I would not be shocked if Byron Young is one in that group of final cuts. Did not play much last season and did nothing of note when he did. So, definitely don't see Young as a factor whatsoever in determining where Wilson ends up playing. In my mind, Young is fighting for dear life to just make the squad.KillerRaider30 wrote Sun Jul 07, 2024 8:16 pm:From what I've watched and read about Wilsons rookie year was he had better stats at end.
Add also we are deeper than some think at DT. Wondering about our 3rd round pick from last year..
Byron Young?
His move inside said, by Graham, was to focus on hand use and learn snap quickness and Howie had a good point on the podcast, The Rush,
Maxx extending his career will help him get to the Hall. He said resting Crosby will extend his career so it points to Wilson playing end primary this year.

Yeah, Byron Young the guy that McZigs fumbled the draft pick.signal wrote Mon Jul 08, 2024 7:53 am:I would not be shocked if Byron Young is one in that group of final cuts. Wilson's performance at both DE and DT will determine when and where he gets his opportunities. It is anyone's guess right now, but think it likely he will be playing both positions depending upon scenario.
P.S. The Raiders drafted the wrong Byron Young last draft and I am not convinced it was not a stupid gaff on their part.

I'm with you. His getting yoked in the offseason is encouraging at least... it shows he's taking it seriously and is actively trying to get better. A step up from Tyree this year would be huge, so here's to hoping!RunOverByHubbard wrote Sat Jul 06, 2024 3:34 pm:For all the talk of Wilson's new physique, his tutelage under Maxx, his possible flexing to the DT position, etc. it is all just talk and hope until we see improvements on the field. I saw so little growth in him last year, that I remain skeptical about this draft pick. Wait and see mode.

You get it. There is a big difference between calling someone a bust in the middle of their rookie season (which some here did) versus saying they are playing like a bust during their rookie year. But, being a very high draft pick puts you under the microscope; plus, he had a slow start due to his healing foot. Wilson has a lot to prove as a top draft pick and a lot of room for improvement. I believe there is a good chance he will be better in his sophomore year but what he is in 2-3 years is up in the air. If I had to bet, I think he will be at a minimum a serviceable DE. He has a lot of physical attributes that are well above average and he could end up being a very good D-lineman whether he is strictly used on the edge or whether he is flexed.Amish Cabal wrote Tue Jul 09, 2024 6:25 am:I'm with you. No we got the guy we wanted. Football Gods tried to help us out, but we still went with the wrong one. The Rams Byron Young said he got a call from his agent saying he was getting picked by the Raiders. A few minutes later he called back and said they called him on accident and they wanted the other one.BigJerk wrote Mon Jul 08, 2024 10:18 am:Yeah, Byron Young the guy that McZigs fumbled the draft pick.
.... Took the wrong guy with the same name (different schools)??
Rams got the guy we intended to draft.
So I'd be surprised if he did Anything but PS.

I wasnt a member here last year. What was the board's consensus about passing over Jalen Carter?rich72 » Wed Jul 10, 2024 5:23 pm
After the Ruggs crash most people knew it wasnt going to happen. Mark for sure was not going to go for anymore pr nightmares. I 100% wanted Carter but knew we wouldnt be drafting him so it wasnt a shocker.Cruisin with Tooz wrote Wed Jul 10, 2024 4:16 pm:I wasnt a member here last year. This ^. I think most acknowledged he was probably the best prospect in the draft… and also that there’s no way we’d pick him.rich72 wrote Wed Jul 10, 2024 5:23 pm: After the Ruggs crash most people knew it wasnt going to happen. Ruggs was actually known as a good character.raiders93 wrote Wed Jul 10, 2024 7:41 pm:This ^. I think most acknowledged he was probably the best prospect in the draft… and also that there’s no way we’d pick him.
Our terrible track record with “low character” guys extends well beyond Ruggs also (AB, arnette, Bowden, Chandler jones, etc…). We have had a tendency of bringing out the craziest versions of our players.
Speaking for myself, I felt Carter would’ve been a disaster here even knowing he’s an insanely good DT.

Just kills me that we cant draft him at #9 because of the risk, but its OK for a team that has built a superbowl roster to take the risk at #12. The Raiders have always shunned players from Penn State in favor of players from the state pen. I wonder what Al would have done.Cruisin with Tooz » Wed Jul 10, 2024 8:30 pm
Yeah. Cant really lump him, or for that matter Carter, in with Arnette. He just did a really stupid thing that probably every one of us has done one (or many) times.June510 wrote Wed Jul 10, 2024 8:15 pm:Ruggs was actually known as a good character.

I've never done what either of those two did, and I don't know anyone who has.Cruisin with Tooz wrote Wed Jul 10, 2024 8:30 pm:Yeah. Cant really lump him, or for that matter Carter, in with Arnette. He just did a really stupid thing that probably every one of us has done one (or many) times.

It doesnt matter what he was known as, what happened put the spotlight on Mark Davis in a negative way and he wasnt diggin it. I think this was after the whole Gruden fiasco so mark was reeling already.June510 wrote Wed Jul 10, 2024 8:15 pm:Ruggs was actually known as a good character.

#1 When I said that it was something everyone has done at some time, I was refering to driving after drinking, not implying that everyone has killed someone.
