Yep....... The Bears traded up to get Trubisky, well ahead of Mahomes and Watson.signal wrote Mon Mar 04, 2024 12:01 pm:We have similar takes. I like Penix also but his injury history does concern me a bit. But do like the tools he brings to the table.
It is definitely not out of the realm of possibilities that one of the 2nd tier QBs turns out to be one of the better NFL QBs in this draft.

Michael Vick, but that depends if you view Vick as a success. Chargers technically had Brees on their roster but Flutie was their QB that year.chucker wrote Mon Mar 04, 2024 10:53 am:Has a team without a franchise QB on the roster ever traded out of the top 3 to a team that takes a QB when that drafted QB turned out to be successful? I think the Wentz draft pick came from the Browns? I'd call him a successful pick because of his hot start, even if he flamed out early.
If a team is willing to trade out, they likely see some issues with the available QBs I guess.

Good one - I'd call Vick a successful draft pick..... that was a heckuva draft move by the Chargers though getting Tomlinson and Brees, even if they gave up on Brees too soon. That was in the days when RBs were the key to a lot of offenses.Attyla wrote Mon Mar 04, 2024 12:17 pm:Michael Vick, but that depends if you view Vick as a success. Watson is close, he went 4th and the Browns had crap at QB. Ironic that Watson is now a Brown.
Maybe the Bears in 3 years?

I think Watson went 12 or 13 - definitely after Mahomes.
The other thing that was different back then - you used to need to adapt your offense to make use of a mobile QB. Now you have to adapt your offense to adapt to an immobile QB.

Its crazy how some of these QB's in college seem like cant miss superheros, then they get to the NFL and flat out suck.chucker wrote Mon Mar 04, 2024 12:14 pm:Yep....... The Bears traded up to get Trubisky, well ahead of Mahomes and Watson.

The Bears are where young QB’s go to die. They can’t draft one to save their liveschucker wrote Mon Mar 04, 2024 12:14 pm:Yep....... The Bears traded up to get Trubisky, well ahead of Mahomes and Watson.

I think one of the more common quotes from any rookie is how much faster the NFL is than college and that would obviously affect the guy under center more than most.rich72 wrote Mon Mar 04, 2024 1:06 pm: Its crazy how some of these QB's in college seem like cant miss superheros, then they get to the NFL and flat out suck.

We never draft any high enough so it doesn’t really apply to us. We’ve drafted 3 QB’s in the first round in my lifetime.Dr Death wrote Thu Mar 07, 2024 3:09 am:"Those who live in glass houses"...?

And how many of those QB's are drafted in an absolute worse case scenario with bad coaches and front office management?AdamJoshua28 wrote Thu Mar 07, 2024 5:08 am:I think one of the more common quotes from any rookie is how much faster the NFL is than college and that would obviously affect the guy under center more than most.

Went to the draft wiki to see who they were (Dickey, Wilson, Jabustus) and it is just staggering how many picks Al traded away. It worked until the mid 80's, and then his way went out of style.Marzan wrote Thu Mar 07, 2024 12:27 pm:We never draft any high enough so it doesn’t really apply to us.
