What do you guys think..Attyla » Mon Mar 25, 2024 1:52 pm
eventually they will add so much time to a game for replays from the booth that it will begin to frustrate the casual fan.signal » Mon Mar 25, 2024 2:00 pm
If knowing that they can be over ruled in real time on roughing the passer calls causes them to call less of them, I am all for it. There have been some fucking ridiculous roughing the passer calls in games and yes, they need to stop.heavyD » Mon Mar 25, 2024 2:08 pm
I like that only the replay assistant can overrule ticky tack roughing the passer calls. We just don’t want it as a coach challenge as there would be a lot of coaches fishing for calls on critical 3rd or 4th down plays where the QB gets hit.Hellbound » Mon Mar 25, 2024 2:48 pm
It also could easily go the other way. Throw a flag on anything questionable since it can get reviewedsignal wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 2:00 pm:If knowing that they can be over ruled in real time on roughing the passer calls causes them to call less of them, I am all for it. Kick off rule is intriguing. It would certainly force more returnschucker » Mon Mar 25, 2024 4:17 pm
I've been advocating for booth reviews of roughing the passer, and personal foul calls in general, for a while because they are so bad at it in real time. The concern with slowing down the game, IMO, is less of an issue because the flow of the game is already stopped and slowed by the fact there's a flag, the pacing off of the penalty, the announcement by the official.signal wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 2:00 pm:If knowing that they can be over ruled in real time on roughing the passer calls causes them to call less of them, I am all for it. I think this is going to be cool and eliminates guys running full speed for 30 yards each way and colliding like freight trains.Raidernation1979 wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 3:35 pm:Kick off rule is intriguing. It would certainly force more returns

Fully agree. There are simply too many shit calls for roughing the passer and at least this new rule gives them a chance to negate a good portion of those.chucker wrote Mon Mar 25, 2024 4:17 pm:I've been advocating for booth reviews of roughing the passer, and personal foul calls in general, for a while because they are so bad at it in real time. I do not want them to review plays where there was not a flag thrown because that would truly slow the game down, but reviewing the actual flags thrown is not a big deal.
It should also be considered that the NFL rules basically provide for bad officiating because this exact parameter is in the rulebook:
"When in doubt about a roughness call or potentially dangerous tactic against the quarterback, the Referee should always call roughing the passer."
Gee, I wonder why there are so many shitty ticky tack calls of roughing the passer? "When in doubt"?!?!? Fuck that.

If that new kickoff rule is passed then special teams will be busy this offseason.chucker » Tue Mar 26, 2024 6:11 am
I'm going to have to review the new kickoff rule, but with the changes to the kickoff rules over the years I admit that I don't actually know what the exact rule was last year. Maybe that's why I go to the bathroom during kickoffs.signal » Tue Mar 26, 2024 7:14 am
Trust me, if this new rule is passed, you won't even recognize the play. They are considering completely transforming the play into something else.chucker wrote Tue Mar 26, 2024 6:11 am:I'm going to have to review the new kickoff rule, but with the changes to the kickoff rules over the years I admit that I don't actually know what the exact rule was last year. The trade deadline got pushed a week later too. Probably doesn't deserve its own thread so I'll drop it here with the other rule changes. I like it.chucker » Tue Mar 26, 2024 7:47 am
This is a really good roster rule change - it's really good for the team and the player. Some players end up sitting out a full season even though they've recovered in time to play midseason so this gives a couple of opportunities to avoid that.
