The offseason is slow……… so, The Tropicana is closing down and will be demolished…. paves the way for the construction of a $1.5B Major League Baseball stadium that will house the Oakland Athletics.signal » Wed Apr 03, 2024 7:54 am
The NHL opened the door and the NFL bashed it in and it does not surprise me one bit that MLB is moving to LV.raider_kin » Wed Apr 03, 2024 8:06 am
Stayed there 30 years ago or so. Played golf on their course, enjoyed the pool with the swim up bar. That makes about 10 Vegas casinos I have been to over the years that are gone now. (started going there in 1981)Attyla » Wed Apr 03, 2024 8:24 am
Maybe I am in the minority but I never found the casinos in Vegas that appealing. Since I am not a gambler (I play poker but do not consider that gambling) and only a casual drinker (but I am a Whiskey guy and when I drink beer a snob) and find the shows to be almost worthless, I do not find the appeal. I never do strip clubs so the only real appeal of Vegas is the Raiders and they have priced me out of home games. Between overpriced flights, hotels, tickets and food, I actually have my doubts I will ever go to Vegas to see a game. I much prefer going to Europe for that kind of money..Xramfan » Wed Apr 03, 2024 9:23 am
Been to Vegas a handful of times and I agree with your take. Im not into the all nighters nor gambling or shows. As I said in the original stadium thread more than once, "Vegas is a toilet bowl dangled with Christmas lights".Attyla wrote Wed Apr 03, 2024 8:24 am:Maybe I am in the minority but I never found the casinos in Vegas that appealing. I’ve lived in Southern California. I spent a lot of time in Vegas. I spent a lot of time in the Baltimore Washington corridor grew up there. Nothing and I mean absolutely nothing that I’ve come across as worse than Orlando.352Raider wrote Wed Apr 03, 2024 9:29 am:I can't imagine how bad it would be to live near Vegas, living near Orlando is bad enough.

I'm sure the NBA is already planning it behind the scenessignal wrote Wed Apr 03, 2024 7:54 am:The NHL opened the door and the NFL bashed it in and it does not surprise me one bit that MLB is moving to LV.
What was unthinkable just about 10 to 15 years ago, is a no brainer now. Funny how making gambling mainstream changes everything.

I went to Vegas last year with my wife. Unfortunately the planned dates did not fall on a home game (We had to book before the schedule released). We were there for a week, and while I enjoyed it, a 3 day weekend is more than enough for me. Neither of us gamble, we caught some shows, went to some museums, and had some good meals. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the stadium, it's truly a love letter to the Raider brand.Sir Raider Duck, OMS » Wed Apr 03, 2024 12:22 pm
30 years in the film The Last Boy Scout, Damon Wayans' character (an NFL quarterback thrown out of the league for gambling) pointed out that the NFL was alone in all major sports in requiring an Injury Report before every game. Why do they even have the report? The report exists so the bookies can get the spread right.NoThanksSir wrote Wed Apr 03, 2024 10:39 am:I'm not obsessed with the idea of other teams coming to the city. I think the incestuous relationship developing between sports leagues and gambling companies are ruining professional sports.

They got it wrong though, baseball also has an injury report. They don't require disclosure of the injury but rather active or inactive for the game. And there are rumblings that the NFLPA is going to fight disclosure of injuries during the next CBA over HIPAA laws and I think they are going to have a case to get that removed.Sir Raider Duck, OMS wrote Wed Apr 03, 2024 12:22 pm:30 years in the film The Last Boy Scout, Damon Wayans' character (an NFL quarterback thrown out of the league for gambling) pointed out that the NFL was alone in all major sports in requiring an Injury Report before every game. In one of his books, Madden talked about accidentally leaving someone off the Injury Report, then having the player too hurt to play. He got a VERY stern warning letter from the league. And this would have been well over half a century ago.

But they totally missed out on setting it up like Pittsburgh did.signal wrote Wed Apr 03, 2024 7:54 am:The NHL opened the door and the NFL bashed it in and it does not surprise me one bit that MLB is moving to LV.

Raiders weren’t “born” in Vegas otherwise they may have shared the “golden knights” colors.BigJerk wrote Wed Apr 03, 2024 4:34 pm:But they totally missed out on setting it up like Pittsburgh did.
All the teams with the same colors.
Stupid "Golden Knights" .... Duh!

I love a lot of things about Las Vegas with the exception of gambling. I love the shows, the restaurants, the malls, things like the moving statues show in Cesar's, the Belligio water fall show and I love being able to do whatever it is you want 24/7/365. Convenience at your fingertips. Oddly enough, I don't ever see myself going to a Raiders game. I can't stand the NFL and the thought of supporting them makes me sick. I tip my hat to the fans that pay the money to see our team play. Better fans then I...raider_kin » Wed Apr 03, 2024 7:01 pm
it's a young man's playground. After I turned 40 I just didn't feel the call anymore.
