The problem is that it's been a pretty mediocre effort at a rebuild in the first place. Personally I'm not buying that Mayock and Gruden left a worse roster than the one Ziegler/McDaniels have created. It was the current regime that extended the contracts of the previous regimes' players only to renege on every single one of those transactions. I include Hunter in that equation because he's basically dead cap space at this point. The only thing we can infer is that this wasn't a rebuild, and they thought they could win with the existing players, but couldn't. So they took their medicine and turned over the roster and now they can't win with their own players either.Attyla wrote Tue Sep 19, 2023 7:40 am:Have they failed? If you are grading in the moment, sure. If you are grading the potential? As of right now that potential is also a fail. But they also have turned over almost the entire roster in 2 off seasons. Go ahead and count the bodies. I gave up in the mid thirties and still had a decent amount of the list left. Hate to break it to everyone who wanted to deny it, but we are in year two of a full on rebuild. Jimmy is a bridge, Adams will have 2 wasted seasons and we are rebuilding yet again. There can be no other conclusion drawn given the vast roster change. I just hope we see the end of the tunnel at the end of this year.

Much of what you say I agree with. I think spending that first year seeing if they could get Carr to play their style was part of the negotiations when they were brought over. I do think the Gruden fielded team was bad. And I do think losing on those high draft picks hurts more than people are willing to admit.NoThanksSir wrote Tue Sep 19, 2023 11:09 am:The problem is that it's been a pretty mediocre effort at a rebuild in the first place. The truth is that perpetual basement orgs like the Dolphins can go from zero to hero in no time without the excuse of needing several years to undo the damage the previous regime did. This "previous regime" excuse is just a loser's mentality and holding out hope in the face of hopelessness. It's unfortunate because our fan base deserves better.

Let us speak the unspeakable. If we're 2-6 or worse after eight games, do we fire McD and see if Interim Head Coach Rob Ryan (the most likely in-house successor, given that we have no assistants with HC experience) can light a fire? Our bye week isn't until Week 13, which would be too late to do anything meaningful.Attyla wrote Tue Sep 19, 2023 11:39 am:Much of what you say I agree with. That being said, if what I think is true and this is a rebuild, it would stand to reason that this is the first year of it. The turnover has been staggering to say the least. Am I happy where we are at? Not in the least. We beat a team we were supposed to beat and we got killed by a team we were supposed to be able to hang with. I am not sure if we can get to my low end 6 wins after this last week.

Why not let Patrick Graham go & make Rob Ryan the DC? If you want a Ryan as a HC, get Rex Ryan, not Rob Ryan.Sir Raider Duck, OMS wrote Tue Sep 19, 2023 1:30 pm:Let us speak the unspeakable. I do not think McDaniels gets fired in season. If and to me it is still a big if, he gets fired, it would be after the season. I think it would take a full on mutiny among the players to get him fired in season and I do not see that happening.Sir Raider Duck, OMS wrote Tue Sep 19, 2023 1:30 pm:Let us speak the unspeakable. you said neither. Since the post above yours said get Rex and not Rob I assumed you were referring to those two.vtraider wrote Tue Sep 19, 2023 1:44 pm:Yeah but I was talking about Rob

I was thinking Rob Ryan because, unlike promoting OC Lombardi or DC Graham, promoting Ryan wouldn't pull any current coordinator or position coach away from their duties.silver_ghost wrote Tue Sep 19, 2023 1:35 pm:Why not let Patrick Graham go & make Rob Ryan the DC? I could get on board with Rex Ryan as DC. Sadly, I think he'll end up in Denver as VJ will be getting fired soon I'm suresilver_ghost wrote Tue Sep 19, 2023 1:35 pm:Why not let Patrick Graham go & make Rob Ryan the DC? If you want a Ryan as a HC, get Rex Ryan, not Rob Ryan.

I'm just tired of a coaching staff that doesn't adapt and refuses to play players to their strengths. Gruden was the king of this and it seems that McDaniels is going the same route. I hate the idea of switching to yet another coaching staff but the idea of a young innovative mind with the QBs coming out next year is damn enticing.
