I believe I heard when the 3 talking heads were reporting on it. I doubt Ian R was quoting AP, but . . .chucker wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 4:30 pm:I wouldn't call it a "stat", as the 250 number is just something AP said in his meeting with media, which was filled with lies as all coaches' media briefings are.

I have no problem with banning this sort of tackle. The defending player can avoid landing on their opponents legs and still make an effective stop.

They may have been the most watched but it was due to massive advertising, hype and the Swift factor this year.Attyla wrote Thu Mar 21, 2024 8:05 am:I doubt revenues are going down. I do think the arc will not be as steep but revenues will increase. The last three Super Bowls were the most watched programs in the US (excluding the first lunar landing but they do not have hard numbers on that)

Sure, but the last three are the most watched shows in history, way before Swift etc. And sure, the NFL is about making money,, and they do it really well. And the revenue stream is not going to go down any time soon which was my point.islandboy wrote Tue Mar 26, 2024 4:36 am:They may have been the most watched but it was due to massive advertising, hype and the Swift factor this year.
But football purists and people who truly love the game see through the marketing and advertising crap.
The NFL is no longer about football. It is only about marketing and making money.

The number is a bit lower at least the one I heard on the NFL network but still remains just under one per game. Still surprises me a bit, I just guess I never really took much notice of them last year because I think I have a pretty good idea as to what it looks like when it happens.chucker wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 4:30 pm:I wouldn't call it a "stat", as the 250 number is just something AP said in his meeting with media, which was filled with lies as all coaches' media briefings are.

I so miss the days when it was all about the game. Now it's all hoopla and fireworks, drama, feel-good stories, and the holier than thou proselytizing about how the billionaires of the NFL care so very deeply about every social issue. Nauseating.islandboy wrote Tue Mar 26, 2024 4:36 am:They may have been the most watched but it was due to massive advertising, hype and the Swift factor this year.

AP's number could be the number that the NFL analysts came up with when prepping the competition committee, I just haven't seen an "official" number to know. IMO the NFL should let people know what the official count from 2023 is. It's highly relevant. The number of players who left a game with injury after one of those plays in 2023 is also highly relevant IMO, and it may lend real support for the rule.RickRyb wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 9:16 pm:I believe I heard when the 3 talking heads were reporting on it. And with most of these kinds of calls; the goal posts usually shift away from “did you break the rule?” — to — “did you do enough to avoid breaking the rule?”
The Jordan Travis one is probably the best example of what should be called if this goes thorough

The NFL has already done the homework and identified every 2023 play where they believe a flag would have been thrown under the new rule. In fairness to the players, they should have a compilation of all of those plays that is distributed to teams and especially to the players they believe violated the hip drop principles that will now be flagged.Sold My Soul » Tue Mar 26, 2024 4:49 pm
And that has worked so well with every other rule implemented right? C'mon Chucker....in a perfect world.... all calls are correct, but just like every other call, blown and phantom...this just adds another layer of bullshit incompetent refs have to try and call on the fly.chucker wrote Tue Mar 26, 2024 1:01 pm:The NFL has already done the homework and identified every 2023 play where they believe a flag would have been thrown under the new rule. Well.... of course that's what they're going to say they mean. I think we all know how this is going to play out in the real world.... especially for the Raiders.rich72 wrote Tue Mar 26, 2024 10:03 pm:Maybe they mean like intentional, im going to break your leg hip drops and not accidental ones where no one gets hurt.
