Definitely think the Raiders are looking to draft a QB but adding Minshew means that no one will be holding a gun to their head to get one. In short, the level of desperation is down and TT can approach the draft with reason and objectivity instead of irrational desperation.chucker wrote Tue Mar 12, 2024 7:56 am:I think letting Eluemunor walk is another sign that the GM holds the purse strings, and won't pay more than market - even if the head coach loves the guy.
Signing Minshew also provides some doubt around the league about what the Raiders will do in the draft at QB. I still hope they're willing to be aggressive if they have a chance at a QB they like in the draft.

I am certain TT will still approach the draft aggressively but not recklessly looking to add to the QB room. And yes, it allows for at least the appearance that the Raiders are not a desperate team trying to move up so that other teams can hold them captive and rape them in a trade.
The more I think about it, the more I like the pickup of Minshew. As your post points out, it is almost as if it gives him some leverage going into the draft that otherwise he would not have had.

I'm hoping for a QB early, but where we're picking, gonna be awfully tough to pass up the CB, OT, even DT talent that will likely be there. Guess I'm gonna trust this regime until they prove I can't. So far so good!chucker wrote Tue Mar 12, 2024 2:38 pm:I think a few select RF.com posters might have a gun to his head.

Good CBs are so valuable but 1st round CBs scare me. Maybe I'm misremembering, but it seems like there are a lot of misses there.Amish Cabal wrote Tue Mar 12, 2024 3:03 pm:I'm hoping for a QB early, but where we're picking, gonna be awfully tough to pass up the CB, OT, even DT talent that will likely be there. I'm not just talking about the Raiders missing on CBs in the first - It feels like it's common across the league.Amish Cabal wrote Tue Mar 12, 2024 3:09 pm:Whole new regime brother... keep the faith man!

Yeah i wonder what cbs look like compared to other positions. We have a terrible cb drafting history so that may have tainted our view.chucker wrote Tue Mar 12, 2024 3:11 pm:I'm not just talking about the Raiders missing on CBs in the first - It feels like it's common across the league.

Chucker....with this front there should be nothing but pressure up front that should greatly cut down on the amount of time the secondary needs to cover...in theory correct?chucker wrote Tue Mar 12, 2024 3:05 pm:Good CBs are so valuable but 1st round CBs scare me. I hope we draft a couple of guards who are, or could develop into, road graders.Sold My Soul wrote Tue Mar 12, 2024 7:20 pm:Chucker....with this front there should be nothing but pressure up front that should greatly cut down on the amount of time the secondary needs to cover...in theory correct?
Raiders can get by with good.... not great CB's and safeties.
We need an offensive front.
At some point in the game the Raiders need to score points. Now that we are down a stud RB.....another area that also needs to be addressed.
Defense carried this team last year....time for the offense to help out and that won't happen unless money is spent on that side of the ball.
Raiders got a shitload of D coaches.......and they got the D.....
It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

I'll take those with a grain of salt. One of them indicates that S and LB are the riskiest prospects, the other indicates that they are the safest. Different metrics and different time spans, but still.DanKD wrote Tue Mar 12, 2024 3:22 pm:https://www.the33rdteam.com/assessing-f ... -position/

Cb seems towards the middle of the pack i guess.

It's just information. I think the sample size of S and LB on the more recent lists make that one less credible. One piece of info I do think is worthwhile is that offensive lineman tend to probably be just about the safest picks on the whole ranking very highly on both lists.srv5490 wrote Thu Mar 21, 2024 8:32 pm:I'll take those with a grain of salt.
