Good in college, has had an up and down pro career, last year was pretty bad. Was better as a center. But he can be moved around to most any position on the line. Mostly better as an interior guysheavyD wrote Mon Apr 15, 2024 7:45 am:A connection to Getsy? I don’t know much about him but he graded out poorly by PFF.

There's nothing special about Whitehair, but he has had some good years in the past - I think he got benched last season. I like him better as depth than DJ Fluker. I kinda figured we'd end up signing him at some point, given he familiarity with Getsy. Decent, low key pickup - not enough money to impact compensatory pick formula.WolfRaider » Mon Apr 15, 2024 8:14 am
Massive weak link last year, played terrible too but was once a good Gaurd.heavyD wrote Mon Apr 15, 2024 7:45 am:A connection to Getsy? I don’t know much about him but he graded out poorly by PFF.

Yes, the cupboards are pretty much bare when it comes to the guard position. The Raiders need more depth at the position, hell, they need some damn bodies in there and at least this player does come with some experience at the NFL level.chucker wrote Mon Apr 15, 2024 8:04 am:There's nothing special about Whitehair, but he has had some good years in the past - I think he got benched last season. STILL not understanding the abandonment of Van Roten.WolfRaider wrote Mon Apr 15, 2024 8:14 am:Massive weak link last year, played terrible too but was once a good Gaurd.
I think it’s a depth option and somebody that knows the run scheme

He hasn’t signed anywhere yet so there could be a reason. Maybe he’s looking for more money than anyone thinks he’s worth.BigJerk wrote Mon Apr 15, 2024 9:47 am:STILL not understanding the abandonment of Van Roten.

At age 34, it will probably be his last contract, so yes, probably angling for the best contract he can get and possibly looking for more than a year.chucker wrote Mon Apr 15, 2024 10:08 am:He hasn’t signed anywhere yet so there could be a reason. Right, I forgot he was released so it couldn't end up in the comp pick formula. The contract isn't big enough that he would have factored in anyway.DanKD wrote Mon Apr 15, 2024 11:28 am:Cody signed for a mega last contract with fhe bears so he was good enough at one time. Was awful last year though. Good depth signing and he was released so no comp loss.

He had a really good PFF grade last year so his agent might have been angling for bigger money, especially when seeing good, not great, guards get big paydays in FA. It was an outlier year at age 33 though so I wouldn't expect teams to play along with that idea.signal wrote Mon Apr 15, 2024 11:07 am:At age 34, it will probably be his last contract, so yes, probably angling for the best contract he can get and possibly looking for more than a year.

Yeah. Before this past season, the guard we just signed would have been in much higher demand than Van Roten. Van Roten was much better this past season but i wouldn't expect a repeat.chucker wrote Mon Apr 15, 2024 12:14 pm:He had a really good PFF grade last year so his agent might have been angling for bigger money, especially when seeing good, not great, guards get big paydays in FA.
