Hes definitely injury prone. I dont think anyone said he was a Carr clone though. That would be a low blow.Attyla wrote Sat Mar 25, 2023 2:01 pm:It's kinda interesting to me that before we signed him the general opinion was he was a Carr clone, would be too expensive for a bridge guy, was too injury prone and would not move the needle for our team.
Now some of those same opinions are vastly different.

Garoppolo- 87 touchdown passes, 42 interceptions , 30 fumblesDark Horse wrote Sat Mar 25, 2023 9:13 pm:I am challenging the statement that was made, Carr has better stats.

it is close looking beyond volume stats.Raider727 wrote Sat Mar 25, 2023 10:44 pm:Garoppolo- 87 touchdown passes, 42 interceptions , 30 fumbles
Carr- 217 touchdown passes, 99 interceptions, 80 fumbles
Slightly better....

I understand that Garoppolo hasn't been made to throw much compared to Carr. But I'm not buying that Garoppolo somehow is some huge upgrade over Carr.Jeremyturner1976 wrote Sat Mar 25, 2023 11:06 pm:it is close looking beyond volume stats.
Jimmy has better stats at everything not based on time played besides int % (2.0 to 2.4), but Jimmy isn't a football pinata on contact and has a better TD% (5.0 to 4.4). Garrapolo was playing excellent football last year though (1.3% ints to Derek's 2.8%)

I put a full year healthy Jimmy well above Carr in this system, but it gets to be a judgement call in that 15-18 range. Dubow puts Carr above Garrapolo for example.
Neither are worth 25 million imo but the show must go on. What is interesting is Shanahans record with/without Garrapolo - Purdy is the only other QB who excelled in that system and he may just be a damn good QB.

First year in the system Carr is what I am comparing him to. I think if we had three years for Carr to learn it, he would be better. He was bad under Gruden for two years also.Raider727 wrote Sat Mar 25, 2023 11:38 pm:I understand that Garoppolo hasn't been made to throw much compared to Carr. Can he be a better QB than Carr under McDaniels system? I think it's definitely possible, but I'm still not in awe of Garoppolo.
I have to see it to believe it, but at least the Raiders can move on next year if it doesn't work out.

And Carr has made a lot of money that way.rich72 wrote Sat Mar 25, 2023 11:42 pm:Carr is a Stat Padder, stats mean nothing. He never really cared if we won or lost as long as his stats looked good at the end of the game.

Jimmy G gets 9, almost 10 in the system to prove himself, right? After all the Carr fans kept clamoring that "Derek just needs X" to succeed.Raider727 » Sun Mar 26, 2023 8:25 am
I just want to point out that I wanted Carr gone for the last 5 years, but didn't want the Raiders to sign Garoppolo either. But now that the contract details show that it's a 1 year prove it deal, I have come to grips with the signing. Looking forward to seeing what Garoppolo can do under McDaniels system with all these weapons and will be rooting for him to continue to win games like he has in the past.Willmark » Sun Mar 26, 2023 8:54 am
Last game of 2018 against KC is what did it for me.Raider727 wrote Sun Mar 26, 2023 8:25 am:I just want to point out that I wanted Carr gone for the last 5 years, but didn't want the Raiders to sign Garoppolo either. 2 4th and games man. Dropping the football to break his fall - also twice and one even in the endzone. The list goes on and on. He did not give two shits win or lose when the going got tough.NoClapsPlease wrote Sun Mar 26, 2023 8:41 am:We can dislike the guy without making up false narratives.
The guy obviously wanted to win. Just didn’t have what it takes to do so
Leave it at that.

Definitely, but he is no longer our problem.Dank Sinatra » Sun Mar 26, 2023 11:35 am
Maybe not 9 years but Jimmy should get at least 6 seasons to prove himself and allow for the club to get every available option to help him, to include firing coaches etc. Whatever Jimmy needs, Jimmy should get. Right?Opoponax50 » Sun Mar 26, 2023 12:17 pm

If so that is infinitely worseDark Horse wrote Fri Mar 24, 2023 6:46 am:
I'd say a large majority of them. Too many times I have seen him look right in the direction of an open WR or two and just elect not to make the pass. Carr jocks would say things like "He wasn't comfortable making that pass." And it's very similar when it came to ignore run lanes. We know this guys doesn't do anything he doesn't feel like doing based on his bulls☆it commentary:
- He plays QB as he sees fit
- He wasn't going to throw to Casey Heyward's side
- He checked down from the Hail Mary due to "simple math."
- He didn't throw to a wide open dragging DeSean Jackson because he didn't identity the WILL backer
- After the 1st quarter deep TD to Cooper, "The Chargers weren't going to give that to him again," AKA I decided I was not taking the chance again for the remaining 3 quarters.
This guy actually can read the field, he just does WTF he wants to do.

For many years I have been an "ABC" guy: "Anybody But Carr".
