That is silly talk. I do not care that Garopablow played for a better team. The fact remains that you can not play a noodle armed QB who has difficulties throwing the ball beyond 20 yards. We all saw how defenses moved up because half the field was not in play when Jimmy was at QB. He will be out of the league after this year.STHfrontrow wrote Sat Mar 23, 2024 8:13 pm:Has Min ever been to a playoff game like Garapablow? Has he won one as a starting QB like Garapablow?
The Raiders were able to sign Min because he is a journey man QB who most didn't want. I'm guessing other teams would prefer AO4 and his contract/potential.

I’m not sure if he was ever that good. A lot of those 49ers teams seemed to win in spite of him a lot of the time as he still made a lot of bonehead plays and has never been able to throw deep. They sent his last three seasons there trying to replace him for a reason.Xramfan wrote Sun Mar 24, 2024 12:01 pm:Jimmy G wasn't a bad QB a few years ago. I think his injuries really caught up to him.

He consistently had good games his first year and second year but kept getting injured. When healthy, many Niner fans figured him as their guy. He couldn’t stay on the field. Last year he was just plain bad with no hope of being good so that’s why I’m suspecting his injuries finally caught up to him.heavyD wrote Sun Mar 24, 2024 1:38 pm:I’m not sure if he was ever that good. Sadly that same philosophy worked with AOC because he was a statue.RI RAIDER wrote Sun Mar 24, 2024 4:33 am:That is silly talk. I do not care that Garopablow played for a better team. And is that ever a bingo.RI RAIDER wrote Sat Mar 23, 2024 2:07 pm:Still better than Garopablow and AO if that is any consolation.

Agree. I think the QB room is much better right now than it was last season and it ain't even close and there is still a lot of offseason to go.16 to 88 wrote Sun Mar 24, 2024 8:27 pm:And is that ever a bingo.
This time last year we had JG, Hoyer and an unknown in AO. We all saw JG was washed, Hoyer was a never was but the brilliant McDaniels started him in Chicago despite players telling him not to and AO was a rookie who the brilliant McDaniels never allowed to work with anybody.
This year we have a guy in Gardner that can win games and AO in his second year. Just those two alone are a much better starting combination.

Because AO4 could throw down the field, I thought the run game improved quite a bit when he was under center. I thought JJ looked much better in the 2nd half of the season than he did in the first half and when White came in to take over when Josh went down, I thought he did well also.Sold My Soul wrote Sun Mar 24, 2024 5:04 pm:Sadly that same philosophy worked with AOC because he was a statue.
Most weeks it was a 2fer Sunday with the 7 man fronts overpowering the O-Line and shutting down the run.

Coach Pierce“At the end of the day, listen, Aidan O’Connell played his ass off. He did a helluva job for us,” Pierce said. “You’re talking about a kid that has the mental toughness to play in the National Football League. Whatever happens and whatever we do it has to go through Aidan O’Connell. Being honest with you because he’s earned that right. ...Like anybody else it’s all about competition. And if we can make that room the most competitive room on our team, the quarterback room, we’ll be a good football team.”

I agree with everything you said. I also value Minshew as a mentor and his experience in game prep, as well as his ability to start if he wins a competition. Some don't value the mentor / game prep role of a vet QB but I really do. It's not Madden, and the development and prep of young QBs is big and the time a QB coach/OC is allowed to spend with the player is not enough.Amish Cabal wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 7:58 am:Coach Pierce
And I agree.
Aiden had a couple tough games, but he also had some great ones, made sound decisions, connected with some long beautiful throws, protected the ball... in 1/2 of a rookie season with a rookie playcaller. He's not as good a runner as I'd like, but build that line and I think he'd do well for us. I think Minshew will be some good competition for him as well as mentor. I like him too. The QB room is definitely better now than it was last year, at a much smaller price. Can't wait to see who they draft.

I will admit that when I first heard the amount paid to acquire Minshew, my enthusiasm for the move was not spiked.chucker wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 8:07 am:I agree with everything you said. AOC to me looks like a guy that could benefit greatly from an offseason conditioning program. I don’t think he’s ever gonna be confused with a running quarterback but I would hope he could get himself more fit and a little quicker.Opoponax50 » Mon Mar 25, 2024 8:56 am
From what we actually know right now, his biggest drawback is his lack of mobility. I would be excited to see him starting for us were it not for that. IMO, it's not something that's going to improve in any dramatic way. Defenses won't have to worry about him burning them for a first down with his legs.heavyD wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 8:24 am:AOC to me looks like a guy that could benefit greatly from an offseason conditioning program.
