones (another I don’t expect to hit the market)
Jacoby Brissett
Taylor Heinecke
Baker Mayfield
Sam Darnold
Andy Dalton
Am I missing any? Lamar and Jones would surprise most people if they didn’t end up with their respective teams. I don’t see any killers in the rest of that list, but that’s just my opinion.
