We can make all the excuses in the world for him (like we did the last guy) but eventually if he is going to be the guy, he has to look like the guy.
Nothing would make me happier than to see him get his footing these last 5 weeks. But right now Im ready to draft a QB if he doesnt step up pretty quick. I want to see a dominant performance from the kid. Something to build on. Right now he looks wobbly and unsure. Its to be expected, but I would love one game that makes you go "he is the guy"
He had a few games and a bye week. We should see some decent improvement this week.

How's come there's no headlines or articles that JH has been telling recruits and potential high caliber transfers that he plans on being at Michigan for the foreseeable future? It’s worth noting, however, that this is a deep QB class, and even tho we will probably finish outside the top 10 picks, there’s a good chance a high upside player will fall to us. It wouldn’t upset me if the brass decided they love a player like Penix and take a chance on him. If the opportunity is there without trading up, it might make sense for us to roll the dice. But I wouldn’t take a QB just to take one, there’s no guarantee they will be better than AO just because he’s a 1st rounder. If I was the GM I wouldn’t settle for a QB that I am lukewarm, I’d only take one in the 1st if I absolutely loved them
Potentially bring Eberflus with him to recreate the Colts coaching staff. That was always well coached.
Consider this...
Jimmy G had been in the league 10 years, knew and had played in McDaniels system previously. He had the playbook in his hand mid March. He has been to the playoffs, been in big games, seen countless defenses in the NFL, practiced against great defenses, is beyond well adjusted to the speed of the game, knows all the in's and out's of the NFL game. Been there done that umpteen times.
Adian is a rookie, he was drafted by our team at the very end of April. Before that he spent his offseason preparing for the NFL draft. He didn't sign his contract until mid May and likely got the playbook at our OTA's a week later, now let's stop right here. Think about this for a second who is way ahead of the game and who is way behind the curve at this point?
Now it's time for the offseason, which, none of the offseason program is padded practice. While he was the 3rd QB on the roster he was never running with the 1's in any of this. That was all Garapollo. There is no way of him getting in sync with the players you are actually playing with in real games. He was forced into action on a very quick stint on a short week after a Monday night game before the chargers game. The following week after that game it was right back to the bottom of the depth chart and no more running with the 1's.
Talk about getting the short end of the stick to get your first NFL start. In that game he was 24/39 238 yards 0TD 1INT and sacked 7 times! As in... 7 times in one game. At least he received massive support from the run game with a total of... 73 yards rushing (eye roll). So despite being sacked 7 times and getting little support from the run game we were still in that game to the very end and if McDaniels had simply run the ball with 4 times at 1st and goal we probably win that game instead he called a pass play on 1st down, Aidan throws his only interception of the game and we lose.
It's dumb football. We were told by McDaniels "this isn't preseason" when asked about Adian starting. So, he's finally handed the reigns to the 1's and made the starter 5 weeks later by Antonio. Jimmy has had to face 1 top 10 defense in the league in contrast Adian has had to face 3. Now with all this in mind let's see how they have faired.
Garoppolo 110/168 1205 yards 65.5 comp% 7TD 9INT
O'Connell 113/178 1194 yards 63.5 comp% 4TD 6INT
Stroud 268/418 3540 yards 63.4 comp% 20TD 5INT
Young 231/381 2055 yards 60.6 comp% 9TD 9INT
Levis 107/185 1266 yards 57.8 comp% 7TD 2INT
All the other rookie quarterback class is not even worth discussing at this point. They are all far behind Stroud, Young, Levis and O'Connell. Interesting to note...
Stroud, while he has been fantastic and has been a rare find among rookie quarterbacks he has faced in his 12 games just 3 top 10 defenses in football losing to all 3.
Young, is the only other quarterback besides O'Connell to lose his HC however they retained their OC and he had his HC for an additional 3 games more than Adian. Also in stark contrast, he has been running with the 1's the entire time, has played in more games than Adian has a better rushing attack and a top 10 defense to lean on. Out of the 13 games they have played only 3 have been against top 10 defenses and he has lost to all 3. He has only won 1 game at this point.
Levis, was afforded the luxury to sit and learn from the offseason all the way to there bye week. Coming off of that bye week they played the falcons at home. This was by far his best game and turning heads in the NFL. Not to be overlooked is they ran for 146 yards in that game as well. However in the games since the bye week he has looked nothing like the guy he was in that game losing 3 straight with his only other win coming against the worst team in football, the panthers, at home. In his 6 games he has faced 2 to the top 10 defenses in football.

Hum I dont know about that, O'Connell has a future HOFer in Adams, last years rushing leader in Jacobs, Myers, renfrow, mayer.... im mean that is a pretty stacked roster for a rookie QB. He’s doing less with more really. Raiders have a top RB, HOF WR, Meyers is a #1 WR on some teams. Renfrow is very solid, stud rookie TE in Mayer and an average offensive line. Tell me what rookie quarterback this season has had better tools to work with than AOC? Certainly not Stroud, Young or Levis. I agree. The only thing O'Connell has lacked is time as the #1 guy prepping with the 1's - and now that he's had 4 weeks in that role we should expect to see some of the development that comes from that. The difference between AO and the last guy is that AO is on a 4th round rookie deal. The way I see it, we have some flexibility as a result — if we don’t see a QB we love, it’s very cheap to continue to evaluate AO while making this roster much more complete via Best Player Available. Eventually we will need to upgrade AO if he’s not the guy, but in some ways we’re playing with house money until the time comes to make a contract decision with him. I'm not going to be rude and laugh but there's zero chance Mark takes a flyer on Reich as head coach after the disastrous season he just had. He's the one head coach this season that rivals McDaniels for incompetence. Zero chance.
