Since he was drafted, the number sits at 7 games. I do not follow his school, but it is not hard to find full game footage these days. I have watched about 15 games for our other top picks as well. Why would you assume that the need to know a player is somehow relevant? I can watch his game footage without knowing him.RaiderFan1 wrote Sat Jun 03, 2023 12:18 pm:
GTFO , how many Boilermaker games did you watch last year ? hilarious all you guys talking like you know this player.....

And the really neat part, slick? Since I am focused on one guy, I can back things up to get some really good views.
I do watch my share of college games as well as other pro teams, and I have been doing that, in all likelihood for more years than you have been alive.

well, I figured the high road was preferred. His game vs Indiana was pretty good over all and the Michigan game has already been referenced. But if you want to see a game that brings home the rough parts that will need to be cleaned up, you watch the Iowa game. It showcases why he was drafted where he was. I like to think you learn more about a player when they have a rough outing. Do they fold the tent or do they fight on. He fought on, but it was a rough game for him.Xramfan wrote Sat Jun 03, 2023 3:13 pm:You need more clown emojis for emphasis

He runs slower than a sitting duck? Is that even possible?Attyla wrote Sat Jun 03, 2023 11:21 am:at this level, he is a sitting duck if he tries to run. the speed of his competition was mostly not that great so he got away with it because of that. and the DBs he will face will pick apart that thread the needle approach. He does not have the velocity on his ball to pull it off, He will be best served by getting his lower body mechanics fixed and stay in the pocket. His pocket awareness is pretty good and his play action can keep defenses honest. He would get away with a scramble every once in a while, problem is most teams will not respect his deep ball so defenses can play up toward the line.
Get the mechanics fixed, that will help get his ball going with a bit more zip. Use that play action to move the defense. He is not a Brady clone but he does have some of the skills that our coach likes to use. McDaniels offense rarely runs by design. So if he runs, it will be because the play broke down.
as i have said, I am not opposed to the guy, he is likely a career back up but you need those guys because they are cheap and he would be a system guy. If he becomes anything else, bonus.

in this case, the tape don't lie for real!! I can't remember what game it was I was watching, but he tore off like a 30 yard scramble. The DBs were so focused on their routes they did not even react for a few seconds. That ain't happening at the NFL level. I don't know what his 40 time would be in a T and shorts but his scrambling and running abilities are not pretty. And his throws, already ugly, are really bad on the run. Somewhat better going to his right but ugly to the extreme.haji81872 wrote Sat Jun 03, 2023 3:39 pm:He runs slower than a sitting duck? Is that even possible?

100% agree.signal wrote Sat Jun 03, 2023 8:24 am:I would say that over drafting a QB that busts in the first round is far worse. First round picks should become starters on the team and you are looking hopefully at getting a playmaker. In the fourth round, your expectations are simply not that high. You hope that the player will turn into a starter, but history tells you that the percentages are that most starters come from the first three rounds.
So, if Z swung and missed on O'Connell, I for one will not be here moaning about it. Raiders need to continue to swing for that position and if that swing takes place in the fourth round instead of the fifth round....well, damn, not sure I will even give it a moments thought. From what I have read Z really likes this guy. Could he be mistaken.? Yep. Sure he could be. But a mistake in the fourth or taking a risk in the fourth is that what we should be concerned with?
Past regime was wasting first round picks by the bushels and we should step back and be concerned because Z took a risk in the 4th round on a QB he really likes? Wow has the line moved.

Some praise from teammates, FWIW.He might be starting before the season is over. At least he's not stinking up the field I guess LOLRookie quarterback earning praise from the defense during mini camp
He caught the eye of cornerback Brandon Facyson. He admired how well he had competed while on the field against the defense.
“I think he’s doing a great job. He’s going against a good defense, and we’re going against a good offense. As he’s coming in learning, he’s a new quarterback, and I know it’s his first time being in the league. So, regardless of how good or how bad the day goes, it’s just something to look forward to the next day because he’s learning. So, I think he’s doing a fantastic job though.”
O’Connell coming in and picking up the offense at a fast pace is a good sign for his outlook as an NFL player. He might have his name called earlier than expected with the injury history of Garoppolo and the age of Brian Hoyer.

Hopefully he plays well. I noticed the ball almost seems heavy or slow when he throws it. He doesnt seem to just effortlessly flick it out there. Maybe its just an optical illusion. It could be he is simply just the new Brian Hoyer backup and not the new Tom Brady starter.Raider727 wrote Sun Jul 02, 2023 1:12 pm:https://youtube.com/watch?v=t7rQrl2pPQY

Evan Brady didn't start as a starter.rich72 wrote Sun Jul 02, 2023 2:01 pm:Hopefully he plays well. I noticed the ball almost seems heavy or slow when he throws it. I agree his velocity doesn't look good but he sure is accurate.rich72 wrote Sun Jul 02, 2023 2:01 pm:Hopefully he plays well. I noticed the ball almost seems heavy or slow when he throws it. Fully agree. I would much rather be going into this season with Stiddy and O'Connell as the backups. I understand that Hoyer brings experience, but think Stiddy would have have brought that AND potential.Raider727 wrote Sun Jul 02, 2023 3:12 pm:I agree his velocity doesn't look good but he sure is accurate.
Garoppolo doesn't throw with velocity either, neither does Purdy who still played well last year as Garoppolo's backup.
I just don’t want to see Hoyer play at all, would rather see what the Raiders have with O’Connell and give him the reps.
The Raiders imo made a mistake in giving Stidham only the last 2 games of the season to see his worth.
FLORIDARAYDAH » Sun Jul 02, 2023 4:05 pm
Stidham signed right away. Not sure if he wanted no part of the Raiders or they wanted no part of him. I was hoping to keep him on. I thought when he left so quickly he knew we were taking a QB in the 1st. He didn't sign for a huge amount In curious what was said behind closed doorssignal wrote Sun Jul 02, 2023 3:15 pm:Fully agree.
