I just want the draft to get here. NOW, dammit!Jeevo » Fri Mar 22, 2024 9:33 am
I don't mind that order either, just thinking if the top D-line guy falls and we're convinced he's a gamer then I'd seriously consider it. I actually think we could trade back, esp if we were targeting a player that didn't fall to us.
Nor_Cal_Raider » Fri Mar 22, 2024 9:51 am
There seems to be more depth at the OL position so I'd lean towards the top CB at 13. I think we have a better chance of beating KC with a top defense than getting into an offensive shoot-out. Besides, i really want a fierce defense. It's been a long time.......Guru » Fri Mar 22, 2024 11:40 pm
If we don't get a shot at a QB we want... then I'm totally fine with them going pure BPA or trading down.Be_Easy_25 wrote Fri Mar 22, 2024 1:44 am:A dominant D-line means just about everything.
With a chance to make an elite one, I would not complicate the analysis of Byron Murphy. Kid can ball. Absent any character red flags or out chance at QB, we need to take this swing. If he doesn’t turn out to be great, D-line will still be good.
Dominant D-Line > Balanced roster.
Yes. I will take weaknesses or weaker areas on the roster (Not QB) to have that dominant D-line.
Nobody should understand this more than Antonio Pierce. A “good” (not great) LB in his time but the true beneficiary of one of the best pressure getting D-lines ever.

That'd be fine with me. I'm a proponent of you can never have enough linemen, offensive or defensive. I know we got Tyree last year and are hoping he can take the next step but outside of him we only have one other guy in Koonce, who showed flashes and played well at times but is still a relative question mark. Can he continue? What happens now that offenses know of him and will adjust to him? What happens if he gets injured and is out for an extended period of time?chucker wrote Fri Mar 22, 2024 8:09 am:I don't know that any more significant moves need to be made in FA, but if we don't go QB in the 1st there's a possibility that BPA could be an edge rusher, with so many offensive players expected to go early.

I, personally am not a talent evaluator and you probably know more about these players than I do but when I look at the draft scenario this year, I do think the Raiders are in perfect situation to pick up an OT. At #13 I do think it likely that one of them will fall to them and it is a position of need.Guru wrote Fri Mar 22, 2024 11:40 pm:If we don't get a shot at a QB we want... then I'm totally fine with them going pure BPA or trading down.
I don't find any of the CB's outstanding. I like Quinyon a lot. Arnold meh... Kool Aid and Wiggins? Not at #13... I've also never been a huge fan of drafting a high school / college LT and hoping to flip him to RT at #13. You need a day 1 impact starter with a top #15 pick in our shoes... Fuaga or Latham would be plug and play but maybe a smidge high at #13 and questionable fits in our new outside zone blocking scheme that Telesco just confirmed we're rolling with.
Nabers / MHJ are both elite blue chip prospects... we don't need a WR.... BUT if they fall to #13 I think you still run to the podium. Unlikely they fall that far. True blue chip.
I don't think you can commit another major chunk of capital to DE with Crosby, Koonce breaking out and a Tyree. I also don't think you've got a genuine blue chip DE who'd be worth the BPA at #13.
I can't help but get excited about the prospect of a dude like BYRON MURPHY II on our DL next to Wilkins and Maxx.... but I do worry about shorter DT's against NFL OG's who are long, strong and have the technique too. His production wasn't great at Texas either... perhaps not an early down DT right off the bat, as can see him getting pushed around against the run, but would make an impact rushing the passer as a rookie. Think Jurrell Casey / Ed Oliver...

If you want to know more about our Dline room and about the coaching, watch the latest Maxx podcast - Crosby, Koonce, Jenkins, Butler and Wilson all on together, plus a bonus with Rob Leonard explaining the step by step approach to helping Koonce develop. Awesome information, and Leonard's explanation of improving Koonce's technique was great and really brings to light how a guy can look stagnant for a while and then "suddenly" break out. At least it did that for me.Hellbound wrote Sat Mar 23, 2024 5:10 am:That'd be fine with me. I'm a proponent of you can never have enough linemen, offensive or defensive. I know we like to think the dline is pretty much set but if you take a step back, it's still fairly thin and could still use depth. Plus with another edge/or dt you can rotate more.
Throw me in a group that thinks we can get by with the QBs on the roster right now and just do it the right way and build both lines because it won't matter who the qb is if both lines are subpar

I find his podcasts a little too scattered much of the time, but I'll probably watch this one twice - I'll definitely watch the Rob Leonard part again.Hellbound wrote Sat Mar 23, 2024 6:30 am:I saw his new one dropped. Haven't caught it yet but it's on the list for this wkd

Search youtube for Maxx crosby, or go to the link I posted to yesterday's pod in the Maxx thread. Or if you just want to listen, search for the Rush with Maxx on spotify or wherever. I usually just listen, but I watched this one so I could keep the people straight because there were so many on at one time.Nor_Cal_Raider wrote Sat Mar 23, 2024 7:09 am:Where can I find the podcasts?

Yes, there’s nothing quite like picking off Kermit, is there? Jack Jones staring him down as he returned that baited pick was a beautiful sight!Nor_Cal_Raider wrote Fri Mar 22, 2024 9:51 am:There seems to be more depth at the OL position so I'd lean towards the top CB at 13. We lost Van Roten and Eluemunor, who weren't great but were starters. Who do we have on the right side?Nor_Cal_Raider wrote Fri Mar 22, 2024 9:51 am:There seems to be more depth at the OL position so I'd lean towards the top CB at 13. The right side is probably among the thinnest in the entire league at the moment. I think Munford is the only viable piece as of right now.Amish Cabal wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 5:16 am:We lost Van Roten and Eluemunor, who weren't great but were starters. Who do we have on the right side?

You and me both. And I see some wrecking ball O linemen at the top of this draft. I'd hate to miss the chance to build the trench when it's there. Maxx and Wilkins on D, how bout Miller and Latham (or Fuaga) on O?signal wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 5:55 am:The right side is probably among the thinnest in the entire league at the moment. TT needs to find a bull dozer for the right side at guard. And yes, needs to find another OT who will compete with Munford.
That said, TT has made remarks that suggest he is fully aware that this unit needs an influx of talent so am not very worried about it quite yet. But if things don't change in a month or so.....damn, count me in that group that will be very worried.
