Keeps the hungry? Have you ever coached?Archaic wrote Sun Feb 04, 2024 12:15 pm:I understand Mark is making money, but that's no reason to keep eating coaches contracts. Mostly I favor 1-year contracts because it keeps the coaches hungry . Consider that this season as interim AP was motivated to prove things, and that hunger helped the team.

Why?chucker wrote Sun Feb 04, 2024 8:33 am:There's a good chance we'll never know the details. A one year deal would be stupid, but AP is one of the few guys who might actually accept it because he believes in himself. His agent, however, would never accept it and the Raiders would be assholes for even proposing it.
I do not believe the structure and magnitude of a contract will not impact the way AP does his job in any way - in fact it's better for the team to have multiple years so that the team is committed to him and operating like he's here to stay. AP is going to work and lead like he's going to be the Raiders' head coach for life regardless.

While a player can bet on himself like that. All he has to worry about is that one year. A hc has to plan not only for that year but also for future years in how he plans to build the roster and develop players. Plus how many free agents are going to want to play for a coach on a one year deal? You might get some that are just wanting a paycheck. But you won't get any serious playersSold My Soul wrote Sun Feb 04, 2024 6:47 pm:Why?
Coaches/players do it all the time when they have either no experience or those that want to prove their worth.
I think a 1 year prove me contract would not be out of the question.
Were you not in favor of a contract offered to JJ?
Who is worth a bigger contract....
Mad Maxx or AP?
Who's worth a contract extension....
AP or PG?
Stunning to me some of the hires.
But, for those that blindly follow, I understand.

When you own your own team, give it a tryArchaic wrote Sun Feb 04, 2024 12:15 pm:I understand Mark is making money, but that's no reason to keep eating coaches contracts. i'd say 3 years @$5-6m per with escalators based on playoffs, etc. and 4,5 year option
