I think everyone on the planet knows that Wilson is raw and in need of development. But he possesses a freakish wingspan and has the frame to put a lot of muscle on without slowing him down. Wilson was considered by the vast majority of scouts and analysts as a top ten pick even with the foot injury because of his incredibly high ceiling.....not so much because what he has done but what he could do.KillerRaider30 wrote Sun May 14, 2023 3:58 pm:Hard to watch as TDL slow motions every play but watching him in other vids, I think he's terrible slow.
Slow off the snap and is NOT very athletic.
Aside from his massive size allowing him to push through linemen I didn't see much but maybe that size will account for 75% of what he needs to succeed and dont think the quality of those linemen are NFL level talent so there's that.
Not seeing bust but think it'll take a year in the weightroom with NFL trainers.
If he doesn't show y1, get ready for the bust talk. Lol
A big factor on what to expect will be seeing what the 2 DTs drafted last year look like, this year assuming they all have the same work ethic.
Fingers crossed across all accounts

I’m excited to see him this year - think he’s gonna be a fun guy to watch. What gets left out with a lot of guys (Wilson falls into this category) is the defensive scheme they played. He was often used more like a 3-4 end lined up over the tackle.signal wrote Mon May 15, 2023 9:06 am:I think everyone on the planet knows that Wilson is raw and in need of development. Wilson, in my mind, landed in one of the best spots possible for him to develop that raw talent. First, he is matched up with Maxx who we all know squeezes every ounce out of what his potential allows and produces. Z is definitely planning on Maxx taking Wilson under his wing and mentoring the young man so as to maximize his potential. And you have Jones, who has a long history of production with a similar body type to provide the young man technique that has worked for him. Wilson need only buy into the work and learning and he should develop.
So, coaching aside, that which every team has....the Raiders are blessed with two players that appear to be perfect for helping groom Wilson into the best version of Wilson. Now, if Wilson is too stupid to take advantage of the perfect situation, than yes, he could bust. But, otherwise, I think Wilson has a good chance to become a monster at the position giving the Raiders a DL that opponents will learn to fear.
While you may think he is terribly slow...the guy ran track in high school. He is definitely fast enough. He merely needs to develop the technique necessary to take advantage of that speed and that wingspan.

Fully agree. He looks like a man among boys at times in college. I think the additions of Wilson and Young will go a long way to really improving the DL.Jeevo wrote Tue May 16, 2023 8:17 pm:Wilson is easily the best looking first round pick we've made since Mack.

I cant compare Wilson to Mack. Mack looked pro ready, he was fully healthy and ready to go. I had no doubt he would be a very good NFL player from the minute we drafted him. Im still very"meh" on Wilson. Not sure when he might even see the field. I see a lot of holes in his game. He has elite size, which you cant teach , but NFL players arent going to be pushed around like he did in college.raiderkoch » Wed May 17, 2023 1:43 pm
Remember when people said he wouldn't translate to the NFL? He did, for a few years with us. Funny that when he went to the Bears he didn't seem to follow through with much further development. Still a talent but I felt like he faded quickly.Jeevo wrote Tue May 16, 2023 8:17 pm:Wilson is easily the best looking first round pick we've made since Mack.

You make it sound like this pick was some ridiculous reach like the many the Raiders have had in the past. This pick is the antithesis of what has happened during the Mayock and Gruden era. The Raiders did not reach for him...Wilson dropped to them.GUYDON wrote Wed May 17, 2023 1:11 pm:I cant compare Wilson to Mack. Mack looked pro ready, he was fully healthy and ready to go. He is not going to pancake Kelce the way he did college TEs
He has a lot.of technique to learn. Its not going to be over night. With the 1st pick I was hoping for a plug and play starter, instead we got an athlete coming of an injury who needs a ton of work.
Par for the course for the Raiders. I cant count the number of times the Raiders drafted a player who was a supreme athlete coming off injury, that needed a lot of work. I hope this time will be different.

Again, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Right now Im not as high on Wislon as others are. If he comes in and is a game wrecker, I will be super happy and say I didnt see it coming.Raider727 » Wed May 17, 2023 3:30 pm
Wilson like Richardson has the potential to be a superstar. The main difference is that it's much harder to succeed at QB than it is for a defensive end.haji81872 » Thu May 18, 2023 7:16 am
No matter who we picked certain people would have declared it a bad pick and that he will bust. I mean Young could have fell to.us and certain people would still complain. On the other end certain people would say it was a great pick no matter who it was. Just the way things go. Those of us in between evaluate what is actually there and say we will wait and see
