We could do the niners thing and build the trenches, especially defensive line, until almost any QB would succeed.Willmark wrote Mon Nov 13, 2023 8:40 pm:The alternative is doing nothing and we just saw what that got us over nearly the last ten years.

Not a good comparison.VEfreak wrote Mon Nov 13, 2023 11:43 am:Basically do what Purdy did his first year. Play with poise, get better every game, and avoid big mistakes that contribute to a loss.

I’m well aware that we are not as good as the niners last year. It’ll be a judgement call no matter what.16 to 88 wrote Mon Nov 13, 2023 9:13 pm:Not a good comparison.
Purdy's team had iNsAnE rushing totals in all those games he played (121, 209, 170, 153, 170, 169), and he had one of the best defenses in all of football to either keep the game close or make the opponent look silly. In the 6 regular season games played he was sacked 11 times, he had the same HC/OC the entire season and the majority of those games were at home.
In stark contrast, we are one of the worst rushing teams in the NFL. We have a middle of the road defense and our offense has already surrendered 10 sacks in just 3 1/2 games worth of football he has played while he has also had to endure a HC/OC change.
Anyway, pretty sure the coaches will know what they have by the end of it all.

Hopefully he ends up being our long term answer. Regardless of how he plays we will draft at least one QB because we need more QBs under contract for next year. As a few others have stated, just pick PBA and don’t waste draft capital chasing a QB, build the roster.Sea of Hands » Tue Nov 14, 2023 8:25 am

Agreed. It all starts in the trenches. Both can be done if the scouting dept does their homework IMO.VEfreak wrote Mon Nov 13, 2023 8:53 pm:We could do the niners thing and build the trenches, especially defensive line, until almost any QB would succeed.

I think AOC has shown well but there’s nothing about him that wows you as to me he looks like a high floor, low ceiling guy as he’s not exactly young for a rookie as there are lots of players on the roster a from a few drafts ago that are younger than him. That’s a solid find in the 4th round but this organization has to prioritize finding the next guy and I have to think they will be drafting a QB in the first two rounds regardless of how things play out this season.DeathStar24 » Tue Nov 14, 2023 8:50 am
Prove he can at least hang with the big boys. This week for example, on the road against a team who dropped 70 this season.Attyla » Tue Nov 14, 2023 9:00 am

You keep drafting QB's until you have a super bowl caliber talent. There is no single metric that will assist in this endeavor. Careers are determined on the ability to find a franchise signal caller. Pete Carroll was on his way out the door before he found Wilson. The best I can say is you know it when you see it. I think O'Connell has the potential to get there, but he has not flashed that level of talent yet. He hasn't shown the ability to dominate a game and elevate the performance of the entire team around him. Until he does so it's necessary to do your due diligence with the talent coming out each year.DanKD » Tue Nov 14, 2023 9:50 am
I like what i see so far. Now will he be an elite franchise QB? Probably not but you can be really successful with a solid QB on their rookie contract by building up the rest of your team with that money. That may be the raiders best chance at being a contender in the next few years.raiders93 » Tue Nov 14, 2023 10:01 am
Yep. To me that’s - when you’ve gotta make plays with your arm… does it seem more surprising when you don’t make the play; or is it surprising when you do?NoThanksSir wrote Tue Nov 14, 2023 9:05 am:You keep drafting QB's until you have a super bowl caliber talent.
