That’s what I’m guessing too. I was loving the possibility of trading back & getting JJ or Penix. Doesn’t seem like either will last till end of the first, much less the secondAttyla wrote Tue Mar 05, 2024 3:25 pm:Penix did the most to improve his position among QBs but I still see mocks with him in the 2nd. I suspect when FA is over and the individual workouts are done he will move into the mid first round

In terms of injury, I guess they’re somewhat similar. That’s where the similarities end. Their game is nothing alike. I never liked Hooker. Penix is a far better passing QB, overall QB prospect.rich72 wrote Tue Mar 05, 2024 6:50 pm:Penix is alot like hooker from last years draft, everyone kind of liked him but he had a lenthy injury history.

Yeah, don't want to outthink yourself.Raider727 wrote Tue Mar 05, 2024 5:05 pm:If the plan is to draft a qb, just draft him at 13, no reason to get cute trading back and possibly missing out.

I could see that, maybe early in the 3rd round. Get rid of Hoyer though and bring in Baker mayfield.RickRyb wrote Tue Mar 05, 2024 8:31 pm:Draft Penix. Open competition between Penix and O'Connell. Keep Hoyer as the vet.

With all the qb needy teams, no way Penix makes it to the 3rd round.rich72 wrote Tue Mar 05, 2024 10:52 pm:I could see that, maybe early in the 3rd round. Get rid of Hoyer though and bring in Baker mayfield.

I am watching a few of his games right now, and frankly he looks NFL ready. I know the injury thing is a concern, but he can make all the throws and his accuracy is right there where you want to be. The game vs Oregon he looked very good. He threw really good at the underwear olympics and I am sure he is going to look good again during his pro day. Good height, good build and he will put another 10LBs once he gets to the pros.RickRyb wrote Tue Mar 05, 2024 8:31 pm:Draft Penix. Open competition between Penix and O'Connell. Keep Hoyer as the vet.

yep, predicting draft picks right now is not going to get you far. I think you have to get into late March before you can paint a more accurate picture of what a team may or may not do. I started focusing on Penix far more after the combine just because I thought he looked the best of the guys who threw. If our QB room remains with O'Connell as the top guy in late March, I would start focusing on the possible QB's out there to be drafted.GUYDON wrote Wed Mar 06, 2024 9:31 am:What we do in FA in a few days will speak volumes about our first pick.

My guess is with a few of our own free agents. That we sign one dt (Jones, Wilkins, Williams). And at least one outside offensive lineman. Probably a guardGUYDON wrote Wed Mar 06, 2024 9:31 am:What we do in FA in a few days will speak volumes about our first pick.

TT stated unequivocally in an interview that mocks drafts before FA are a waste of time. They don't even start getting into their draft strategy and scenarios until about April 1st...GUYDON wrote Wed Mar 06, 2024 9:31 am:What we do in FA in a few days will speak volumes about our first pick.

mock drafts are not for teams, they are for fans. It is like the "draft advisory committee." Who are they actually advising? Not teams, they are advising players. Teams use their own resources to determine their big board. The mocks are there to create conversation among fans and to get hits on websites which generate revenue. Guys bash Kiper every year because he rarely gets it right. Guys hate Kiper. But Kiper created the industry and is still the face of mock drafts. The genius of Kiper is creating conversation, and every year right after the season is over, it is Kiper time. He is rich because of the hate because the antagonist is always far more interesting than the protagonist. You root for the hero but you need the villain to make it interesting. Waste of time? Sure, but it draws fans in and creates the conversations that keep the fans running the maze in search of the next pellet of food.16 to 88 wrote Wed Mar 06, 2024 8:47 pm:TT stated unequivocally in an interview that mocks drafts before FA are a waste of time.
